Format The Museum of Art History (MOAH) will be hosting its 27 th Annual Juried All Media Art Exhibition titled The Next Step from Friday, February 3, 2012 through Sunday, March 25, 2012. The Juried Show invites local artists to submit their work for consideration for inclusion in thnnual event. A panel of judges will be brought in to review the work selected artists will have the opportunity to display their art in a public setting, as well as gain award recognition. For the second year, the City of Lancaster the Museum of Art History will explore the idea that any space can be transformed into a museum be recognized as a place of aesthetic value. Partnering with local businesses, Lancaster BLVD will be transformed into a temporary museum where, through collaboration between local artists, businesses the museum, patrons will be able to walk between each public display of art as part of a living museum space. Join us on Thursday, February 2nd, 2012, at 6 p.m., for this year s opening reception to be held at RoShamBo Lounge (located inside BEX Grill, 706 West Lancaster Blvd.). Jurors GISELA COLON COLÓN is Los Angeles-based Puerto Rican abstract painter whose work conflates the fire ice of her mixed heritage. Born to a German mother in Canada, raised in her father's native Puerto Rico, but having lived in California for the past 20 years, COLÓN's work merges the sensuality of Latin American influences with the "light space" qualities of California's ethos. COLÓN has exhibited at national international venues including the Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA), the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA)'s ARS Gallery, at galleries in Canada, Puerto Rico, New Mexico, Florida, California. COLÓN s paintings have been placed throughout the United States abroad in prominent corporate private collections such as Sony Music Entertainment, Pacific Life Corporation, Four Seasons Hotels, Intercontinental Hotels, J.W. Marriott Resorts, Genesis Luxury Group, The Borgata Hotel, Tropicana Resort Las Vegas, Gr Hyatt Malaysia, Imperial Capital Bank, Foothill Capital Corporation, Farrelly Brothers Production Co., among others. Her work has also been commissioned for site-specific installations. PETER FRANK An art critic for the Huffington Post Associate Editor for FabrikMagazine. He has served as Editor of magazine Los Angeles Visions Art Quarterly as critic for Angeleno magazine the L. A. Weekly. Frank was born in 1950 in New York, where he wrote art criticism for The Village Voice The SoHo Weekly News, moved to Los Angeles in 1988. FRANK contributes articles to numerous publications has written many catalogues for one person group exhibitions. FRANK, who recently served as Senior Curator at the Riverside Art Museum, has organized numerous theme survey shows, including Driven to Abstraction: Southern California the Non-Objective World, 1950-1988, for the Riverside Art Museum; "Mapped Art: Charts, Routes, Regions" "Line Image: The Northern Sensibility in Recent European Drawing", all for Independent Curators Inc.; Fluxus Film Video for the Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid; "Young Fluxus" for Artists' Space in New York; "To the Astonishing Horizon" for Los Angeles Visual Arts; "Southern Abstraction" for the Raleigh (NC) City Gallery of Contemporary Art; "The Theater of the Object, 1958 1972" for New York's Alternative Museum; "Visual Poetry" for the Otis/Parsons Art Institute in Los Angeles;, most notably, "19 Artists Emergent Americans," the 1981 Exxon National Exhibition mounted at the Guggenheim Museum. Selection Process The jurors will select which artwork will be exhibited by careful examination of all submitted entries. With no exceptions, Jurors have the sole responsibility for the selection of the artworks. MOAH reserves the right not to display work deemed inappropriate.
Eligibility Applicants may submit a maximum of three artworks. Works must have been completed within the last three years not previously exhibited at the Museum. Awards Modes of Submittal In Person Applicants submitting in person may bring their exhibition-ready artwork(s) to the Museum of Art History (44801 N. Sierra Highway, Lancaster CA, 93534) Friday, January 20th through Monday, January 23rd, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All necessary paperwork must be completely filled out accompany the artwork(s). All work(s) must adhere to the presentation requirements outlined below. Work(s) that are not properly prepared will not be accepted. Anyone choosing to submit their work in person must be prepared to pick up their artwork(s) January 27th-30th, between the hours of 9 a.m. 4 p.m. if not accepted into the exhibition. Applicants have the option of submitting their application materials images of their artworks by mail to the Museum of Art History (44801 N. Sierra Highway, Lancaster CA, 93534). Please limit the number of photographs to three images per submission. The preferred format for artwork images CD containing high resolution jpeg files, but photographs on paper will also be accepted. Please label all files with the artist s last name, the title of the artwork. Label any CDs or DVDs with the name of the artist. All necessary paperwork must be completely filled out accompany the submission packet along with a check for the appropriate amount payable to the City of Lancaster. Mailed applications must ARRIVE by January 23, 2012, so leave plenty of time for transit. Do not send any original artwork through the mail with the exception of video art submitted on a CD or DVD. Anyone choosing to submit by mail must be prepared to physically bring their artwork to the Museum of Art History January 26th-29th, between the hours of 9 a.m. 4 p.m., if accepted into the exhibition. Presentation of Artwork must be clean, dry, ready for exhibition. All two-dimensional works must be framed wired with D rings, Eye hooks or OZ clips wire. The hanging device, attached to two points on the back of the frame, should be strong enough to take the weight of the work without becoming stressed or warped. If using wire, ensure that it is not crimpled, creating a weakness. Artwork must be no larger than 60 inches (5 feet) in any dimension weigh less than 75 pounds. Any special display materials or equipment must be provided by the artist. The entry form must be filled out in its entirety prior to drop off. Artwork WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED by museum staff without completed paperwork. Each entry will be assigned a number as it is received. Artists are Notification encouraged to keep a record of the number(s) assigned to their artwork(s) to determine whether the entry has or has not been accepted for display in the exhibition. For mail-in applicants, numbers will be issued by phone by mail. Applicants applying in-person will receive their numbers upon payment. Insurance & Liability Each work will be treated respectfully professionally by Museum staff. The Museum of Art History the City of Lancaster or their agents representatives will not be liable for loss, theft, or damage to the artwork(s) for the duration of the exhibition. The Museum will work closely with BLVD businesses to provide adequate security for the works on display, including providing training to business owners on the proper care of artwork.
