21/10/09 9:55 AM Why do you use all natural ingredients? Our research on hair products revealed some disturbing facts. For example, fragrance; one of the most common skin irritants can contain up to 4000 separate chemicals, most of them synthetic compounds which can be carcinogenic or toxic. Next, Sodium Laureth/Lauryl Sulphate, is a foaming agent and thickener. It creates the illusion of a product being concentrated, and is known to be irritating to the skin and to cause damage to the hair follicle. Surprisingly, this is used in almost all hair and body care products. Lastly, PVP/VA Copolmyer, a petroleum-derived chemical used mostly in hairsprays is considered to be toxic. As a result of these and other findings, we were determined that there should be a safe and effective, all natural hair care line formulated especially for kids. As a result, hairykids was born! How do you determine that all your ingredients are all natural? Certification of analysis is required by our supplier regarding composition and source of all product ingredients in determining that they are indeed all natural. Are your ingredients certified organic? We use only certified organic ingredients when we can. Having said that, some of our ingredients come from Third World countries, where the producers cannot afford to pay for organic certification. So while many of our ingredients are farmed and grown in an organic manner, we cannot legally call them organic because they have not been certified. We also have ingredients that are sourced from the wild, which cannot be certified as organic. Our ingredients are fresh, chemical free and extremely high in quality. Also, our ingredients have to come with a certificate of analysis proving quality. Oh, one more thing, we practice fair trade. How are your products formulated especially for kids? We wanted kids to have their very own safe line of hair products, so we created a line of salonquality hair products that are 100% effective. The products are safe because they're made from all natural ingredients, with controlled amounts of active ingredients like essential oils used to scent the products. I've heard lots of bad things about Sodium Laureth/Lauryl Sulphate: Do you use it? We absolutely do not use Sodium Laureth/Lauryl Sulphate in any of our products. In the article Dangerous Beauty, Mark Fearer states "... in tests, animals that were exposed to SLS experienced -eye damage, along with depression, labored breathing, diarrhea, severe skin irritation and corrosion and death." According to the American College of Toxicity report,"sls stays in the body for up to five days..." and also states both SLS and SLES can cause malformation in children's eyes. For fragrance, we use only essential oils, which are all natural, containing therapeutic properties as well as a long-lasting scent. Next, in place of Sodium Laureth the product used as a foaming agent, we use a gentle natural ingredient created from coconut oil. And finally, concerning PVP/VA Copolmyer, we use a combination of ingredients including natural grain alcohol and soya protein, providing a gentle, effective alternative, What do you use to give your products their scent? We use only essential oils to scent our products. These oils are made in small batches, using a traditional steam distillation process, practiced since the 1800's What's the difference between essential oils and fragrance? Essential oils are concentrated, highly aromatic scents derived from pure plant extracts, containing holistic properties. Whereas fragrances are cheap, synthetic, chemically derived and can contain up to 4000 separate chemicals, often associated with skin irritations, dermatitis and allergies. Are your products environmentally friendly? Yes - both the products and the packaging are environmentally friendly. The products are produced without the use of any harmful synthetic chemicals, they are biodegradable, and have been created in a safe, environmentally friendly way. And, once again, the packaging is recyclable. What's so important about the packaging? We chose the highest food grade plastic to ensure that the essential oils and overall product composition wouldn't be compromised by either clear or opaque plastics. The reason for this is that clear and opaque plastics allow light to filter through, damaging these naturally derived ingredients. Also, and equally important, they are recyclable! Do you test your products on animals? As if! Seriously, we absolutely don't test on animals (just family and friends). Why do your products cost more than some others? For many of the reasons mentioned above, from the scents we use, to packaging and blending in small batches, it simply costs more for us to produce a safe, responsible, alternative to most of the products being produced. We also believe that once you use our products you'll be more than pleased and convinced that they're worth it! Just like you!
