MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET 1 PRODUCT AND COMPANY IDENTIFICATION Product Name: Hardwood Plywood Product No.: Not applicable Synonyms: Hardwood plywood, plywood paneling, plywood Molecular Formula: Not applicable/mixture Manufacturer Name: Emergency Telephone: Birchland Plywood-Veneer Ltd CHEMTREC (800) 424-9300 or (703) 527-3887 HWY 17 East Thessalon, Ontario, CANADA Intended Use: Construction material 2 HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION General Information: Under normal handling, the product is expected to pose low health hazards as the ingredients are firmly embedded in a wood matrix. Dusts generating from sawing, sanding, or machining of this particleboard may post the health hazards described in this MSDS. Emergency Overview Physical State: Solid (panel) Color: Varies with formulation Odor: Varies with formulation WARNING! Inhalation of wood dust may cause allergic respiratory reactions depending on wood type. Dust may cause eye and respiratory tract irritation. Potential Health Effects Health effects listed are for wood dust: Inhalation: Dust may cause nasal dryness, respiratory tract irritation, and allergic respiratory reactions. Exposure may include coughing, asthmatic breathing, and breathlessness. Eye Contact: Dust may cause eye irritation. Exposure may include eye tearing, redness and discomfort. Skin Contact: Dust may cause mechanical irritation. Exposure may cause irritation, dermatitis, rash and redness. Ingestion: Not expected to be a route of entry. NA ENGLISH MSDS 1/7

Chronic Health Effects: The NTP and IARC classify wood dust as a carcinogen. Wood dust, depending on the species, may cause allergic contact dermatitis and respiratory sensitization with prolonged, repetitive contact or exposure to elevated dust levels. Prolonged exposure (depending on the species) of wood dust has shown to be associated with nasal cancer. Target Organ(s): Nasal passages, lung OSHA Regulatory Status: Wood products are not hazardous under the criteria of the Federal OSHA Hazard Communication Standard 29 CFR 1910.1200. However, any wood dust or formaldehyde emissions generated by sawing, sanding or machining this product may be hazardous. 3 COMPOSITION / INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS General Information: This product is used as plywood, a construction material. Chemical Name CAS No. Concentration wood dust not applicable proprietary synthetic adhesive not applicable proprietary formaldehyde 50-00-0 <.08 ppm This product does not contain urea-formaldehyde (UF) resins. The ingredients of this product are bound together under heat and pressure. Components not listed are not hazardous or are below reportable limits. 4 FIRST AID MEASURES Inhalation: Move to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical attention immediately. Eye Contact: In case of contact with dust, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. If easy to do, remove contact lenses, if worn. Get medical attention. Skin Contact: Wash with soap and water. If skin irritation develops, get medical attention. Wash clothing before reuse. Ingestion: Not applicable 5 FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES Extinguishing Media: Water spray, carbon dioxide or dry chemical Special Fire Fighting Procedures: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing. Unusual Fire & Explosion Hazards: Dust may form explosive dust-air mixtures. Depending on moisture content and particle diameter, wood dust may explode in the presence of an ignition source. Hazardous Combustion Products: Burning of wood can produce irritating fumes and gases including carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, aldehydes and organic acids. NA ENGLISH MSDS 2/7

6 ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES Personal Precautions: Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (See Section 8). Spill Cleanup Methods: Not applicable for product in purchased form. Wood dust generated from sawing, sanding, or machining may be vacuumed or shoveled for recovery or disposal. Avoid generating dust. 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE Handling: No special handling precautions are warranted for product in purchased form. When the product is sawed, sanded, machined, or other abrading processes, wear appropriate personal protective equipment. See Section 8. Avoid breathing dust. Avoid getting dust into eyes. Use only with adequate ventilation. Wash thoroughly after handling. Prevention of Fire and Explosion: Keep away from strong oxidizing agents. Minimize dust generation and accumulation. In the United States of America, refer to NFPA Pamphlet No. 654, "Prevention of Fire and Dust Explosions in the Chemical, Dye, Pharmaceutical, and Plastics Industries." Storage: Store in a cool, dry place. Keep away from ignition sources when machining. 8 EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION Exposure Limits: Chemical Name Source Type Exposure Limits Notes Wood dusts inhalable ACGIH TWA 1 mg/m 3 Pulmonary function fraction Wood dust (all OSHA TWA 5 mg/m 3 -- hard and softwoods) Wood dust (total OSHA TWA 15 mg/m 3 -- dust) Formaldehyde ACGIH Ceiling 0.3 ppm Irritation Limit Formaldehyde OSHA TWA 0.75 ppm -- Formaldehyde OSHA Action 0.5 ppm -- Level Formaldehyde OSHA STEL 2 ppm -- Engineering Controls: Use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation, or other engineering controls to keep airborne contaminants below established exposure limits. Respiratory Protection: If engineering controls do not keep airborne concentrations below established exposure limits, wear a NIOSH-approved respiratory equipped with high efficiency particulate filter. Contact health and safety professionals for specific information. NA ENGLISH MSDS 3/7

Eye Protection: When sawing, sanding or machining this product, wear approved safety goggles or glasses with side shields. Wear a full-face respirator, if needed. Hand Protection: Wear leather gloves. Contact health and safety professionals for additional information. Skin Protection: Wear disposable coveralls, lab coat, or apron to prevent skin contact. Hygiene Measures: Always observe good personal hygiene measures, such as washing after handling the material and before eating, drinking, and/or smoking. Routinely wash work clothing and protective equipment to remove contaminants. 9 PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES Color: Varies with formulation Odor: Varies with formulation Odor Threshold: No data available Physical State: Solid (panel) ph: Not applicable Melting Point: Not applicable Freezing Point: Not applicable Boiling Point: Not applicable Flash Point: No data available Evaporation Rate: No data available Flammability Limit - Upper (%): No data available Flammability Limit - Lower (%): No data available Vapor Pressure: Not applicable Vapor Density (Air=1): Not applicable Specific Gravity: < 1 (estimated) Solubility in Water: Insoluble Solubility (Other): No data available Partition Coefficient (n-octanol/water): Not applicable Auto-ignition Temperature: No data available.
