New Zealand s luxury knitwear house... Quality Craftmanship Heritage The rich history of Merinomink began when the ancestors of the brand founder, Peri Drysdale, sailed from Britain on one of the First Four ships to Canterbury, New Zealand in 1850. From those early colonial beginnings a deep connection with sheep farming for the family began. At the age of four, Peri, helped in the woolshed on the picturesque high country sheep farming property which incorporated the Snowy Peak high country block, after which the company is named. From 1981, Snowy Peak Ltd has been working with the finest natural fibres including Merino to become arguably the finest purveyors of luxury knitwear in New Zealand. In 1992 Snowy Peak Ltd produced the first garment ever made in possum fibre and wool, then over the next four years pioneered the development of high quality yarns and garments in Merino blended with the possum fibre. It was in 1996 Snowy Peak Ltd launched the brand Merinomink, blending fine merino and possum fibre. Some of this development was done with technical experts from two of the world s finest luxury fabric weavers: Mitsuboshi Woollen Mills and Hayazen, in Ichinomiya, Japan. These mills went on to produce possum fibre fabrics created, under a joint venture project, to luxury brands such as Chanel, Gucci and Louis Vuitton. Beautiful garments in a stunning fibre that quickly became the new benchmark for quality and luxury. Credited by Wools of New Zealand for establishing the possum knitwear industry, Merinomink continues to be renowned for its innovative and original designs, luxurious quality and authentic heritage. Today, Merinomink has become a global brand, being worn by many world leaders and people of influence.
