RULE BOOK
The Peninsula Teenage Fashion Exhibition is an exciting concept, which encourages excellence in students studying fashion. It allows students to showcase their artistic talent combined with their practical and creative abilities. We provide an opportunity for students to design, construct and model their fashion garments. This Exhibition is a unique opportunity for students to develop their talent, self-esteem, ability to set and achieve goals, and to improve their self-confidence. GUIDELINES The entrant agrees that: 1. The outfit submitted must be the entrant s own work. They are undertaking secondary studies. They will take all responsibility for the delivery and collection of garments. 2. A parent or guardian must give permission on the entry form for the student to enter. 3. Entry will not be deemed valid unless entry form (parts 1, 2, 3a & b) are complete: Completed entry and consent forms returned for both designer and model (if the model is not the designer themself). Fees are paid. $15 per outfit (Fees are non-refundable) All completed forms and fees are to be received by Dromana College NO LATER THAN Wednesday 7 September 2016. (Cheques to be made payable to Dromana College) The garment does not have to be finished by Wednesday 7 September, just the paperwork. If the garment details are not finalised we can edit them on Sunday 16 October when the finished garment is to be presented. 4. Garments are to be made available after the event for publicity purposes. 5. A commercial pattern may be used as a template. 6. The decisions of the judges shall be final, and no correspondence will be entered into. 7. Models will NOT BE PROVIDED. Students must make their own arrangements and a permission form for the model must be provided. 8. There shall only be one designer per outfit without prior approval by the organizing committee.
9. Categories are as follows: Casual/Day Wear- this category covers general daywear outfits, including sportswear, beachwear and leisurewear. Special Occasion Wear this category covers all types of outfits worn to Formals or Gala events, and includes after five wear. Fantasy- this category allows entrants to produce and create an outfit. Construction and material are open ended. This section includes, but is not limited to, wearable art. 10. Each entrant will be required to have the outfits pre judged including, presentation of garments on the Catwalk Presentations on Sunday 16 October one week prior to the Gala Parade Monday 24 October to enable the judges to reach a final decision. Only contestants and models are permitted in the changing room or judging room on judging day. 11. The outcome of the judging will be the property of the PTFE committee, and will not be released to any students or public until the final presentation at the Gala Parade awards on Monday 24 October. 12. All garments are to remain at Dromana College during the intervening week. 13. Each entrant is required to model or provide a model to present their garment(s) in the final Parade on Monday 24 October and prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the parade. 14. The Peninsula Teenage Fashion Exhibition will not be liable for loss or damage to any garments or articles associated with this event, although all due care will be taken. 15. All outfits must be ironed and hung on a coat hanger and placed in a garment bag with the student and garment number on the outside, including accessories. 16. Dromana College Parents and Friends Association reserves the right of refusal for any garment not deemed appropriate, or which does not meet the set guidelines.
JUDGING An independent panel of three will be conducting the judging. Technical Judging Technical judging for excellence is determined by the following: Casual Wear/Day Wear and Special Occasion Wear will be judged on: Design Originality Fabric choice Style, fit and cut of fabric and notions, together with the overall sewing techniques and skills An example of the criteria used in the technical judging is below: Please note. The Fantasy Wear section is not technically judged Section A Compulsory Section B Individual Judges select only 5 criteria that are applicable to the garment 1. Correct cut of fabric 1. Choice of fabric (suitability of design) 2. Seam finish 2. Fastenings/openings 3. Hem finish 3. Sleeves/ armholes/ cuffs/ collar/ neckline 4. Degree of difficulty 4. Facings/ bindings/ linings 5. Finishing off and neatness 5. Trim/ decoration/embellishments 6. Hand sewing 7. Originality
CATWALK JUDGING All 3 categories are judged on the catwalk one week prior to the event.
