2017 FESTIVAL VIDEO

WHAT IS? The first of its kind in Queens, Dance Festival, a New York Times Top Pick of 24 Outdoor Performances to See in the Summer in NYC is a unique cultural offering that takes place at four public parks along the East River waterfront in Queens. Comprised of a two-day dance festival and a month-long community dance workshop, invites neighborhood residents and visitors to discover LIC through dance and strengthen community bonds. All programming is free and open to the public, making the arts accessible to a wide population and encouraging audiences and community members from different backgrounds to engage, create and connect. The art of dance, especially, thrives when it is alive, unbounded, and fully accessible to the public. wholeheartedly infused our local community with the energy and vitality of site-specific dance. Audrey Dimola, Director of Public Programs at Socrates Sculpture Park OUR MISSION s mission is to activate public spaces through dance, spark dialogue and create community through the arts. It is an initiative that aims to strengthen, bridge and celebrate the diverse communities living along the Long Island City waterfront by using dance as a tool for deeper community engagement. Through dance we can connect and inspire people, create a space for dialogue and integration, and contribute to the cultural visibility of Queens.

The performances were a spectacular combination of imagination, art and public space... Dancers took over play spaces, piers, picnic tables, and even the water s edge to give spectators unmatchable performances with the Manhattan skyline as a backdrop. Dance.com
