Egypt news Economic World Bank reveals details on Egypt's $3 bn loan The World Bank revealed Saturday details of the US$3 billion loan to the Egyptian government which entail reducing the government s wages bill, energy subsidies, while raising tax revenue and electricity prices. The World Bank agreed last December to grant Egypt the loan to be disbursed over three annual loans worth $1 billion each in the next three years, to support the Egyptian state's general budget and improve Egypt s financial situation. Egypt Year in Review 2015 The year 2015 brought welcome stabilization and recovery to Egypt, after a difficult post-revolution period marked by continued upheaval and sluggish growth. The first part of the year saw a range of encouraging developments, including the completion of the strategically vital Suez Canal expansion, the commitment of more than $35bn in planned foreign investments, closer economic ties with Gulf allies and promising activity in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector. The Egyptian economy is expected to continue growing at a steady pace in the coming months, with key sectors, such as manufacturing and ICT, looking particularly promising. Egypt central bank keeps main interest rates unchanged Egypt's central bank kept benchmark interest rates unchanged on Thursday, it said in a statement. The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) kept the overnight deposit rate at 9.25 percent and the overnight lending rate at 10.25 percent. Mr. Tarek Amer CBE CEO photo below. The commission, which is co-chaired by the Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry Tarek Kabil and his counterpart Manturov, signed a memorandum of mutual understanding on establishing a Russian industrial zone in the context of the Suez Canal development project in Egypt.

Some have already been launched and others are still under review, he said at a joint news conference with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-sisi in Cairo. Xi arrived in Egypt on Wednesday. At a ceremony in Cairo, Chinese and Egyptian officials signed 21 deals that could lead to a major increase in Chinese investment in the most populous Arab country "My visit to Egypt is to cement and deepen the China- Egypt relationship in an all-round way and advance practical cooperation between our two nations for new achievement," Xi said, according to China s official news agency Xinhua. "China and Egypt are true friends and good brothers." "China supports Egypt's efforts to maintain stability, develop the economy and improve livelihoods, and supports Egypt to play an even greater role in international and regional affairs, according to Reuters. By Yahoo. In November, consumer prices fell 0.3% over the previous month, which contrasted the 2.2% increase recorded in October. According to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, the decrease was mainly driven by lower prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages. Inflation climbed to 11.1% in November, up from October s 9.7%. A shortage of foreign currency is driving up the cost of imported goods, including food. Meanwhile, annual average inflation also rose, from 10.1% in October to 10.3% in November. Core inflation, which excludes volatile items such as fresh fruit and vegetables, rose 7.5% over the same month last year, which was higher than the 6.3% increase tallied in October. Focus-Economics Consensus Forecast participants expect inflation to average 9.6% in calendar year 2016, which is unchanged from last month s projection. For calendar year 2017, the panel sees average inflation decreasing to 9.4%. Author: Carl Kelly, Economist
