Please check the website regularly for updates http://www.skillscanada.bc.ca Purpose of the Challenge: To celebrate and recognize students for excellence in their mastery of hairdressing skills, and to create an interactive and engaging environment for competitors, spectators, and hairdressing industry professionals. Sponsorship: This competition is generously sponsored by KAO Canada and Goldwell/KMS. Due to logistical reasons and difficulty in getting kits to competitors, there is a new hard cut-off registration date of March 28, 2018. You MUST be registered with Skills Canada BC by March 28, 2018, in order to compete. If a registered competitor withdraws from the competition, the spot will remain unfilled. Practice mannequins and products may be ordered before March 28 through your KAO representative at reduced school prices prior to this date. These supplies will be deemed as replenished by receipt of the kit. Please carefully read the order form to know what supplies are included in the 2018 kit. Schools can order practice mannequins, products and colour prior to March 28 th at reduced school prices from KAO. Contact your local KAO Salon Consultant or the Field Education Manager, Laurie Tosh. Only Goldwell and KMS labels and logos are allowed on the competition floor. All other labels/logos must be covered. Demerits will be awarded for infraction of this rule. Electrical tools, cutting equipment, combs and brushes are exempt. To ensure consistency in colour and styling results all competitors must use the Dannyco female mannequin level 5 2B for test 3 & the Dannyco male mannequin #2 for Test #2. For Test #1 Goldwell will be providing a loaned Dannyco 927, level 8a. This LOANED mannequin must NOT be CUT OR COLOURED and must be returned after the competition is completed. Use of other mannequins will result in infraction demerits. See page 3 & 4 for KAO order form and terms. 2

Please fill out the school and student information as well as your color choices and email this form before March 28 th, 2018. If your form is not received prior to March 28 th, there will be a delay in processing. Products will be shipped to participants once Kao Canada receives confirmation of student registrations. Please ensure your sponsorship order form has been submitted prior to the registration deadline. The order forms will be processed in the order of receipt. Kao Canada requests that forms be sent a minimum of 2 weeks prior to deadline. ****PLEASE NOTE THAT 2018 COMPETITION CHANGES REMAIN CONSISTENT WITH NATIONALS. ****REVIEW ALL RULES. Cell phones must not be used during the competition. This includes texting and taking pictures. Drapery, clothing, jewellery and makeup may NOT be used on the mannequins. As is consistent with the Nationals. This competition will allow the young stylists to demonstrate their technical skills and creative ability in the following tests: Test #1 Bridal Up style/do with Three Wishes Test #2 Men s Classic Sculptured Haircut and Style Test #3 Salon Cut Commercial (with colour enhancement) No written test will be administered. The theoretical knowledge will be relevant in the performance of the practical tests. Safety Instructions: Competitors must demonstrate aptitude in safety awareness. First aid kits will be available on site. Equipment, Tools, & Materials Supplied by Contestant on Competition Day (April 18 th, 2018) 2 female Mannequins (Dannyco 2B level 5) (1 for competition, 1 for practice) 1 male mannequin (Dannyco Male #2) Goldwell Styling Products Goldwell chemical colours Supplied prior to competition by Goldwell if ordered by March 28 th. See Goldwell Sponsorship Form on page 3 to order The competitor will provide all other equipment and supplies deemed necessary by the competitor, including but not limited to: Table top clamp style mannequin stand for display during judging. Shampoos/conditioners/towels as required. Cutting tools and equipment (no clippers/trimmers allowed) Styling tools and equipment Colouring chemicals, tools and equipment Equipment, craft scissors and tools required to create all three wish possibilities (waves, curls, crimps) in bridal Colouring equipment, product and supplies with non-goldwell brand names must be covered. Drapery, clothing, jewellery and makeup may NOT be used on the mannequins. IT IS THE COMPETITORS RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT ALL REQUIRED SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT ARE BROUGHT TO THE COMPETITION VENUE. There is no equipment, product or chemicals available for loan at the competition site. Competitor Clothing Requirements: Clothing should be clean and comfortable as would be worn by staff working in a modern hair salon. The competitor must wear the sponsor apron provided. Closed toed shoes are mandatory. 5

Competition Preparation: Mannequin and supply orders must be received by KAO by MARCH 28th in order to guarantee delivery. Contact Laurie Tosh, Field Education Manager, Kao Salon Division to order 1 female practice mannequin, 1 female and 1 male competition mannequins, products and colour (at cost of sponsor - see order form on page 3 of scope) Email: laurie.tosh@kao.com (Additional practice mannequins and supplies available before March 28 at school/competitors cost as outlined on page 1). Judging/Distribution of Marks: Prior to judging, all equipment and personal items must be removed from the competition floor. For judging, all mannequins must be placed upright and square to the mirror on a clamp style mannequin stand that is screwed securely to the table. Mannequin stand extenders or tripod stands are not permitted for mannequin display during judging. The judges must be able to clearly see the front of the mannequin in the mirror while viewing the back. One demerit will be applied for every Goldwell/KMS product ordered but NOT used at competition. All scores assigned are final. As is the BC Skills practice, scores will not be posted. Where applicable, assessment will be based upon: 1. Structural Form Shape and balance Hair to face relationship. Manner in which hair surrounds face. 2. Workmanship Use of colour Shading Details and dimensions Neatness and quality 3. Originality in Design Harmony of textures and colours Has the design been seen before? Is there a new/different concept used? 4. Creativity Originality of creativity. IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT THE COMPETITOR FAMILIARIZES HER/HIM/THEMSELVES WITH THE ASSESSMENT CHECKLISTS ON PAGE 6, AND ON EACH TEST DESCRIPTION. DEMERITS WILL RESULT IN THE CASE OF INFRACTIONS OF RULES AND/OR TEST GUIDELINES. A COPY OF THIS SCOPE MAY BE TAKEN TO THE COMPETITION AND USED AS REFERENCE. 6

General Assessment checklist: Equipment and personal items are not left on competition floor during judging. Mannequin is placed upright and square to the mirror for judging. A clamp-style mannequin stand is used, no extenders/tripods are used for mannequin display. Drapery, clothing, jewelry and/or makeup is not used on mannequin(s). Coloured spray, gel, mousse or colour markers have not been used. Stop time has been respected. No coaching /communication with or from audience/competitor. Cell phones are not to be used on the competition floor for any reason. No use of technical support such as formulas, pictures, drawings, notes etc. Mannequin model/type specified in the scope has been used. All labels, containers and applicators of styling and colour products other than Goldwell/KMS brands must be covered. Electrical equipment combs and brushes exempt. All Goldwell/KMS products and colours ordered have been used during the competition. Tools/equipment are not borrowed from another competitor. Only one plug is used at any one time. Other regulations as outlined in the scope tests. 7

TEST #1 BRIDAL UP WITH THREE WISHES Time limit: 1 hour The competitors create a commercial/traditional bridal up-style (no half-down) on long hair, incorporating three wishes of the imaginary bride, within 1 hour. A mannequin will be loaned for this test Dannyco 927, level 8. The mannequin hair must not be cut in any way. The competitors will be asked to remove the mannequin from the bag and brush the hair straight back. All materials that the competitor uses for this test must be displayed on their workstation at the beginning of the test. The Sages will inspect competitor workstations. Three Wishes: The competitor must incorporate the three wishes of the imaginary bride into their look: 1. A length of tulle 12 (30.5 cm) x 24 (61 cm) will be provided to the competitor. The tulle may be cut if desired, but all the tulle provided must be used. The competitor must bring craft scissors for cutting the tulle. Craft scissors will NOT be provided. 2. Texture of either waves, crimps or curls must be used, and evident in the finished design. The General Commissioner will draw one of these textures from a hat before the test begins. Competitors must bring all tools required for all textures and be prepared to incorporate the drawn texture into the design, although other textures can also be used. 3. An ornament will be provided that must be used in the design. Everything provided must be used. The ornament may not be altered in any way. During the competition: 1. The competitor may not cut or colour the mannequin hair. Products containing colours and glitter are forbidden. 2. Styling Products: Product bottles that are not Goldwell/KMS must be covered to conceal brand or product identifiers. 3. Styling Tools: All styling tools are allowed. Be sure to bring tools to crimp, wave and curl the hair. 4. The use of supports and/or padding of any kind are forbidden. 5. An ornament will be provided for use by each competitor. It must be used as received, not altered in any way. 6. During judging, the judges must be able to see the complete hairstyle, including the top. Mannequins must be presented on a table stand without an extender, facing square to the mirror. No props, makeup or jewellery are allowed. 7. Competitors who do not observe the instructions above will be de-merited by the Sages. 8. Only 1 plug per competitor is available on the competition floor, and only 1 device can be used at a time on this plug (no multiple adapters). TEST #1 BRIDAL UP WITH THREE WISHES assessment checklist: All materials used are displayed prior to test start. Specified wish texture is evident in finished style. The ornament has not been altered and is visible in the design. All tulle is used and is visible in the design. 8

TEST #2 MEN S CLASSIC SCULPTURED HAIRCUT AND STYLE Time Limit: 1 hour The competitors must create an overall classic (square) shape. The neckline and sides are required to be tapered and graduated. Hair colour will not be changed. No precutting of mannequin. The beard starts 1 below the top of the ear. All beard hair must be removed as short as possible. THESE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE ONLY EXAMPLES OF A MEN S CLASSIC SCULPTURED HAIRCUT AND STYLE. THE COMPETITOR WILL CREATE THEIR OWN DESIGN INTERPRETATIONS. Haircut: The nape/neckline area MUST be tapered to zero at the collar line. The use of all cutting tools is permitted EXCEPT for clippers/trimmers. Finished Style: Only the use of a hand held dryer will be permitted. All other thermal tools are not permitted. The use of all brushes and/or combs are permitted All styling products are permitted. NO coloured spray, gel, mousse or colour markers will be permitted. The mannequin must NOT be dressed with clothing and/or accessories TEST #2 MEN S CLASSIC SCULPTURED HAIRCUT AND STYLE assessment checklist: The mannequin has not been pre-cut, and/or otherwise altered in length and/or density. The mannequin has not been coloured. The beard starts 1 below the top of the ear. Facial hair is removed as short as possible prior to competition day. The nape/neckline area is tapered to zero at the collar line. Clippers and/or trimmers have not been used. Thermal tools other than a hand held dryer have not been used. 9

TEST # 3 SALON CUT - COMMERCIAL (WITH COLOUR ENHANCEMENT) Time limit: 3 hours The Competitor will create an asymmetrical fashion forward salon cut and style with colour enhancement that is consistent with OMC SALON CUT COMMERCIAL. See the OMC website for photographs: https://www.omchairworld.com/images/zz02.pdf Colour: Mannequin may be pre- lightened/bleached (no toner) prior to competition. A minimum of 3 colours must be used and all hair must be coloured during the competition. During the competition all colouring techniques are allowed. The choice of colour is free however, if kit colour is ordered from KAO, it must be used or returned unopened. No colour sprays, gels, mousses or other temporary colouring products are allowed. Competitors must be mindful of staining. No covering of face during colour application is allowed, but barrier cream may be used around the hairline. Haircut: A minimum of 2.54 cm. (1 ) MUST be cut during the competition. No pre-cutting is permitted (altered in length and/or density). The cut and style must be asymmetrical, and consistent with OMC SALON CUT COMMERCIAL. All haircutting tools may be used except clippers or trimmers. Styling: Competitors must style the hair with a blow dryer and brush/comb only. No irons of any kind may be used during test #3. No products containing colour or glitter are allowed. Product bottles that are not Goldwell/KMS must be covered to conceal brand or product identifiers. Wigs, hairpieces, bobby pins, and elastics are forbidden. Set-up of mannequin will be performed within the 3.5-hour allotment for test #3. No embellishment of mannequin (makeup, jewellery or draping) is permitted for test #3.
