3 Unity College Student Uniform students attending Unity College from Reception to Year 12 are expected to wear the College uniform as stipulated in this guide. A uniform policy reinforces in students a pride in their own appearance, instills recognition of themselves as an integral part of the College community and assists in developing pride in representing the school. To assist with this Unity College has a well-stocked, on site Uniform Shop that carries all the uniform requirements. The Uniform Shop is run by an external company Alinta Australia, is managed by Heather Geue and sells both new and second hand uniform. Alinta Uniform Shop The Alinta Uniform Shop is located in the Administration Building on the Middle/Senior Campus, with entry via the Students Services Office. The Alinta Uniform Shop is open at the following times (during the school term): Monday - Wednesday: 8.30am - 10.30am Thursday: CLOSED Friday: 2.00pm - 3.45pm In addition to these opening hours, the Alinta Uniform Shop provides online shopping, lay-by facilities, appointment bookings, additional opening times in peak periods (eg. school holidays) and the opportunity to open the shop (where practical) for new families enrolling at Unity College. For further information, please contact Unity College. Hat Policy Unity College is a SunSmart School and as such, hats are a compulsory part of the school uniform. Junior School: Students are required to wear sun protective hats that shade the face, neck and ears during recess, lunchtime, excursions and other outdoor activities. Middle/Senior School: students must wear hats at recess and lunch in T1 and T4. Students are not required to wear hats in T2 and T3, but are still required to have their hat at school as there may be occasions when they are required. Sunglasses Unity College acknowledges and adopts suggestions from the SunSmart and Cancer Council guidelines. Like skin, eyes can be damaged by UV, and sunglasses when worn with a broad brimmed hat, can reduce the amount of UV reaching the eyes by up to 98% (compared with a reduction of about 50% for sunglasses alone). Therefore, it is agreed that students may choose to wear sunglasses during recess, lunch or when outdoors in lessons. However students are required to: 1. Wear sunglasses that are closefitting or wraparound style (to reduce the amount of UV reaching the eyes around the edges). 2. Wear a sun protective school bucket hat. 3. Choose frames in black or dark blue colour (in preference to hivis style colours). 4. Not wear sunglasses inside during class. 5. Remove sunglasses and store safely while not in use (as opposed to storing them on top of head).
4 Blazers - Senior School Blazers are to be worn for formal occasions (eg. excursions, school photos, end of year service etc). It is to take priority over the jumper. Blazers should be worn in T2 and T3 as the first preferred item, but for comfort during class time, students may wear their blazer or their jumper, or both garments. During T1 and T4, blazers are optional for everyday use. Formal requirements still apply, however, commonsense rules apply for extremes of weather with regard to excursions for all terms. Blazers are not to be worn with shorts. Accessories 1. Maroon or navy ribbons, bows. 2. Headbands, scrunchies in applicable uniform fabric. 3. Students may wear a single plain gold or silver stud or sleeper in the lower part of the ear lobe(s). This is the only acceptable form of body piercing. 4. Tattoos are not acceptable. 5. A fine chain with a small cross may be worn around the neck. 6. A plain watch can be worn. 7. No other accessories are allowed. 8. No Make-up or nail polish is to be worn in Reception - Year 5. 9. Students are not permitted to wear make-up or nail polish which is obvious and excessive in Years 6-12. 10. Navy full-fingered gloves and scarves are supplied by the Uniform Shop. Cream scarves are also acceptable. Hair Policy 1. Hair should be neatly styled, kept clean and should be of reasonable length. 2. Hair should be kept out of the face. 3. No artificial hair colour should be evident. 4. No shaven heads. 5. Hair below shoulder-length should be tied back at all times on Junior and Middle/Senior Campus (male and female students). 6. Hair styles that are extreme or naturally attract attention by their nature are not acceptable. Additional Information 1. Dresses: The dress length for or uniform is to be to the knee as a minimum requirement. 2. Jumpers Poly/Cotton: Cotton acrylic jumpers are available for children with allergies to wool. These may need to be ordered so please advise the Unity Shop Manager of your requirements. 3. Socks: Navy socks are to be worn with boys formal uniform and the girls winter dress pants. 4. School Shoes: Black shoes are to be worn (see Student Uniform Guide for specific information). Please note that Doc Marten shoes are available with black stitching. 5. Art Smock / Communication Bag: Reception - Year 5 students require an Art Smock and a College Communication Bag. 6. School Bags: The College has three styles of compulsory monogrammed College school bags available. 7. Specially made items and cotton acrylic jumpers have a production time of 10 weeks. Please be mindful of this when ordering.
