Who I AM I am friendly and thoughtful, and, by nature, an introvert. Mathematical and conservative perspectives reflected in my design work are inspired by my love of drafting, calculus, and music. My personal work interjects a pinch of symbolism into non-representational and abstract art. In contradiction, my photography work offers a closeup view of nature. My imagination is filled with ideas, inspiration and references interpreted from the world around me. Alicia Miller 155 Pine Shadow Drive Goose Creek, SC 29445 256.298.0207 aliciamiller0127@gmail.com September 23rd, 2011 Karl Boone President Alabama Disposal System 4940 Research Drive Huntsville, AL 35805 Dear Mr. Karl Boone: I am writing to you because I have an interest in becoming an asset to your company as a graphic designer. My strengthens include a Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design from The Art Institute of Atlanta, where I have been working with up to date software such as Adobe Creative Suite 4 such as Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Flash with some experience with Dreamweaver. In addition, I am proficient working with different operating systems such as Windows, Macintosh, and Linux. As the enclosed resume explains, I have eight years of customer service which shows that I can handle even the most stressful situations and keep on track in a timely manner. Also, I have successfully obtained an Associates Degree in Accounting. This suggests that I have the capabilities to multitask and visualize different angles and strategies because I know the importance of budgeting. In the past two years, I have transferred colleges and have had the opportunity to visit new places therefore, I am very willing to travel when the opportunity should arise. Alicia Miller 155 Pine Shadow Drive Goose Creek, SC 29445 I would appreciate having a personal conversation regarding the graphic design position that is available at Alabama Disposal System. I can be reach ed at 256-298-0207 at your convenience. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Alicia L. Botanical Ad This simplistic ad promotes the annual summer orchid exhibit hosted by the Atlanta Botanical Garden. While visiting the exhibit I captured the photo used in this ad. From several strong images from my photo shoot, I chose the close-up of the orchid for its overall shape and warmth. My ad accurately depicts the calmness and peacefulness of the event.

blink Tired of waking up like a zombie after taking a sleep aid the night before? Me too! That is why I came up with an idealistic brand to take care of insomnia. I invoke a natural stimulus within my logo so the customer will feel relaxed and tired the instant they pick up the product. I have designed the brand identity booklet to show future manufacturers how the brand will be executed in any advertising and packaging situation by placing my own images and illustrations to point them in the right direction. The front cover is an actual die cut of the logo which obtains its color by the table of contents.

Jack and Jill I approach the child s story of Jack and Jill with symbolism. I imagined a place that is between the world and space while providing the Jill figure with the convenient I told you so appearance. It is simple and complex with refreshing colors that will cater toward the adult audience and be identifiable and fun for children.

Teapot I learned the most about graphic design by this tea pot. During the beginning ceramics class, the students were not allowed to throw the clay onto a potter s wheel. Instead, we had to form and mold the piece in the most accurate and timely manner as possible and add the correct colors to portray the mood and feeling. I designed the teapot in a unique form so when liquid is poured from the spout, it will have a high-pitched sound.

Shakespeare Covers The Shakespeare book covers I come across seem unappealing and lifeless to the point they are lost in the back of the bookstores (as seen below). The book covers I came up with are a modern and symbolic interpretation of one of my favorite writers. The reason I chose Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, and Hamlet is because they are apart of his more dramatic series. The ampersand is shaped to form the vile of poison that Romeo drank from as the impending doom of the story comes to Romeo s end. The way the poison would have been contained would have been from another glass piece to fit inside to dispense only one drop at a time. It is shaped like a dagger in which Juliet ends her own life. With the two objects together, it looks to be a grave sitting on the hill side for all those to remember them. The three witches prophesize the story of Macbeth. They turn the world upside down in their evil ways and betrayal (color yellow) so they are locate d in the top left. At the end of Macbeth s triumphant life (the climax of the story), he learns of all the lies and stabs his own eyes out with his mother s broach and became blind (color black to represent blindness). The witches begin to chant again and the story is questioned about the probability of evens. I highlighted the word if, which has taken the different direction and a turn for the worse. The story ends in bloodshed, thus located at the bottom right-hand corner. The most notorious story that has a skull in it. I turned the skull to a 3/4inch view so the other side becomes slightly distorted. It is the skull from a joker in the story as Hamlet envisions a ghost throughout the story. He is driven mad with his own thoughts, and I can imagine him clenching his teeth together from the stress and alpha-maleness he offers throughout the story. The color orange is utilized to symbolize ignorance and superiority. Before actual examples

Tattoo Ad I have my own unique way of sketching the world around me and this time I incorporated my sketches into tattoo designs for Rising Dragon Tattoos, located in NY. I chose Rising Dragon because they have a great artistic appearance, but they lack in the ability to make an advertisement that showcases their flexibility and creativity. My sketches appear to have the tattoo appearance to them so I incorporated my hand drawn illustrations with my graphic design skills.

Cyrenian House The annual report for the drug and alcohol rehabilitation center known as the Cyrenian House, located in Australia, was notorious on the intent for having one of the worst logos-ever. I devised a plan and created a new logo with an updated annual report that is economical to reproduce by the use of only two colors.: Black and Pantone 349. Before actual example After

Cyrenian House Poster The poster is for an Australian rehabilitation center known as the Cyrenian House. I provide their patients with an encouraging poster to hang in their room to mark the calendar, month-by-month, in order to keep track of the days of sobriety. I was impressed with what the Cyrenian House has to offer for their community and making materials for their patients, families, and employees was an enjoyable experience. From the poster, I gained a vision to create an interactive display that has similar qualities to the poster. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7

The age group that is worst affected by drug addiction is 18-29. Alcoholism is the most prominent cause of birth abnormalities. Drug abuse commonly leads to poor health and mental health issues. The root cause for 25% of the total deaths can be attributed to drug abuse. 65% of drug addicts get access to cash through their close family and friends. Heroin and cocaine contribute to 70% of illicit drug addiction problems across America. Cyrenian House 318 Fitzgerald Street Perth WA 6000Australia (08) 9328.9220 The drug consumption generally begins at adolescent years. Statistics reveal that the average age is 12.5 years.

Band Aid Are you sick of picking up lose Band Aids? I developed a new concept for Band Aid by coming up with a dispensing package that keeps them on a roll until ready for use. The box is smaller than the original and becomes cost efficient in the long run. The overall functionality of the container becomes helpful to an individual who is injured when they are alone; have many tasks going on at the same time; suffer with carpel tunnel issues. Before actual example

The Atlantic I decided to revamp and update the appearance of The Atlantic. Before, it appeals to a conservative crowd. It is extremely wordy and becomes loses the main point in their articles. I used a six column grid to help free up the space and utilized bright colors to appeal to the liberal crowd they have created the magazine for in the first place. Before actual examples

I am new to the Charleston area and I love to visit historical places; however, I noticed during my adventures there were very few children who were learning about the area or having an adventure of their own. I wanted them to have and adventure and to seek out new things; thus, how seek! was born. I produced a kit includes scavenger hunt cards, flash cards, color book with crayons, binoculars, stickers, map, and a brand identity guide to help manufacturers reproduce seek! in the future. USS Yorktown Scavenger Hunt Card 3 x3 Help Eebert seek these things. Rope knots First Aid Kit Sound Powered Phone Kitchen M&Ms How is the earth, here? EebisEebert Charleston has its own fault line, and an earthquake devastated a good portion of the area in 1886. It was so powerful, it rang church bells in New York City! Trivia Card 3.5 Diameter

Futura Postcard Three years ago, I learned Paul Renner and I had something in common; create simplistic and modern functionality for creating timeless pieces. The Futura font can be in many ways and I decided it can be used in many ways on the front of the postcard. One the back, there is a simple summary about the creator of the font and an alphabet example. This postcard could be collected by those who love typography and utilize them as educated greeting cards. Postcard front and back 8.5 x6

AMERICAN GODS American Gods The book cover is created by mixing in two images and then unifying them with an antique look. The fonts are chosen to appear to be fading away, as the Elder Gods do within the story. The cover of the book now has an updated look with a portion of the actual story staring out at the audience. by Neil Gaiman Before actual example
