Designs by Jude Walking Suit For 17 Vinyl Evangeline Notions and Fabric Suit: Satins, lightweight suiting, crepes Lining: Batiste, china silk Hat: Fun Foam Notions: 12 tiny button, 10 snap sets, 1/8 ribbon for hat tie, 1/8 elastic, ¾ inch trim, matching thread, hot glue gun General Cutting and Marking Directions 1. Lay out all pieces following grain lines on pattern. Grain lines are marked with a straight line with an arrow on each end. Cut the number indicated on the pattern. 2. Cut notches no deeper than 1/8 or use disappearing marker. Seam allowances are ¼ unless otherwise noted on the pattern or in the instructions. 3. In un-lined garments, finish seams with an overlock or zig zag stitch. 4. You will get the most professional results by following a couple of recommendations. Press the garment as you work through each step. Press seams open where applicable. Fit gowns and skirts to the doll and give a final pressing with a clothes steamer. Sewing Directions Suit Jacket RST = Right Sides Together WST = Wrong Sides Together 1. RST, sew center back seam. Press seam open. 2. Sew jacket side back sections to jacket back. Press seams open. 3. RST sew jacket side front sections to jacket front sections. Clip seams, press open. 4. Sew front sections to back sections at the shoulder seams. Press seam open. 5. RST pin lace/trim to sleeve edge. Sew in place. Press seam up. 6. Run gather stitch across sleeve cap. 7. Using placement marks on the pattern run elastic gathers on the wrong side of the sleeve by securing one end of the elastic and pulling it toward you while sewing to create the gather. 8. Gather sleeve cap to fit armhole opening. Pin in place and sew. 9. RST sew the front to the back at the side seam and sleeve. 10. RST pin trim/lace to lower edge of jacket. Press seam up. 11. Sew center back seam of lining 12. RST sew jacket lining side back sections to jacket lining back. 13. RST sew jacket lining side front sections to jacket front section. Clip seams, press open. 14. Sew lining back section to lining front sections at the shoulder seams. 15. Zigzag or serge lining armhole edge. 16. Sew front sections to back sections at side seam. 17. RST pin jacket lining to jacket. Sew all the way around garment leaving an opening in the hem edge for turning. 18. Clip seams and turn jacket right side out and press. 19. Check fit to doll. 20. Hand sew hem opening closed. 21. Mark snap placement, sew on snaps and decorative buttons. Skirt 22. RST sew trim/lace to hem edge of skirt. 23. Run gather stitch across the top of skirt edge. 24. Zigzag or serge on long side of skirt waistband. 25. Pull gathers to fit waistband. Sew in place. 26. Zigzag or serge both back openings. 27. Sew center back seam from hem to dot. 28. Turn left back opening under ¼ and fold waistband in half. Press. Topstitch waistband in place. 29. Fit to doll and sew a snap to finish. Bustle 30. RST sew bustle lining pieces together. Press seam open. 31. Run gather stitch across the top of the bustle lining. 32. RST sew bustle pieces together. Press seam open. 33. Create bustle pleats by folding fabric at the broken line and matching solid lines. Fold down toward the hem. Baste pleats in place. 34. Run a gather stitch across the top edge and bottom edge of bustle piece.
35. Gather bustle piece to fit bustle lining. RST pin lining to bustle. Sew all the way around edge, leaving waist edge open. 36. Zigzag or serge on long side of bustle band. 37. Pull gathers of bustle and lining to fit bustle band, leaving ¼ of bustle band past bustle on each side. Sew in place. 38. Turn each end of bustle band under ¼ 39. Fold bustle band to inside and hand stich in place. 40. Sew one side of snap set at each end of bustle band. Sew the other part of the snap set to skirt waistband. Fun Foam Hat 41. Cut out three hat pieces from fun foam. 42. Using a hole punch, punch two holes in the hat brim. Run a 1/8 satin ribbon through the holes. This tie will hold the hat onto the dolls head. 43. Create the hat crown by gluing a small piece of scrap fabric to one end of the hat crown. Form the circle and glue the other end of the hat crown to the fabric, matching ends. 44. Glue hat crown to hat brim, 45. Glue hat top to hat crown. 46. Decorate as desired. www.fletcherpatterncompany.com
