A division of CTC Supplies 3845 N. Bremen St. Milwaukee, WI 53212 Dear Fund-Seeker, Thank you for considering for your fundraising needs. We are confident that you will be satisfied with the services we offer. Holding a clothing drive can be a wonderful opportunity to benefit your organization and help the environment. Clothing and household textiles currently make-up 4.67% of the waste stream. The used clothing industry provides lower income people around the world with affordable clothing, repurposes clothing that is damaged as wiping rags, and processes clothing and textiles not suitable for wiping purposes back into fibers that are then remanufactured into paper, yarn, insulation, carpet padding, sound proofing, etc. Textile recycling is the world s oldest form of recycling and is often referred to as the original recycling industry. We would love to provide your organization with this unique, ecological and profitable opportunity. The information enclosed in this packet will help you make the most of our services. It is estimated that only 15% of textile materials are being diverted from the waste stream. That equates to 85% of all used textiles currently end up in the landfills. SMART members, in concert with the charitable industry divert approximately 2.5 billion lbs of waste annually. 17 gallons of water and 66 BTUs of energy are used to create one new cotton shop towel. NO water or energy is needed when creating a recycled cotton wiping rag. Recycling textiles protects the environment from exposure to various harsh chemicals and waste used in the manufacturing vs. recycling process of clothing. The textile recycling industry helps the economy internationally. More than 60% of recovered textiles are sent abroad to more than 250 countries, creating hundreds of thousands of jobs worldwide. Used clothing sales create jobs and affordable apparel in many lesser developed countries.
