See also the attached Directions to Candidate and Exam Marking Sheet.

DIRECTIONS TO CANDIDATES 1. You are requested to bring the following PROFESSIONAL EQUIPMENT and SUPPLIES with you when you report for the practical examination: - Towels (20) - Setting lotion and gel - End papers - Neck strip (optional) - Hair spray (optional) - Water spray bottle - Finishing rinse (optional) - Shampoo - Brushes - Combs - Cutting cape - Du-all clips or jaws - Neck duster - Professional blower and curling iron - Clippers, scissors and/or razor: You may use any of the aforementioned tools (no specialty clipper guides or blades of any kind to be used). - Permanent wave rods (36) - Applicator or brush and bowl for applying tint - Moisture repellent cape - Rubber gloves - Peroxide and colour (for a one-step permanent colour) - Tint apron - Protection cream and colour remover - Timer NOTE: Positively no towels or any part of your supplies or equipment can be borrowed at the examination. Points may not be awarded to candidates who fail to provide themselves with the supplies and equipment listed above. You are obliged to bring other professional products and supplies to complete all services on the exam. 2. Floor Dryers will be supplied at the place of examination. 3. HAIRSTYLIST MODEL You are required to supply your own models. Models must not be a hairstylist or associated with the trade. The models must be in need of a haircut and be agreeable to having it cut and tinted. A minimum of ½ inch of hair to be removed. THE MODELS MUST BE AGREEABLE TO THE SIGNING OF A RELEASE FORM AND HAVING A STRAND TEST AND PATCH TEST PRIOR TO THE EXAM DATE. TAPER HAIRCUT MODEL It is the responsibility of the candidate to supply a model who has a full head of hair. Your model must be prepared to accept a taper haircut similar to the enclosed picture (a minimum of ½ inch of hair to be removed). 4. Candidate hygiene - Every candidate shall be clean in his/her habits and dress in professional attire(no denim clothing). 5. Candidates shall not display badges or pins identifying them with any particular school or salon. 6. Please arrive at least fifteen minutes before the examination for your station preparation.

HAIRSTYLIST EXAMINATION "B" PRACTICAL EXAMINATION CONTENT You will be expected to demonstrate your skill and knowledge in the following sequence. AREA MAXIMUM TIME OPERATION TAPER HAIRCUT HAIR COLOUR - FULL SERVICE 30 Min. Techniques must be scissors over comb or clipper over comb (no thinning clippers or specialty shears). You are required to do a natural hairline tapered haircut. Taper on the sides must expose the entire ear. Taper on the back must be a clean natural hairline taper cleaned up but not blocked. Top length and overall shaping must blend without creating a weight line. Each candidate is required to bring a model with a full head of hair, willing to accept a tapered haircut (a minimum of ½ inch of hair to be removed). Specialty clipper guides or blades not allowed. 100 Min. Preparation of model. One-step peroxide permanent hair colour, full application either virgin hair going darker, virgin hair going lighter or re-touch. LUNCH BREAK 60 Min. Provided the morning services are completed on time. FINGER WAVE DEMONSTRATION 15 Min. Finger wave the entire head (no clips or clamps to be used). PERM DEMONSTRATION 40 Min. Basic sectioning (9 sections) of the entire head, wrapping the front portion from ear to ear, including the front hairline, together with the nape area from ear to ear leaving the three sections in the crown area unwrapped. The hair in the nape area must be of suitable length for wrapping. (Water only to be used) LAYERED HAIRCUT 30 Min. Complete haircut with scissors, razor or clippers. (No specialty clipper guides or blades of any kind to be used) Must be a layered haircut. A minimum of ½ inch of hair to be removed. HAIRSTYLING - 45 Min. Blow dry and curling iron set on the entire head is required. The curling iron technique should reflect the style being created. You will be marked on the blow dry and curling iron set as well as the finished hairstyle and suitability to the model. DEPORTMENT AND APTITUDE Conduct and grooming at professional standards.

AREA MAXIMUM TIME OPERATION TIME LIMIT 5½ Hours Although the times allocated total 5½ hours, the total time for the exam includes lunch break and marking time and it is expected it will take approximately 7 hours. PASSMARK 70% The purpose of having more than one marker in attendance at the practical examinations is to obtain the broadest possible trade expertise. This expertise is applied in assessing the individual skill operations, to be able to average the marks awarded and be as fair as possible regarding the candidate s practical ability. The marks are awarded throughout the examination and as each skill is demonstrated. All marks awarded, by necessity, are final.
