THE BEST OF PARISIAN STYLE From classic monochromes to sheer indulgence, here are some of the hottest trends from the ongoing Paris Fashion Week. Monochrome Palette At Pascal Millet, grey tailoring and monochrome summer dresses were brightened up with metallics, and colourful silk stripes, as well as a semi-sheer organza. Quirky, Kitsch Accessories Vibrant enamel jewellery inspired by nature, stole the show that designer Manish Arora said was a tribute to Josephine Baker in the Delirium. The quirky prints, a Malhotra trademark, with flashes of neon, set the tone for the day. Digital Prints Bright florals and patch-worked futuristic digital print dominated the runway at Ground Zero. Philip and Eric Chu s colourblocked peep-toe boots worked well. Snakeskin Touch Marcel Marongiu showed plenty of python accessories and snakeskin finishes, alongside geometrical prints, tiered layers of optical fibre fringing, and patchworked leathers. Barbed Wires and Florals The central motif of Dries Van Noten s show was a vicious barbed wire print, which came accompanied with girly ruffles. Dark, romantic florals, tassels and embroidery completed the picture. Chitrangda Singh has proved that she's Bollywood's next 'it' girl as she attended the Christian Dior's Fall/Winter 2013-2014 at the Paris Fashion Week. Anew study has suggested that lifestyle advice for people suffering from diabetes should not be different from that given to the general public, although those having diabetes may benefit more from the same advice. In this new study, Dr Diewertje Sluik, Department of Epidemiology, German Institute of Human Nutrition Potsdam- Rehbruecke, Nuthetal, Germany, and colleagues investigated whether the associations between lifestyle factors and mortality risk differ between individuals with and without diabetes. Computer modelling was used to explore the relationship (in both those with and without diabetes) of mortality with the following risk factors: body-mass index, waist/ height ratio, 26 food groups, alcohol consumption, leisure-time physical activity, smoking. Unsurprisingly, the researchers found that overall mortality was 62 per cent higher in people with diabetes compared with those without. Intake of fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, pasta, poultry and vegetable oil was related to a lower mortality risk, and intake of butter and margarine was related to an increased mortality risk. While the strength of the association was different in those with diabetes versus those without, the associations were in the same direction in each case. No differences between people with and without diabetes were detected for the other lifestyle factors including adiposity, alcohol consumption, physical activity, and smoking. The new research has been published in Diabetologia. Famous people living with diabetes Sonam Kapoor Anil Kapoor s daughter has struggled with diabetes from her teenage years. She has followed a strict diet regime with daily insulin to stay healthy. FOR BEST DEALS AND INFORMATION SEE PAGE 36

TUESDAY, OCTOBER AUGUST 28, 15, 2012 2013 auto MidWeek 27
28 MidWeek TUESDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2013 Expired, Why some houses don't sell? 4 Important points, That will get your house sold! It your home has just come off the market and hasn't sold, don't be discouraged. The reason it didn't sell may have nothing to do with your home or the market. In reality, your home may have one of the more desirable properties for sale. If your listing has expired and you still want results, before you put your home back on the market, take a step back and review your situation. Q Where should you begin? A. Start by making a commitment to do what it takes to market your house to get it sold. With the right system, the home sale you want is still well within reach. Q. Why didn't your home sell? A. Review your previous selling plan and you'll discover that an expired listing usually reflects a problem in one or more of these four major areas: 1. Teamwork, 2. Pricing, 3. Condition of Your Home, and 4. Marketing. 1 TEAMWORK Your home is a major financial investment, and your relationship with your Realtor should be a full partnership where your needs and wishes are heard, and you receive detailed and dependable feedback on the progress of your sale. Your agent has a responsibility to source this feedback from the agents who have shown your home, and to communicate this to you so together you can make the right to you so together you can make the right decisions about what to do next. How well did this occur the last time you had your home up for sale? 2 PRICING Did price work for or against you? The "right" price depends on market conditions, competition and the condition of your home. Pricing it too high is as dangerous as pricing it too low. If your home doesn't compare favorably with others in the price range you've set, you won't be taken seriously by prospects or agents. You'll get the facts when you see the statistics! To help you to establish a realistic selling price for your home, ask your agent to provide you with an up-to-date competitive market analysis to give your: - a review of comparable homes recently sold or currently for sale. - An idea of how long other homes have been listed, in order to calculate an average time in which a home can sell in today's market, - A review of homes whose listings where at play. Note : There is no mention of how much you paid for your home or its improvements. Like and other investment, the market value is determined by what a willing buyer will pay and a willing seller will accept. 3 CONDITION OF YOUR HOME SHOW CASE QUALITY! Is your house someone else's idea of a dream home? When buyer enter are they inspired? Do they think, " I love this house!" Remember, the decision to buy a home is based on emotion, not logic. A house in move-in condition invites a sale. You need to consider: - Fixing all the little squeaks and cracks - Keeping it clean for all showings -making it uncluttered -brightening it up -what your home shows like from the street concentrating on outside curb appeal. Plus-Consider taking care of major items, such having your home painted. Offering an allowance to you prospective buyers, so they can have painting completed is not the same as having done it for them. Now, as they're trying to imagine what that new paint job will look like, they may also be discounting the price even further because of the lessthan-perfect look of those walls. Remember A house the presents well, sells for the best price because it outshines the competition. Ask your agent if they can arrange a no-obligation inspection of your home to help you assess the above. 4 MARKETING.Marketing your home to sell! Some questions you should be asking! One of the first steps in your marketing plan involves finding an agent who will best represent you. When interviewing agents, test and compare their knowledge and ask reach to demonstrate how they will market your home to buyers. Compare, too, how much money each spends on advertising the homes he lists, in what media (newspaper, magazine, etc.) and the effectiveness of one medium over the other. Remember, it's not just how much they spend, but how they spend it. Say goodbye to any real estate agents using old, traditional methods to sell your home because they don't work in today's market! To be competitive in today's marketplace, agents who use new and innovative, nontraditional marketing approaches are the ones who are getting more homes sold fast and for top dollar. BUYERS ARE OUR THERE.AND THEY WILL COME! 1. Effective communication is vital between you and your agent. 2. Price your home according to market conditions, competition and the condition of your house. 3. Be sure your house is in showcase, buyer readycondition. 4. Have an innovative marketing plan firmly set in place. DISCLAIMER: "Not intended to solicit property currently listed for sale" For more information call:

TUESDAY, OCTOBER AUGUST 28, 15, 2012 2013 MidWeek 31 fashion FLAUNT YOUR FEET IN SEXY HIGH HEELS! How to wear your jewellery stylishly Just putting on a fabulous dress and loads of make-up isn't enough if you want to look like a thorough fashionista. You have to accessorise your outfit the right way too, if you want to enhance your overall appearance. We show you tips on how to wear your jewellery tastefully. Layer your neckpieces i.e. wear more than one necklace at a time. See to it that they are of different lengths and in various colours. If you want a more sophisticated look, layer different kinds of pearl strings. For a more casual look, wear different kinds of chains together. If you're wearing a statement ring that is a huge ring don't make the mistake of wearing other rings along with it. If you really want to wear more than one ring, make sure at least the styles or stones match and wear them on different hands. Be creative when it comes to wearing jewellery. If you have a big, pretty looking ring, instead of wearing it on your finger, slip a chain around it and wear it in your neck, just like a pendant! Another instance is of transforming a long chain into a bracelet around your wrists. You could double it or knot it many times and turn it into a hand accessory. You can also mix accessories made in different metals together! For example, if you have bangles in different types of metals, wear them in one go. No Catwalk Show For Alexander McQueen This Season ALEXANDER MCQUEEN will not hold an autumn/winter 2013-14 catwalk show this coming season - opting instead for an intimate presentation. Creative director Sarah Burton, who is currently heavily pregnant with twins, will be on maternity leave during Paris Fashion Week - and will remain in her hometown of London. The brand will hold a small private presentation for around 100 editors at a central Paris location in the afternoon of March 5. Commercial appointments will be scheduled for later that evening. A spokesperson for the label confirmed that Burton plans to reclaim McQueen's traditional Paris Fashion Week evening show slot for spring/summer 2014. Vauxhall Fashion Scout Relaunches VAUXHALL FASHION SCOUT has relaunched itself as Fashion Scout. The fashion design talent scheme also plans to expand its London-based initiative internationally - with new showcases in China, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Asia. This season, the design platform will introduce new international names - including Chinese designer Yifang Wan, who will debut her autumn/ winter 2013-14 show under the Fashion Scout Merit Award initiative. Other plans for growth include a partnership with talent scheme Kiev Fashion Days, in which Ukraine designers will form part of a collective catwalk showcase; and a new show in Istanbul, showing the city's most exciting emerging fashion names. Indian men's fashion catching up Fashion in India is headed in a new direction - the male closet. The market is at a nascent state and dominated by traditional wear like sherwanis and bandhgalas, but it is growing very fast, say designers. Not many Indian men know about slim fits, double cuffs and flat front trousers yet, but they are getting there. "I think the Indian menswear market is far behind women's wear. It is going to take time, but if we compare it to the last fiveseven years, men's fashion market has grown very fast. Guys are much more fashionconscious now and want to look more presentable," designer Sanjay Hingu, who specialises in men's wear, said. Mumbai-based designer Nachiket Barve, who designs for both men and women, feels the "fashion market for men is evolving but it is still in a transitory phase". Surprisingly, India is the fourth destination in the world that hosts a men's fashion week - Van Heusen India Men's Week (VHIMW) and this clearly points to the growing market for men's wear. Fashion trends that'll continue to rock in 2013 2012 saw a host of new trends making their way onto the fashion scene. We spoke to experts to find out which of them will remain strong this year too From shimmering sequins and organic fabrics, to carrying off western wear with elan, the year 2012 saw a plethora of trends dominate the fashion scene. We spoke to designers Michelle Salins, Rehane, Farah Khan Ali and Jattin Kochhar about trends that are likely to remain in fashion. - Purple is the new black. From Keira Knightley and Victoria Beckham to Deepika Padukone and Kangana Ranaut everyone showed different ways to carry off a purple outfit. - Sequins were a big trend in the party season, be it on dresses or tops. They not only look good on short and chic dresses, but can also be used as a separate accessory by themselves. Opt for colours such as bronze, gold or black. - White is a favourite during the summer and will continue to rock in Spring-Summer 2013 too. Shades of aqua, a muted shade of tangerine and Victorian rose, which had a quiet presence in 2012, will make it big this year. - Obi belts are something that a lot of designers have been using and it is a trend that will stay on for a long time. They can be teamed with pretty much anything, whether it is a kurta, dress or even a T- shirt. - Eco-friendly outfits made an entry in 2012. The year 2013 will continue to see more organic fabrics that will make inroads into kids wear as well. - Bright colours will be in. If you have a bright-coloured jute bag, team it with black. - Women weren't that obsessed with heels last year, as several of them opted for funky and stylized flats. The trend will continue this year too. - Statement neckpieces are something that will take some time to go out of vogue. Just team them with something plain and you are good to go. - Fashion from the 1980s will continue to dominate the fashion scene, from weird hairdos and funky jackets to padded shoulder wear. - Long maxis made quite a splash in 2012. This year too, the maxis will go through a revival with an interesting mix of colours. - Neon-coloured clutches are the best for the party season. Pair them with plain-coloured outfits. Flaunt your Feet in Sexy High Heels! High heels. Enough said. The word says it all. A girl can never have enough of these beauties to enliven her life; it s the high heel shoes rather than the diamonds that are indeed a girl s best friend, or so I like to believe. Self confidence comes with the perfect pair of stilettos. Stilettos are high heel shoes on women that are thinner than spiker heels. They are the standard against which all high heel fashion trends are measured. A woman s wardrobe is incomplete without having the perfect pair of stilettos to flaunt her feet in. The best thing about high heel shoes is that they make your feet look sexier and miraculous. Another type of high heels is platform shoes. They are shoes, boots or sandals with thick soles at least four inches in height. Platform shoes are also available in wooden heel and are known as clogs.
