Please note that due to time restrictions and in an effort to reduce lost clothing, Primary students (JK to Grade 3) will wear their Phys. Ed. uniform to school on alternating days and will not change for Physical Education. A schedule outlining when students are expected to wear the Phys. General Appearance For the same reason that we have a uniform, we expect that students will make appropriate choices in other aspects of personal appearance. In these matters, we expect the cooperation and support of parents. Decisions regarding appropriateness of a student s uniform and general appearance will be made by the Headmaster, Assistant Head of School, Academics, the Director of the Senior and Middle Schools and the Director of the Junior School. Hair Hair must be of a natural colour for all students Hair accessories, if worn by girls, must be solid in colour (only school colours; navy and white permitted). The Hilltop Shop offers a line of appropriate hair accessories. Boys must keep their hair short and neatly trimmed (hair length should not touch the shirt collar) Boys must be clean shaven without beards, moustaches or goatees Extreme hairstyles are not permitted: e.g. Mohawk, dreadlock or unnatural coloured hair Cosmetics, Jewellery and other Accessories Girls may not wear excessive cosmetics. The appearance should be natural looking. Earrings and other jewellery should be in good taste and not extreme or excessive in nature. Examples of suitable earrings would be studs or small hoop earrings. Students may be asked to remove any jewellery that is deemed to be inappropriate. Facial, tongue or body piercing of any kind are discouraged and students may be asked to remove piercings that are deemed to be inappropriate. For safety, students must remove all jewellery for Physical Education classes, sports games and team practices Handbags, oversize belt buckles are not permitted. Tattoos are not permitted (must be covered at all times). Clothing Special event sweatshirts (hoodies) may be worn on dress down days only or by special permission from the Assistant Head of School (examples of this include Grad Hoodies, Sport Championship/Team Hoodies) Camisoles and undershirts must be tucked into skirts or pants and must be plain white or skin tone Pants, shorts and skirts must be properly hemmed Pants must be worn at the waist Skirts are not to be rolled and must be kept at the appropriate length of no shorter than 4cm above the knee Top button of the dress shirt must be buttoned Girls are not permitted to wear sheer nylon pantyhose or knee-highs All clothing including socks and tights must be kept in good repair Polo shirts are never to be worn with a tie or the school blazer. The uniform should be clean, pressed and properly fitting at all times The Hilltop Shop sells replacement buttons for all pieces of the uniform as well as offering alteration, repair and dry cleaning services for the uniform if needed.
