AREAS OF EVALUATION and TIMING: The practical examination is composed of four timed sections. Failure to complete any section within the time period allotted may result in failure of that section. Exam time 3 hours 5 minutes. 1. General Trade Practices Evaluated throughout 2. Full Facial including Skin Analysis and Complete Massage - 75 minutes 3. Evening Make-up - 30 minutes 4. Waxing: Under arm and one leg -20 minutes 5. Nail Care: French Manicure (1 Hand) and Pedicure with Red Polish (1 Foot)- 60 minutes Candidates must demonstrate the following: 1. Infection, Protection & Control Trade Practices: 2. Full Facial including Skin Analysis and Complete Massage: 3. Evening Make- up: Models MUST be free from permanent makeup, tattoos and jewelry 4. Waxing - Under Arm and One Leg (including knee): 5. Nail Care French Manicure (1 Hand) & Pedicure with Red Polish (1 Foot): Models must come with polish on one hand or foot (to demonstrate polish removal) Professional grooming (hair, make-up, clothing and shoes); professionalism; communication. Proper hygienic and sanitation procedures throughout the entire exam. Sanitary station set up; proper draping procedures; hygienic application procedures; eye and lip make up removal; cleansing; rinsing; toning; skin analysis with completion of a consultation sheet; eye brow shaping (measuring/ tweezing); application & removal of exfoliant; application of hot towels; demonstration of one manual extraction; facial massage: application and removal of massage cream, four basic cosmetic massage movements (effleurage/petrissage/tapotement/friction on the face/neck/decollete/shoulders); application and removal of facial mask (extending from the forehead down to the collar bone - no gel masks are allowed); application of moisturizer. Sanitary station set up; hygienic application procedures; demonstrate application and color match of foundation, powder and blush (including contouring for evening); designing of eyes: eyebrows, eyeshadow (combination of a minimum of 3 colors), eyeliner and mascara; designing of lips: application and color match of lip liner and lipstick. Candidates must demonstrate the sharpening of pencils (brow/shadow/liner/lip). Evening make-up result must complement the model. Sanitary station set up; hygienic application and removal procedures; preparation of the skin before waxing; testing of wax temperature; correct application of wax; correct wax removal techniques; removal of wax residue; application of post-wax soothing lotion; final results. Model s hair should be visible at least ¼ of an inch. Sanitary station set up; hygienic application procedures; removal of polish (hand or foot) a) French Manicure on one hand: demonstrate proper filing and shaping techniques; cuticle care: cuticle remover, soaking, loosening, trimming; massage: fingertips to elbow with two or more cosmetic massage movements; proper polish techniques: application of base coat, French style polish and top coat. b) Pedicure with Red Polish on one foot: demonstrate soaking, application and removal of scrub, callous removal; proper filing and shaping techniques; cuticle care: cuticle remover, loosening, trimming; massage: toes to knee with two or more cosmetic massage movements; proper polish techniques: application of base coat, red polish and top coat. All candidates must be dressed in clean and professional spa attire / school uniform with any logos covered (no jewelry, no perfume, appropriate spa footwear). SUPPLIES and EQUIPMENT: Candidates are required to appear at the practical examination with their own professional equipment and supplies. Clean and sanitized equipment MUST be used; along with PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS. Failure

to do so will result in automatic disqualification from exam. All candidates must display equipment on a covered countertop. Borrowing is strictly prohibited and will result in an automatic failure of the candidate(s) exam. Supplies and Equipment - CHECKLIST Facial: cleanser toner exfoliant (scrub or enzyme) massage cream or oil cotton pads alcohol or antiseptic lotion eyebrow brush tweezers visible facial mask mask brush moisturizer facial tissue hand sanitizer gloves for extraction (latex/ vinyl) an appropriate (strapless) gown for the model 4-6 hand towels a clean headband and/or towel to cover model's head two single-size bed sheets (white only) of sufficient length to cover a facial bed/chair and drape the model Nail Care gloves for pedicure liquid soap for soaking hand & foot sanitizer supply tray (for cosmetics) orangewood sticks nail files cuticle nippers cuticle remover nail polish remover massage cream or oil foot paddle foot soaking tub cotton balls white sanitized towels finger bowl small garbage bag foot scrub tissue for toe separators container for sterile implements container for soiled implements No metal files or metal cuticle pushers are allowed! nail polish: base coat, flat dark red, top coat, and French white/pink duo Make-up foundation powder blush contouring powder/cream lip brush eyeliner lip liner lip color makeup brushes disposable mascara wands eyebrow color (pencil or powder) mascara eyeshadow (minimum of 3 colors) disposable makeup sponges OR foundation brush Candidates must show the examiner the sharpening of any pencils (eye/shadow/brow/ lip) on a Kleenex. Waxing cleansing pads, gauze, and/or cotton pads pre-wax preparation(oil, cream, or powder) wood spatulas (multiple) soft liquid wax tweezers paper bed roll (just enough to cover bed) wax pot & extension cord are a MUST pre-wax skin sanitizer post-wax skin soother scissors gloves (latex or vinyl) cotton or muslin wax strips

No microwave is available at the exam premises. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS 1. Each candidate must appear with his or her candidate examination number at the location of the examination. Candidates must have a current photo ID and MUST provide a clear photocopy of ID. 2. Upon commencement of the examination candidates must not communicate in any way with one another. Failure to comply with this rule may result in disqualification. 3. Smoking is prohibited on the premises where the examination is conducted, including the washrooms and the main entrance of the examination room. 4. Escorts and friends of candidates are not permitted on the premises in which the examination is taking place. 5. In the event of an illness or injury, candidates must submit a medical certificate to the Association attesting to the nature and duration of the medical conditions or forfeit all exam fees which have been paid. 6. Examiners are not permitted to respond to any inquiries by candidates regarding the results of the exam. Exam results will be sent by mail 3 weeks after the exam. No exam results will be given over the telephone. 7. No refunds will be provided for those failing to appear for examination. Subject to medical certificate as in #5. 8. If candidates require breaks for medical reasons, please notify the examiners present before the commencement of the exam. 9. Absolutely, NO gum chewing throughout the entire exam and NO cell phones and pagers. THE PRACTICAL EXAMINATION (3 Hours and 5 Minutes): Any interpretation of these rules and regulations is solely the decision of the Examiner. Examiners may, at their discretion, require additional demonstration by the candidate in order to prove competence. Candidates must be prepared to answer oral questions in this section. 1. Candidates must register with one female model and a fully completed model waiver form, which will be attached to the confirmation letter, at the location of the practical examination. Candidate numbers will be supplied with final exam notification. 2. Candidates who converse or otherwise communicate with their models or with other candidates may be disqualified. In cases of disqualification candidates will be required to appear for examination at a later date. 3. Candidates must remain at their assigned work stations until they obtain permission to move. Failure to do so may result in disqualification.

4. Proper sanitary practices must be observed throughout the period of examination. Candidates are required to appear with their own professional equipment and supplies per these instructions. Borrowing is strictly prohibited. 5. Candidates will present themselves with professional, cleaned and pressed attire with no marks or identification. Closed toe shoes are mandatory. Failure to conform with the dress code may result in disqualification. Lab coats as outerwear are acceptable. Good grooming with proper attention to personal hygiene, particularly regarding the hair, face and hands, is mandatory. Shoulder length or longer hair must be fixed off the face, and jewelry that might interfere with any aspect of the examination must be removed. Candidates must have short nails (no free edge) with no colored polish. No artificial nails. 6. Candidates must furnish one female model only whose skin is free from infection, inflammations, contagious disease or any other medical condition which would be an impediment to, or aggravated by, the examination. That model: must be free from infections, inflammations or other medical conditions, must be free from permanent makeup and all jewelry, must be free from artificial nail products, must possess fingernails with a length not less than 1/4 inch over the free edge to permit reshaping and cuticles whose condition is such as to permit demonstrations of proper cuticle care, must be either 19 years of age or older or possess written consent by a parent or guardian. must have polish on nails of one hand or foot must have full make- up on Candidates must complete the practical examination with a minimum of 70% to successfully pass the practical examination. THEORY EXAMINATION - ONLINE 120 multiple choice questions to be completed in one (1) hour. Complete prior to practical examination. BeautyCouncil theory examination is designed to evaluate and ensure candidates have the broad spectrum of knowledge required to serve the public. The theory examination is in a multiple choice format with 120 questions. Candidates must correctly answer at least 70% of the questions to successfully pass the theory examination. If a candidate fails the examination, he/she must apply to retake the exam. *YOU WILL NEED TO PROVIDE A SMARTPHONE, TABLET OR LAB TOP TO COMPLETE* 1. Each candidate will be provided with a login link 7 days prior to practical exam to access theory exam. 2. 65 minutes to complete. 3. Timed exam. 4. Results will be given immediately upon completion of theory exam. Candidates must receive the minimum of 70% to obtain BeautyCouncil Certification
