NO/AIDS Task Force Holds 14th Annual Dining Out For Life Thursday, July 17 On Thursday, July 17, NO/AIDS Task Force is inviting everyone to support a great cause over a great meal for the 14th annual Dining Out For Life fund-raiser. The Task Force has teamed up with over 35 New Orleans area restaurants to raise funds to help men, women and families affected by HIV and AIDS. Stand up against HIV and AIDS by sitting down at one of your favorite restaurants. All you have to do is gather your family and friends for a good meal at one of the participating restaurants, and 25% of your check will go to supporting the services that NO/AIDS Task Force provides. Additionally, by making an extra donation the night of the event, you will be entered into a drawing for a night s stay at the International House Hotel or the W New Orleans - French Quarter. Participating restaurants include popular hot spots, longtime favorites and casual eateries in neighborhoods from Metairie to the Marigny, North Shore to the West Bank, and everywhere in-between. There are long time participants such as Louisiana Pizza Kitchen and La Peniche, and new supporters such as Phil s Grill and The Country Club. There s even the opportunity to catch dinner and a show at Minacapelli s Dinner Playhouse in Slidell which will be participating on Friday, July 18 only. This year, Dining Out For Life is proud to have Ted Allen as spokesperson for the annual event. Food and wine connoisseur on Bravo s hit TV series Queer Eye For The Straight Guy, Allen is currently a judge for Bravo s Top Chef and Food Network s Iron Chef America as well as host of the PBS series Uncorked: Wine Made Simple. Says Allen: I m really privileged to be involved with Dining Out for Life, especially at a time when too many people wrongly believe the HIV/AIDS crisis no longer IS a crisis. New HIV infections are on the rise in a generation of young gay men who weren t around the first time AIDS ravaged our country; meanwhile, heterosexual women of color continue to be the fastest growing population of people with HIV. Dining Out makes it possible for virtually everyone to make a meaningful contribution to the fight against AIDS, while at the same time having fun and supporting restaurants in their community-it s a win/win/win! For More information or the full list of participating restaurants, visit www.noaidsdfl.com or call 504.821.2601 ext 217. NO/AIDS would like to thank the generous sponsors that make Dining Out For Life possible: Abita Beer, RAIN Organics Vodka, Ambush Magazine, Gambit Weekly, NOLA.com, The Times Picayune, Where Y AT Magazine, International House Hotel, W New Orleans - French Quarter. NO/AIDS Task Force, the oldest HIV/ AIDS service organization in the Gulf South, was founded in 1983 in response to the early devastating effects of the AIDS epidemic in the New Orleans area. Over the past twenty five years the agency has created a continuum of supportive services to assist people affected and infected by HIV. Programs include HIV prevention education, a medical clinic, food pantry and meal delivery services, mental health, HIV testing & counseling, housing and medication assistance, among many others. The mission of NO/AIDS Task Force is to reduce the spread of HIV infection, provide services, advocate empowerment, safeguard the rights and dignity of HIVaffected individuals, and provide for an enlightened public. Over the last 13 years, Dining Out For Life has helped raise over $450,000 for the programs and services of NO/AIDS Task Force. Dining Out For Life International is the non-profit organization that runs the annual Dining Out For LifeR event. Dining Out For LifeR is an annual fund-raising event that raises awareness and funding for nonprofit organizations dedicated to the fight against HIV/AIDS. NOMA Presents A Tribute to Cole Pratt This summer, the New Orleans Museum of Art presents A Tribute to Cole Pratt: His Gallery s First 15 Years, 1993-2008, an exhibition of work by 29 artists represented by the influential New Orleans-based gallerist. Pratt passed away unexpectedly on April 19. Cole Pratt was a loyal friend and longtime supporter of the New Orleans Museum of Art, said NOMA director E. John Bullard. This exhibition is our way of recognizing his contributions to the visual arts in Louisiana. Through the artists he supported and encouraged, Cole left a legacy that will endure for centuries in this Museum, as well as in many of this city s finest private collections. Robert Coleman Cole Pratt, Jr. (1955-2008), a native of Mississippi, was well known for the Magazine Street gallery he opened in Uptown New Orleans in 1993. The Cole Pratt Gallery showcased artists from around the world, but built its reputation on those with ties to New Orleans and the South. A Tribute to Cole Pratt: His Gallery s First Fifteen Years, 1993-2008 includes work by Leslie Addison, Wayne Amedee, Randy Asprodites, Lea Barton, James Beaman, Robert Berguson, Barbara Brainard, Andrew Bucci, Marie Bukowski, Denyce Celentano, Aaron Collier, Christine Cozic, Judy Cooper, Susan Downing- White, Carolyn Evans, Miriam Hirsch, Richard Johnson, Robert Lansden, Gary [continued on Main-8] MAIN~6 of 48 AmbushMag.COM July 1-14, 2008 The One & Only Official Southern Decadence Guide SouthernDecadence.COM
