Gel Nails (Light-Cured) D Apply nail forms to all nails; refer to procedure in this chapter, page 362 or nail tips from chapter 8, page 346 CAUTION: Use only disposable nail forms. Reusable forms are made of metal or plastic, which cannot be used under UV light. G Use a larger amount of gel and apply to zone 1, building the free edge. Directions A Use cotton-wrapped manicure stick or pusher and gently push back cuticles. Apply a nail antiseptic to the natural nails; spray on or wipe over nail with nail wipe. E Apply a base coat of gel acrylic to entire nail, using a small amount of gel. H Cure gel under UV light source. Repeat Steps G and H on thumbs following manufacturer s instructions. B Shape free edge of natural nails and buff vertically following grain of nail to remove shine or natural oils for adhesion. C Apply gel primer to natural nails to enhance adhesion. NOTE: Not all gel systems require a gel primer; follow manufacturer s directions. F Cure (harden) gel under UV light source. Repeat Steps E and F on thumbs following manufacturer s instructions. I Apply gel over entire nail, building layers to form the thickness of a natural nail. Cure nails under UV light and repeat on thumbs. Follow manufacturer s directions on building gel product. Cure nails under UV light and repeat on thumbs. Follow manufacturer s directions on building gel product. N Continue smoothing over surface of nails with a medium or fine abrasive. When completed, view all sides of nails for proper proportion. Q Massage cuticle cream or oil into skin surrounding nails.
