Take a break in our Bistro, enjoy our millstream setting and make time to meet our resident makers in their studio spaces. I am honoured to take on responsibility for Walford Mill Crafts following the retirement of Christine Fletcher-Jones who dedicated herself to developing the Mill for everyone to enjoy. The Gallery Shop at Walford Mill Crafts supports over 300 British designers and contemporary makers both locally and nationally. You will discover a wide choice from small, unique affordable gifts to large one-of-a-kind ceramics, glass and prints. We offer a wonderful selection of pieces to enhance your home and a fabulous range of beautiful handmade bags, scarves and jewellery can be found alongside items specially chosen to compliment each exhibition. MILLSTREAM BISTRO Lucy Burley GALLERY SHOP At the Millstream Bistro you will find delicious paninis, quiches, healthy salads, warming soups, homemade cakes and lots of tempting treats! Each day there is a Specials Board offering a fine selection of affordable gourmet dishes. There is always a good choice for vegetarians and the Bistro strive to provide for people with special dietary requirements. Loyalty cards - The Millstream Bistro is now pleased to offer its own loyalty card. This entitles you to 10% off every visit including functions and parties for as little as 25 per annum (Please note this does not include weddings). Weddings and events - The Bistro is a beautiful location for a wedding reception or special occasion and offer delicious food at competitive rates. RESIDENT MAKERS Debby Kirby - Debby has been based at Walford Mill Crafts for over 27 years and has a wealth of textile knowledge and expertise. Visit her atmospheric studio to watch the fascinating processes she uses to create these distinctive pieces on her Countermarch loom. Debby weaves fine silk scarves, accessories and interior accents in her signature style. This year Debby is concentrating on an exciting range of new collaborative work. Find out more about Debby through her website www.debbykirby.co.uk Kathryn Arbon - Kathryn s interest in gemology and her love for the great outdoors keeps her work fresh and intriguing. Kathryn produces exclusive ranges of gold and silver jewellery and is also a jewellery tutor teaching classes at Walford Mill Crafts and AUB in Bournemouth. This year Kathryn is offering couples the chance to make their own wedding or commitment rings under her guidance in the comfort of the Gatehouse Studio. You can find out more about Kathryn through her website kathrynarbonjewellery.com Jen Goodwin - Jen has been embroidering with the Royal School of Needlework since 2000. Her work is extremely intricate and she focuses on working in great detail on a small scale. She is responsible for all aspects of the creation of her pieces, from design to finished product. Jen is also an experienced tutor and teaches stylised and imaginative hand embroidery using a range of historical embroidery techniques, including ecclesiastic goldwork, Tudor style blackwork and many other fascinating processes. Find out more about Jen through her website www.jengoodwinembroidery.com Chantal Seddon - Chantal creates bespoke hand felted jewellery using soft merino wool. Each piece is lovingly crafted using a wet felting process that bonds the fibres together using a combination of heat, friction and water. Her individual beaded necklaces are bold, striking and fun statement pieces. In her latest collection she is encasing felt swirls in a sterling silver surround, a setting which compliments beautifully the delicate nature of the wool. EXHIBITIONS Unfold - Exploring the Process of Collaboration 5th April - 18th May Explore how creative practitioners can combine their mediums to develop new and innovative results. This show focuses on makers who have embraced the ideas of experimentation and sharing of knowledge in new collaborative ways and the evolution of making skills when collaborating. Cabinets of Curiosity 15th February - 30th March When a cabinet drawer is opened echoes of the past are often evoked, piquing our curiosity. Discover the wonderful work of makers who respond to collections and collecting. We invite you to find inspiration and delight in this exhibition of intriguing and curious objects. Dresses and Darnings 24th May - 6th July This solo show by Jenni Dutton brings together for the first time, her work from several series over the past 20 years. Using a wide variety of materials and techniques, she uses this breadth to explore issues around memory, identity and loss through the subject of the female form. From a collection of Conceptual Clothing pieces to the Mosaic series where reclaimed objects and broken china are assembled onto a mannequin-like figure, she has experimented with different approaches, including mixed media textiles, sculpture, installation and painting. Her current preoccupation with the complexities of the mother / daughter relationship can be seen in the Dementia Darnings, large woven portraits of the artist s mother from childhood to old age. In the Dead of Night 12th July - 31st August Inspired by nocturnal animals this exhibition highlights work created by makers who are inspired by creatures that appear in the dead of night. East Dorset Bat Rescue will be providing an opportunity to meet some of their bats at a family talk here on 12th July from 2.00-3.30pm. Wood and Fibre 13th September - 26th October Upholstered seats on chairs; cushions on benches; cloths on tables - there is an intimate connection between wood and fibre. This exhibition explores that relationship in a fusion of beautiful handmade wooden furniture and delicate woven, stitched and sewn textiles. Curated by Anne Hitchcock of The Slade Centre in Gillingham. Take the first on the right. A public car park can be found adjacent to the Mill. (Sat Nav: BH21 1NL) By bus: Take a bus to Wimborne Square. We are just an 8 minute walk from the Square. By foot: From Wimborne town square, head north past the Tivoli theatre, continue along this road to the traffic lights. Turn left into Stone Lane, cross over and take the first right into Knobcrook Road and follow to the end. Or, from Allendale Centre, follow the riverside walk until you reach the BP garage/budgens. Cross over the road and walk through the pedestrian walkway past Walford Mill Studios. Bicycles can be left at your own risk in the courtyard area. Dogs on leads are welcome in the courtyard area only.
