You can also donate dog foods, medicines, and or amenities for dogs in need. Website: animalnepal.wordpress.com Adopt abused donkeys Seems unlikely, but re is a huge number of equines (donkeys, mules and horses) in Kathmandu valley, which are in real trouble. What y do: Godavari Donkey Sanctuary anor section of Animal Nepal goes to numerous brick factories and kilns, where equines are worked to bone. There y aware workers on animal cruelty as well as provide necessary treatments to animals with open wounds. Equines on verge of death are rescued, sheltered and put up for adoption. How you can help: We only give away donkeys to those who have a large area for donkeys to roam around, informs Shah. Assist in ir awareness building programmes, and of course, you can always make monetary donations as well. Founder Andrea Bringmann says, I feel that we should take care of animals as human beings, and believe that dogs should not be chained up. What y do: Every Saturday, Street Dog Care sets up a camp within Boudha complex for stray street dogs, where along with volunteers y provide vet care, vaccinations, and sterilization. They also have a newly established centre on donated land for intensive care and shelter for critical cases, where dogs remain until y are healed and later adopted; 35 dogs are currently up for adoption. 60 seconds M& S movers &shakers n I was kind of kid who ended up injuring or kids, of course unintentionally (smiles). From a lesser known Adhunik singer, to a nation-wide sensation Bhim Niraula is a Youtube success story. M& S Did you expect your song Sunday Morning Love You to be such a big hit? My recordist did say that it had a catchy tune, so I had some hopes for song to be popular. M& S What s your inspiration behind song? n QFX Cinemas celebrates it s 11th anniversary. Morning Loving goes viral I love Leo Sayer s, I love you more than I can say, and wanted to write a song along same lines. Besides, I wanted to sing an English song to give some variety to my music. M& S Who are your favourite artistes? I am a great fan of Narayan Gopal, Kishore Kumar, Mohammad Rafi, Leo Sayer, George Michael, and Robbie Williams. M& S Something people don t know about you: That I am a banker by profession, and am based in UK. I am also a professionally trained singer having taken a three-year vocal training people 6 I backpacked through Europe selling silver jewellery course at Sadhana Kala Kendra. M& S Message for your fans: I am overwhelmed with response for Sunday Morning Love You, thank you so much. Do follow my upcoming songs in my Youtube channel. post report Nakim Uddin is largely regarded as one of resurrectors of Nepali movie-watching experience. Fr o m b a c k p a c k i n g through Europe, and Australia as a young lad, t o m e d d l i n g w i t h m u l t i p l e b u s i n e s s ventures before finding s u c c e s s w i t h Q F X Cinemas, NAKIM UDDIN has had a colourful course of life. In conversation with BINIT BANA. Did you know you d make it big in movie business? Not really. In fact, I was in travel business, and was actually doing well. My partners Bhaskar Dhungana, Rajesh Siddhi and myself, accidentally stumbled into this business, and went ahead with it only because of our shared passion for films. So you re clearly delighted with where QFX Cinemas has come along n? Definitely! But, we still have a long way to go. We have more plans for QFX, one in near horizon being mall we re constructing in Patan (former Lalitpur Bishal Bazaar premise). It will be named Festive Mall, and will hopefully start operating by next Dashain. How much of a movie watcher are you now? I was a movie fan all through my youth, and still am. I make it a point to watch at least one movie per week. My favourite being The Godfar series and Scarface. WE WANT YOU! Your youthful days; give us a little glimpse. After graduating college, I wanted to travel. But why would my family freely send me money to do that, right? So, I came back to Nepal, took a bag full of silver jewellery (as it was very popular back n), and sold it along way as I backpacked through Europe, and Australia. I even used to set up my shop on streets of Sunday market in Rome to do that. It was all fun. What are you hobbies now? I still love to travel, and plan two major vacations with my family each year. Apart from that, I occasionally play golf. How do you balance your work, and your family life? Don t take home your work stress, would be my success mantra in this case. Being a Muslim, how do you observe major festivities like Dashain, and Tihar? Well, my wife is of Brahmin origin, so when it comes to celebrating festivals, my kids get to enjoy best of both worlds (smiles). What is your definition of success? I do not consider myself successful as of yet. But I do suggest young people to identify ir passion in life, and build a business around it. Success needs persistent hard work; re is no shortcut to success. (binit@kantipur.com.np) M&S is looking to build a team of enthusiastic individuals, with a BIG passion for writing. 7 M& S life Fash Forward Modern vs Ethnic which style are you? Your personality: If heavy clothing (read sarees, and lehengas) constrict you, and you d rar walk around a free, fearless woman, comfortable i n c a s u a l, s h o r t dresses, n this is your style. What s hot: One piece dresses, never go out of style; add in a little ethnic touch to it, and you re festiveready. In this dress, I have played with a western silhouette, and have thrown in traditional motifs through embroidery, and bright hues for a Tihar-tastic fusion outfit. What s not: Mini-skirts and mini-frocks are a big no-no during festivals. I mean, come on, you ve got to keep it a little decent. Dark shades aren t too interesting eir. n Spotted! Malina Joshi sports a festiveinspired Tenzin Bhutia design at her Miss Asia Pacific pageant. MODERN n Dress by Tenzin Tseten Bhutia Creation Your personality: If you love religious f e s t i v a l s, a n d d e l i g h t i n traditional values of an attire, n this is your style. Religious festivities and fashion may not always gel, but re is no reason why it shouldn t. Two of our favourite designers show how you can go about your family festive affairs, with your fashionista spirit intact. W h a t s h o t : Lehenga- choli is hot this season; especially hot, as it comes in comes in myriads of designs including those with flavours of two o t h e r p o p u l a r traditional attires kurthas, and sarees interspersed in it. Today s lehenga-choli is lightweight, aestically designed, with bold colours (neon n Dress by Swornim s Collection is in) to mirror festive fever. I especially love this double layered lehenga with attached shawl from my collection. What s not: Revealing too much of your skin (read backless blouses, over-exposed midriffs) is not recommended during festivals. n Spotted! A model wears a kurtha-lehenga fusion attire by Swornim Rai at a fashion show. ETHNIC Smart Up Fail-proof party tricks During get-togers this festive season why not make a little cash, or spread a little laughter, with some fun party tricks. Things needed Step 1 Step 2 Party Trick #1 Bet m you ll lift a glass without touching it Carefully light a match, and place into glass. Then put balloon on top of glass. The match will burn up oxygen inside, sucking in balloon, enabling you to lift glass without direct contact. Watch out: It s highly likely that heat from burning matchstick will burst balloon. So, get your timing right. Practice makes perfect. Party Trick #2 Bet that you ll show m card y picked Shuffle a deck of cards. The KEY here is to remember card on bottom before asking ors to pick a card. Ask a person to pick a card from deck. After y take a look at it, ask m to place it back on top of deck. Cut deck in two sections, and place bottom half on top half. This will align ir chosen card right next (technically on bottom) to card you ve taken a Step 3 peak at. Announce that you are now going to locate chosen card, and slowly start to place cards on table. Pretend that you re guessing. Look for bottom card as soon as you see it, know that next one is your audience chosen card. Good Food No need for guilty pleasures Tihar may be festival of lights, but it is unofficially festival of sweets. Don t dread calories, just mind what you eat. The scale tippers Rasbari: Not much of a surprise, a delightful ball of this syrup drowned sweet contains around 193 calories. Kanpuri Laddu: It may not look like it, but this sweet carries a big punch, with around 185 calories per piece, it is in top of sweets pile. Jeri: Surprisingly, se do not pack that big of a sugary punch. A relatively decent sized piece contains around 150 calories. Peda: One in lower scale of list, a single piece contains around 82 calories. Your escape: Diet desserts If you are planning on avoiding sug ary treats altoger, do it by all means. But what s Tihar without sweet delicacies to savour, eh? Go for sugar-free sweets. It s been a decade since we first came out with sugar-free treats for our customers, says S.M Agrawal of Aagan Sweets, T ripureshwor. We use sugar-free powder to make those varieties, he adds. post report Kalakand, Kaju Barfi, and Kanpuri Laddu are three highest selling sweet varieties at Aagan during festive season.
