Inhalation: This product is a known carcinogen and must not be inhaled. Skin Contact: Will cause allergic skin reaction. Causes severe skin burns. Prolonged and repeated contact will result in skin sensitisation. Eye Contact: This product is corrosive to eyes. It will cause severe pain, and corrosion of the eye and surrounding facial tissues. Unless exposure is quickly treated, permanent blindness and facial scarring is likely. Ingestion: Severe abdominal pain, unconsciousness, collapse temporary or permanent visual impairment and death. The number is 0800 764 766 in New Zealand and is available at all times. Have this MSDS with you when you call. FOR ANY OTHER COUNTRY CONTACT YOUR OWN POISONS INFORMATION CENTRE OR OBTAIN INFORMATION FROM YOUR HOSPITAL. Inhalation: If inhalation occurs obtain urgent medical attention immediately. Remove source of contamination or move victim to fresh air. Skin Contact: Avoid direct contact. Obtain medical attention immediately. Remove contaminated clothing. Flush immediately with luke warm water for 20 minutes. Eye Contact: Immediately flush the contaminated eye(s) with lukewarm, gently flowing water for 20 minutes or until the product is removed, while holding the eyelid(s) open. Take care not to rinse contaminated water into the unaffected eye or onto the face. Obtain medical attention immediately. Take special care if exposed person is wearing contact lenses. If vomiting occurs place victim face downwards with head turned to the side and lower than the hips to prevent vomit entering the lungs. IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION IS REQUIRED Antidote: There are no antidotes for this product Section 5 Fire Fighting Measures Fire and Explosion Hazards: The major hazard in fires is usually inhalation of heated and toxic or oxygen deficient (or both), fire gases. This product is classified as a 3.1C Medium Flammable Hazard. Vapours from this product are heavier than air and may accumulate in sumps, pits and other low-lying spaces, forming potentially explosive mixtures. They may also flash back considerable distances. Clear the area. Shut off all possible sources of ignition if safe to do so. Wear Personal Protective Equipment to prevent skin, eye & respiratory contact. Avoid breathing vapours. Prevent spillage from spreading or entering soil, waterways or drain. If this occurs contact your Regional Authority & City Council. Neutralise with diluted ammonia. Contain spill with inert absorbent material eg sand, earth or vermiculite if safe to do so. Clean Up-Method: Work up wind or increase ventilation. Collect and seal in properly labelled containers or drums for disposal. If contamination of crops, sewers or waterways has occurred advise local Emergency Services. Disposal: Mop up and collect recoverable material into labelled containers for recycling or salvage. Recycle containers wherever possible. This material may be suitable for approved landfill. Dispose of only in accord with all Regulations. Precautions: Wear Personal Protective Equipment to prevent skin and eye contamination and the inhalation of vapour. Eliminate Ignition Sources. Work up wind or increase ventilation. Section 7: Handling & Storage Handling: Keep exposure of this product to a minimum, and minimise the quantities kept in work areas. Check Section 8 of this MSDS for details of Personal Protective measures and ensure that those measures are followed. The measures detailed below under "Storage" should be followed during handling in order to minimise risks to persons using the product in the workplace. Avoid breathing vapours, mists & aerosols. Avoid skin & eye contact. Avoid contact or contamination of product with incompatible materials listed in Section 10. Storage: Store packages of this product in a cool place. Make sure that containers of this product are kept tightly closed. Keep containers of this product in a well- ventilated area. Make sure that the product does not come into contact with substances listed under "Incompatibilities" in Section 10. Keep away from heat sparks and flames. Do not store below 1 C or above 40 C. Page 5 of 7 Eye Protection: Protective glasses or goggles must be worn when this product is being used. Failure to protect your eyes may lead to severe harm to them or to general health. Emergency eye wash facilities must also be available in an area close to where this product is being used. Skin Protection: Avoid skin contact by wearing impervious elbow length gloves of either PVC, nitrile or neoprene rubber (nitrile is recommended) overalls, hair covering, apron and face shield. Respirator: Respirators must be worn at all times when using this product with Airfed Respirators used when Workplace Exposure Standards are exceeded. When Workplace Exposure Standards are approached use a full face piece respirator with Formaldehyde cartridge. If using Formaldehyde cartridges, ensure that all cartridges are suitable for the amount of contamination involved and in good working order. All respirators must be to NIOSH or EU Approved Standards and suitable for Formaldehyde. Eye Baths & Eyewash Stations: Eyebaths and/or Eyewash Stations and Safety Deluge Showers must be provided and located near to where this product is being used.
