Then use the handout which covers the range of: Products Tools Equipment that are available for drying styling and finishing hair. Page 2 - Unit - Session 2.

Products available for drying, styling and finishing hair Explain that there is a huge choice in the range of products that are available for use when drying, styling and finishing hair. Tell learners that most salons will have a full range from a particular manufacturer. The products used in the salon are often linked with products that can be retailed to the client to enable them to maintain the style and condition of their hair at home. Tell learners to note, that while salons may use products from different manufacturers, most products will have similar features and benefits. The most frequently used products for styling and finishing are: Heat protectors Sprays Mousse Creams Gels Lotions Serums Suggestion Have examples of each product available for the learners to see. Use multi sensory learning and allow the learners to feel the consistency and smell the products to enable them to remember each one. Page 3 - Unit - Session 2.

Part 1 (Page 5 of Handout.4.1) Ask learners to complete the example column by writing the name of the products they have available for use in their own salon. Tools available for styling and finishing hair Ref: Handout.4.1 (continued) Explain that there are a variety of brushes and combs available for styling hair. Stress that the choice of tool often depends on: The length of hair The type of hair The texture of hair The density of hair The amount of volume and movement required In addition Individual preference Explain that hairdressers usually have to provide their own tools to use in the salon. However, some salon owners may provide them for everyone to use. Suggestion Have examples of each tool available for the learners to see. Remind learners what each tool is used for. Let the learners handle the tools to enable them to remember each one. Page 4 - Unit - Session 2.

Ref: Handout.4.1 (continued) Part 2 (Page 7 of Handout.4.1) Ask learners to complete the example column by writing the name of, or describing the tools they have available for use. Remind learners that the use of electrical equipment falls within the remit of the Electricity at Work Regulations. Page 5 - Unit - Session 2.

Suggestion Show examples of each piece of equipment. Explain how to use the larger pieces of drying equipment. Let the learners handle the smaller pieces of equipment to enable them to remember each one. If an example of the larger pieces of equipment is not available for the learners to see - have some pictures available to ensure they know what the equipment looks like. Ref: Handout.4.1 (continued) Part 3 (Page 8 of Handout.4.1) Ask learners to complete the available for use? column if they have the opportunity to be able to use the listed equipment. Not all the learners will have access to all the equipment - try to find the opportunity for those without access to use the equipment listed. 4.2 The manufacturers instructions on the use of specific styling and finishing products in your salon Page 6 - Unit - Session 2.

Ref: Handout.4.2 Ask the learners to complete the chart by stating the specific product(s) they have available for use, the type of hair the product should be used on, and the effects that can be achieved by using the product.
