Faddish styles and outrageous multicolored hair are NOT authorized 1-8
Hairpieces may be worn only for cosmetic reasons to cover natural baldness or physical disfigurement 1-9
Keep sideburns neatly trimmed and tailored in the same manner as the haircut. They shall: Sideburns (a) Not extend below a point level with the middle of the ear. (b) Be of even width (not flared). (c) End with a clean shaven horizontal line. 1-10
Mustaches...will be kept neatly and closely trimmed. No portion of the mustache shall extend below the line of the upper lip 1-11
Handlebar mustaches, goatees, beards, or eccentricities are not permitted. 1-12
Beards A beard may only be worn for health reasons when authorized by the commanding officer on the advice of a medical officer. 1-13
Hair Standards for Women When wearing collared uniforms, the hair may touch, but not fall below a horizontal line level with the lower edge of the back of the collar. 1-14

Hair Ornaments A maximum of 2 small barrettes, combs, or clips similar to hair color may be used. Fabric elastics (scrunchies) and colored rubber bands/pins are not authorized. 1-16
For men, Fingernails shall not exceed the "meat" of the fingertips. 1-17
For women, Fingernails shall not exceed 1/4 inch beyond the "meat" of the fingertip
Jewelry While in uniform, only one necklace may be worn and must NOT be visible. 1-19
Wristwatches and Bracelets While in uniform, only one of each may be worn. 1-20
Earrings for Men Not authorized: 1 When in uniform 2 In civilian attire when in a duty status aboard any ship, aircraft, any military vehicle, or other place under military jurisdiction. 3 While participating in any organized military recreational activities. 4 When prohibited by prescribing authority while in foreign countries. 1-21
Earrings for Women One earring per ear (centered on the earlobe) may be worn with any uniform Silver 4-6mm ball (approximately 1/8-1/4 ), plain with brushed matte or shiny finish, screw-on or with posts. 1-22
Body Piercing is NOT authorized: (a) When in uniform. (b) When in civilian attire when on duty, aboard a ship, craft, aircraft or in a military vehicle. (c) Within any base or other place under military jurisdiction. (d) While participating in any organized military recreational activities. 1-23
Rings For men and women while in uniform, only one ring per hand is authorized, plus a wedding ring or engagement/wedding ring set. They are NOT authorized for wear 1-24 on thumbs.
Cosmetics Cosmetics (women only) if worn, shall be applied in good taste so that colors blend with natural skin tone and enhance natural features. 1-25
Dinner Dress Blue (1) Blue jumper or blue coat and skirt with miniature medals. (2) White hat or combination cap. (3) Outer garments: peacoat or all-weather coat. (4) Occasion for wear: official functions where civilians wear a black tie or evening gown. This is a prescribable winter uniform. 1-26
Dinner Dress White (1) White jumper with miniature medals. Females may wear skirt or slacks. (2) White hat or combination cap. (3) Outer garments: all-weather coat. (4) Occasion for wear: official functions where civilians wear a black tie or evening gown. This is a prescribable summer uniform. 1-27
Full Dress Blue (1) Blue jumper or blue coat and skirt or slacks with large medals and ribbons. (2) White hat or combination cap. (3) Outer garments: peacoat or all-weather coat. (4) Occasion for wear: change of command, official visits, ceremonies, and solemn occasions. 1-28
Full Dress White (1) White jumper with large medals and ribbons. Females may wear skirt or slacks. (2) White hat or combination cap. (3) Outer garments: all-weather coat. (4) Occasion for wear: change of command, official visits, ceremonies, and solemn occasions. 1-29
Service Dress Blue (1) Blue jumper or blue coat and skirt or slacks with ribbons. (2) White hat, combination cap, or beret. Females may wear the garrison cap only when wearing the black V neck sweater in place of the blue coat.. (3) Outer garments: peacoat or all-weather coat. (a) Men may wear the pullover jersey under the blue jumper. (b) Women may wear the black V neck sweater or cardigan in place of the blue coat. 1-30
Service Dress White (1) White jumper with ribbons. Females may wear skirt or slacks. (2) White hat, combination cap, or beret. (3) Outer garments: peacoat or allweather coat. (4) Occasion for wear: in summer when dinner dress and full dress uniforms are NOT prescribed and civilian dress is coat and tie. 1-31
Winter Blue (1) Blue shirt, trousers or slacks/skirt, tie, and ribbons. (2) White hat, combination cap, garrison cap or beret. (3) Outer garments: peacoat, allweather coat, windbreaker (Eisenhower jacket), black V neck sweater or cardigan. (4) Occasion for wear: in winter when prescribed as the uniform of the day for: (a) Office work. (b) Watchstanding. (c) Liberty. (d) Business ashore. 1-32
Summer White (1) White shirt, trousers or slacks/ skirt (cotton or Certified Navy Twill [CNT]) with ribbons. (2) White hat, combination cap, or beret. (3) Outer garments: peacoat, all-weather coat, windbreaker (Eisenhower jacket), black V neck sweater or cardigan. (4) Occasion for wear: in summer when prescribed as the uniform of the day for: (a) Office work. (b) Watchstanding. (c) Liberty. (d) Business ashore. 1-33
Winter Working Blue (1) Blue shirt, trousers or slacks/skirt, without tie, and ribbons. (2) White hat, combination cap, garrison cap or beret. (3) Outer garments: peacoat, allweather coat, windbreaker (Eisenhower jacket), black V neck sweater or cardigan. (4) Occasion for wear: when other uniforms would be unsafe or become unduly soiled. 1-34
Utilities (1) Blue trousers or slacks and blue shirt (short or long sleeve). (2) Ball cap. (3) Outer garments: peacoat, all-weather coat, working jacket, pullover sweater, black V neck sweater or cardigan. 1-35
