Make-up artists work on feature films and on some commercials and pop promos, working to the key make-up artist. Make-up and hair are key elements in the overall design of films or television productions, creating a look for the characters in relation to social class, time periods, and any other elements required to create the desired illusion. Make-up artists should be experienced in using a wide variety of professional make-up products. They must be able to work according to make-up designs to meet production requirements. They also work with facial hair, and may be required to affix any required small prosthetics. They oversee make-up continuity on their performer(s) during the shoot, and remove products as required. MAKE-UP PORTFOLIO Students will be required to compile a portfolio of evidence of all practical work done in class or privately. Students will be required to take good quality photos of their work for this purpose. You will be required to produce a photo book to showcase all your work. The printing of the photos and the photo book is for the cost of the student. A make-up portfolio can be an important part of a make-up artist s career. Most people would like to see what you are capable of before hiring you. By setting up a professional portfolio of your best work will showcase your talent and area of expertise. This portfolio is also used for the make-up exhibition. The following instructions below are steps in setting up your portfolio: Your make-up portfolio should be printed professionally, one that you can show to potential employers. All make-up should be done by the artist alone and may not showcase work of other make-up artists. Photos should be taken where the lighting is taken into consideration and according to the work you want to showcase. Think of the background when taking the photos as this completes the shot. Ensure that the hairstyle of the model you are using compliments what you are trying to achieve in the photo. Layout of the portfolio: Place your name on the front cover of the book (if possible). Do not use nicknames or hash tags as this is not professional. The first photo should be of your best work and also the area you would like to specialise in. Start with two basic make-up applications, also known as portrait photography. You can keep the colour palettes the same, e.g. the use of pinks and browns. This will require you to know how to apply different colours in various applications. Move on to focal areas of the lips or eyes, showcase simple designs of the lips and or eyes and later create something more avant-garde on these areas. Include smokey eyes and how to complete a smokey eye using various colours. This can be for special dinner parties or evening applications. Include skilled applications of make-up by considering various outfits. This can be day to day clothing pieces. The make-up should complement the clothing. Include bridal make-up and black and white photography and what colours are best used with black and white photography. Include any artistic work you would still like to add. NB! Your book should tell a story of the make-up you are displaying. Make sure continuity is maintained. Keep the book simple and elegant.

EXHIBITION The Make-up Exhibition takes place towards the end of the year. It is compulsory for all students to participate in this exciting event. This is an opportunity for the students to showcase their work or capabilities to potential employers. Students are responsible for the theme, make-up applications, costumes (if needed), refreshments or any other decorations required. Students are required to fund this event themselves. To make these possible, students may obtain a sponsorship letter from Prestige Academy that can be handed out to possible sponsors. The latter will make the load lighter for the students.
