Apthorp Gallery 2019 exhibition information pack artsdepot is seeking exhibitions and/or installations to be presented in the Apthorp Gallery at artsdepot across three time periods in 2019. Exhibitions will be presented for one week during the May and October half term school holiday. In April the exhibition will be presented for two weeks during the Easter school holiday. Artist brief We are looking for each exhibition and/or installation to animate the entire space of the Apthorp Gallery in a creative and engaging way that is both inclusive to our audiences and complements our existing programme. We are located in North Finchley and will have theatre family shows in the venue during exhibition periods. The work will need to be engaging for all ages and suit a busy venue. We have an interest in: - Both new and established artists / collectives. - Proposals for both solo and group exhibitions. - Work that is interactive/participatory. - Work that explores or utilises digital technologies - Work that is suitable for family audiences - Work that is made for or with disabled audiences or artists - Artists that can facilitate workshops or other engagement activities alongside their exhibition. - Work which features immersive or performance art elements. Please note that it is not a requirement that your proposal falls into all of these categories. We aim to have a varied exhibition programme across the year. About artsdepot artsdepot is a multi-art form venue in North Finchley, London with two theatres, gallery and public spaces. artsdepot have a commitment to programming and presenting high-quality creative work with artistic excellence across all art forms. We have strong family audiences and participatory programmes and support work that is accessible to all. Recent Apthorp Gallery exhibitions have included: Pop Up Poetry Playground by Pencil and Help Easter 2018 Using shapes created by children in Waltham Forest in poetry and illustration workshops, designers Pencil and Help developed an interactive poetry playground. Visitors could take part in different activities throughout the gallery and create their own poems to take home. My Dirty Secret! By Kristina Veasey May 2018 Commissioned and supported by Unlimited, celebrating the work of disabled artists, with funding from Spirit of 2012. An immersive installation piece, borne from the artist s frustration as a disabled person battling to keep up with the housework. Images of common household debris were transformed into stunning fabrics and furnishings. Audio description, BSL interpretation, captions and text all formed integral parts of the installation. H2O by Andrea Shearing- October 2018 Since her student days, the sea has been an inspiration to Shearing. Works in the exhibition were inspired by the sea, waterfalls, and pools. The exhibition was composed of free standing paintings and shaped wall paintings. Shearing aims to explore how these forms relate to inner emotions as a means of personal expression. The artist held family workshops as part of artsdepot s Big Draw event on 22 nd October.
Fee There is an available budget of 1000-1800 for each exhibition. The fee will be determined based on the experience of the artist and content of the exhibition. This fee is to cover all preparation, design, making, materials, delivery and installation costs. This would be paid in 2 installations, 50% upon signing of a contract and 50% on completion of exhibition. Please note: engagement activity like workshops will be paid as an additional fee. Space The exhibition will take place in the artsdepot s Apthorp Gallery and will be curated by artsdepot staff if needed. As the gallery has limited equipment, artists may need to provide their own display equipment. The Apthorp Gallery is an invigilated space and is only open when a volunteer is present. This is for insurance purposes and to ensure the security of the works displayed. If you would like to volunteer to invigilate in the gallery during the exhibition please contact gallery@artsdepot.co.uk The gallery is open daily between 10am 4pm and on selected performance evenings. This is subject to change. Private View If requested artsdepot can host a private view for exhibitions. This is subject to further discussion with the Programming and Participation team. Publicity artsdepot will publicise the exhibition and works for sale if applicable. The artist will be asked to contribute to this process if needed. Reproduction Rights If selected for the exhibition, the artist agrees to the reproduction of their work (at no fee) in association with the exhibition (including publicity, press and website). If selected for the exhibition, the artist agrees to the reproduction of images of their work (at no fee) in association with the exhibition and future artsdepot exhibitions (including publicity, press, website and catalogue). Contract If selected the artist(s) will be required to enter into a contract with artsdepot that stipulates the project components, work and payment schedules and responsibilities of both parties.
Sales If work submitted is available for sale artsdepot will deduct 20% commission + VAT from all sales. Work cannot be removed from gallery before the exhibition closes. Transportation If your submission is successful, you are responsible for transporting artworks to and from artsdepot. artsdepot will provide: A Gallery space Plan of gallery included at the end of this document. Volunteer invigilators to ensure the security of the works displayed Technical support to help install and take down the exhibition A feature on our website, an e-shot to our visual arts mailing list and posters to publicise the event. The artist(s) will provide: Work which can be installed and taken down in one day All artworks for display Copy and image for marketing purposes Transportation to and from the venue Support for the curation, install and take down of the exhibition By sending a submission you agree to these conditions.

(100 words max). - A description of your artistic practice (200 words max). - Outline of your draft exhibition costs. - Details of any additional activities you could offer alongside your exhibition. - Details of any live, performative, or pop-up event elements you would be interested to include alongside your exhibition. You will be required to upload the following supporting documents: - Detailed exhibition proposal (one side of A4 maximum) - Artist CV (1 side of A4 maximum, multiple CVs if you are submitting for a group) - Up to 10 images of works with completed image list. For film work: please only submit an extract or show reel up to 5 minutes in length. - Links to previous works. Submissions Submissions due 5pm Friday 23rd November 2018. Interviews will be held Tuesday 4 th & Wednesday 5 th December 2018. Interviews will be via skype video call. Please let us know if you have any access requirements in relation to this that we need to be aware of. All submissions should be made via the google form link.
