Welcome The International Wheelset Congress is among e most influential and attractive worldwide conference in e railway sector. The Congress, which is held every ree years in different Countries in e five Continents, is owned and managed by UNIFE (Union of European Railway Industries) on behalf of ERWA (European Railway Wheels Association). The first edition of e Congress was held in Italy in 1963 and, since en, it traveled across e world wi successful editions. Following e last remarkable edition in China, e Congress will be back in Europe and Lucchini RS is proud to host it again from e 16 to 20 of in Venice, one of e most beautiful cities in e world. The location of e conference will be e historical building complex owned by e Fondazione Giorgio Cini on San Gior-gio Maggiore Island. The Fondazione Giorgio Cini The Fondazione Giorgio Cini is a non-profit cultural institution. Located on e Island of San Giorgio Maggiore, at only two minutes by vaporetto from Piazza San Marco. The foundation was constituted in 1951 by Vittorio Cini, in memory of his son Giorgio, wi e aim of restoring e Island of San Giorgio Maggiore - devastated after 150 years of military occupation - and of creating an international cultural centre at would re-integrate e Island into e life of Venice. This mission is pursued rough e activities of its institutes for advanced studies and its research centres, all focused on e study of all aspects of Venetian culture. Monumental architecture Unique in its kind, e ex Benedictine Monastery of San Giorgio Maggiore is an historical site of great architectural and artistic prestige, anks to e presence of works by e greatest 16 and 17-century Italian Masters. The oldest section of e monumental complex (which constitutes a great part of e Fondazione) dates back to e beginning of 1500 and features e Manica Lunga, which used to be dormitory to e Benedictine monks, and e Cypress Cloister, bo splendid examples of Renaissance architecture by Giovanni and Andrea Buora. The second relevant intervention on e architecture of San Giorgio Maggiore was by Andrea Palladio, who worked on e Island from 1560 on, building e actual Church of San Giorgio, e Palladian Cloister, completed after his dea, and e Cenacolo Palladiano (e magnificent refectory, restored in 2012, considered e most remarkable room in terms of architectural history) where Paolo Veronese painted The Wedding at Cana, an artwork recently returned - in a facsimile - to its original location. Baldassarre Longhena completed e majestic monumental complex wi two Baroque interventions: e grand stairca-se, which gave access to e abbots' lodging, completed in 1645, and e Library completed in 1671, which occupies e entire leng of e upper wing shared by e two cloisters. Its magnificent wooden bookcases were designed by Baldas-sarre Longhena and carved by Franz Pauc. Venue
