What is Fondazione CRT? Fondazione CRT originated from Cassa di Risparmio di Torino in 1991, inheriting its name as well as its philanthropic mission. The institution was set up in the context of the Italian banking sector transformation of the early 90s, when the legislator started the privatization process of public savings banks and credit institutions, thus separating credit from philanthropic activities the two souls of the economic activity of old public credit institutions. Fondazione CRT is a private, non-profit organisation with full statutory and management autonomy. Its projects and resources target various sectors: from the preservation and promotion of the artistic heritage and cultural activities to scientific research; from education and training to health care and assistance for vulnerable social groups; from civil protection and environmental safeguards to innovation in local institutions and support of economic development. Despite being rooted in its traditional area of intervention which covers Piedmont and the Aosta Valley - Fondazione CRT also looks beyond its historical boundaries at other national and international non-profit models and experiences. Operating processes Over more than twenty years, Fondazione CRT has diversified and perfected its way of operating, so as to better meet the needs of the community. At the beginning of its work in the 90s, it funded large and small projects which originated from its area of intervention. In the years 2000s, it started developing its own projects to promote and support the excellencies of north-western Italy. In recent years, Fondazione CRT has also embraced venture philanthropy, an innovative approach which aims at strengthening the supported initiatives, turning them into mature and autonomous projects. Institutional activities The activities of Fondazione CRT can be grouped into three macro areas, where it operates through in-house projects and ad-hoc operating tools. ARTS AND CULTURE RESEARCH AND EDUCATION WELFARE AND ENVIRONMENT Each area has a specific graphic identity, so that the individual funded activities can be more easily identified.

ARTS AND CULTURE In this area the most important one in the history of Fondazione CRT - many resources have been devoted to financing the most relevant local institutions. The vast majority of prestigious institutions in Piedmont and the Aosta Valley benefit from the support of Fondazione CRT. The requests for contributions in the sectors of music, theatre, restorations and temporary exhibitions are regulated by calls for proposals, issued every year: Not&Sipari supports music and choir initiatives and events with local relevance in Piedmont and the Aosta Valley, with the goal of promoting live performances; Restauri Cantieri Diffusi is devoted to the restoration of the historical-artistic heritage of Piedmont and the Aosta Valley, with the funding of projects to restore protected works and buildings with proven artistic value and relevance; In the area of arts and culture, a prominent role is played by Fondazione per l Arte Moderna e Contemporanea - CRT, which since 2000 enriches the permanent collections of GAM (Galleria Civica d Arte Moderna di Torino) and the Rivoli Castle, Museum of Contemporary Art through the acquisition of works of art selected by a prestigious International Scientific Committee. In recent years, Fondazione per l Arte has also supported the promotion and development of contemporary art in Turin and Piedmont by supporting training, exhibition, educational and communication activities. Esponente supports the activities or rearrangement of existing museums, promotes the organization of exhibitions and awards in the fields of visual arts and historical-cultural heritage and the related publishing activities.

RESEARCH AND EDUCATION This sector includes funding and projects devoted to education, training, scientific and technological research. The main help given to the best young people from Piedmont and the Aosta Valley comes from the different components of project Master dei Talenti. The call for proposals Master dei Talenti Neolaureati offers real work opportunities and internships in all five continents to the best graduates from the two regions; the call for proposals Master dei Talenti Neodiplomati offers threemonth internships all over the world to the students from secondary schools. The best students with a Conservatory diploma obtain specialization scholarships through Master dei Talenti Musicali, which over the years has also allowed the creation of the orchestra which goes by the same name. Finally, Talenti per l Impresa offers the managerial skills and tools to launch entrepreneurial projects or manage them at best. Primary and secondary schools have the opportunity to widen their educational offer with the courses and indepth classes of project Diderot, which has involved over 280,000 students to date. Research in Turin and Piedmont receives constant support from Fondazione CRT: all main local research institutes, as well as universities in Piedmont, receive contributions for research or structural implementation projects. Finally, pure research and technological transfer are the focus of the Lagrange project, which pays particular attention to complexity sciences. Today, the activities of Fondazione Fondo Ricerca e Talenti deserve special attention. The fund was created in 2012, inspired by the experience gathered by the best American universities. The goal is to provide the University of Turin through various fundraising activities with financial assets which can grow over time.

WELFARE AND ENVIRONMENT This sector includes projects and activities to support volunteer work for the weakest social groups, public health, civil protection, environmental protection and the development of the reference regions. In the area of social inclusion and accessibility, VivoMeglio supports actions aimed at improving the quality of life of the disabled. The effort in the health emergency sector is expressed by project Missione Soccorso. Through a call for proposals process, it gives first aid ambulances to emergency associations which work with the regional emergency medical service 118. Fondazione CRT supports the Civil Protection department and environmental protection with the Safety Vehicle project, which gives resources to purchase suitable vehicles for the thorough monitoring of the territory. Protezione Civile per i piccoli comuni promotes the improvement of the organization and equipment of Civil Protection units in municipalities with less than 5,000 inhabitants. Over the years, ad hoc non-profit bodies devoted to specific problems have been created and operated. Associazione Ulaop Onlus organises activities to help pre-school children in the City of Turin by providing a wide range of activities in the social, welfare, educational, teaching, cultural and recreational areas, offered directly to children and their families. Fondazione Anti Usura CRT La Scialuppa Onlus has been active since 1998 in the prevention of usury, gradually widening its area of intervention from the City of Turin to all the Provinces in Piedmont and the Aosta Valley. La Scialuppa can act as a guarantor with the banks it has an arrangement with, so that these can offer loans at preferential interest rates. Associazione Donare per Crescere Insieme CRT Onlus promotes the mechanisms of fundraising among private individuals, encouraging their direct involvement. In particular, it supports projects for the development of social solidarity.

Fondazione Sviluppo e Crescita CRT Fondazione Sviluppo e Crescita CRT was created to work in the social field using the methods of venture philanthropy. Its goals are: the transfer of skills, the development of new networks, the increase of project sustainability and the promotion of innovation. Fondazione Sviluppo e Crescita works through investment tools, ranging from the real estate sector to that of seed and venture capital, with the goal of developing the local area. The general areas of intervention are: Social & Human Purpose medium-long term investments in real estate, carried out through a closed real estate fund with social goals; Social Housing actions aimed at the creation or renovation of buildings for social groups which are socially and economically weak. The main social housing project (carried out through Ivrea 24 Abitare Sostenibile S.p.A) is the most important social hotel in Italy, and is at the core of the urban and social development of a whole neighbourhood in Turin; Environment and local development - the most important actions in this area focus on the quality of life, energy, and services offered to citizens. They include ad hoc initiatives (such as the purchase of vehicles for GTT) or the creation or underwriting of company holdings (for example, Orione & JStone, Pegaso, Digital Investments SCA, Sicar, Expo Piemonte); Development of the local business fabric - actions to promote technological transfer, the growth of SMEs and the development of managerial skills. Of great strategic interest is the role to be played by the OGR-CRT co., which was formed to manage the renovation and redevelopment of the Officine Grandi Riparazioni, an industrial and historical monument situated in the heart of Turin. Fondazione CRT now intends to open this to the public and put it to the service of contemporary creativity in its many forms.

International activities and projects Although it is rooted in the geographical scope of intervention defined by its statute, Fondazione CRT looks beyond its historical boundaries and works at an international level too. The Turin Foundation belongs to the European coordinating institutions in the field of philanthropy the European Foundation Centre and the European Venture Philanthropy Association and to the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAoC). Fondazione CRT is interested in networks in the field of philanthropy just as it is interested in European projects. It is leading partner of Caravan. Artists on the Road, within the framework of the Culture Programme; it is partner of project Creative Companies in Alpine Space, which is related to the Alpine Space Programme, and is member of the Social Innovation Ambassador Network within the larger Building a European Network of Incubators for Social Innovation project, which is part of the Seventh Framework Programme. Connect with us www.fondazionecrt.it Facebook Twitter The attention given to internationalization - which was already a clear aspect in some of the Fondazione s consolidated projects - stems from the intention to make local non-profit organizations stronger, thanks to contacts with Europe and the international level, and to attract new projects and economic resources to Piedmont.
