The Vanishing lady Klemm s Berlin, 2017 & presented in group show Rehearsal, Tai Kwun Contemporary, Hong Kong, 2018.
The Vanishing Lady, the eponymous title of the famous magic trick that consisted of making a woman disappear on stage before spectators. This trick inspired Lyman Frank Baum, an illustrious merchandiser in the late 19th century, who invented a new way of apprehending merchandise by installing a model, in flesh and blood, in a showcase, who appeared and disappeared wearing a new hat each time. This idea was very provocative for the time, the mob went wild in order to admire the woman who for the first time assisted in this type of spectacle. It was necessary to protect the window which threatened to collapse because of the boisterous audience. Baum's strategy was to introduce the look as an object into the consumer desire relationship in order to change the trajectory of the passers-by and push them into entering the shop although it was not the a priori reasoning. At the same time he created a magazine The Show Window and the profession of window-dresser. He also became very famous later by writing The Wizard Of Oz which is also a parody of world neoliberalism and nascent capitalism. The Lady Vanishes is also that of Hitchcock inspired by the short story The Purloined letter by Edgar Poe. But it is also what nourishes many urban legends like the woman who walks along the road dressed in a white dress. Unlike the invisible man who was remodeled many times in the cinema or television series, strangely, the invisible woman has hardly had as much success as the woman who disappears, which has been in the box office since the beginning of the Cinema since The Vanishing Lady was also the first film of Méliès. Paris, April 2016. adult Island, Bruxelles, 2016 The everlasting phenomenologic question of the young girl. Anyway, at this particular moment, I find it funny when my automatic corrector point the word «fille» (girl in english), proposing as an alternative «folle» (crazy in english). With all due respect to grandma Woolf, it s the matter of one single vowel, and it seems to appear as a combo part of the system. The picture is a bit rebel and wild. That girl, it s me, younger. A while ago, I was an apparatus gymnast. I have always been fascinated by Nadia Comaneci, as many people. That young girl was carrying the world on her back. Her, only, could channel the symptoms of a period divided by the cold war. Her, «the mecanic cat», as named by a Guardian s journalist, who s mediatic impact, literally and figuratively, held the whole world in a turmoil. Shortly after, Karin agency targets me in London, and asks me to do some «polas». While waiting my turn, I ran away, I was not assuming it. The picture has been taken for my bachelor, a subject about selfportrait, that was in 1998. First rupture, I am too tall and too old to go on with gym. Desiring fluxes s overdose. In the Solitude of the Cotton Fields, a man walks at night, meets a dealer who tries to persuade him that he possesses his desire s object. Who desires, when do we desire? «I did love you once» Hamlet. What is good with the young girl is that she embodies both the canon and the gap.
