It is not just the sparkling shows that guarantee a fantastic experience for younger audiences and their families, but your whole experience from the minute you set off. With plenty of accessible parking close by, good public transport links and family-friendly facilities upon arrival, everything is in place to make your visit a breeze. Magical scenery, hilarious heroes and heroines, and spellbinding musical scores are brought to ARC by the country s finest and in some cases award-winning children s theatre companies, who put younger audiences at the heart of everything they do. Children under 18 months are granted free entry to all 3+ family shows and groups of four can benefit from a discounted ticket price. Everyone can enjoy a pre or post-show lunch and an ice cream together in ARC s cafe bar No 60, which offers a range of children s meals and high chairs, as well as bottle warming and a Breast Feeding Friendly policy for the very young audience members. The entertainment needn t stop after the show, with fun activities and merchandise available for selected performances.
We also offer relaxed performances for children and families with additional access requirements. Wriggle Dance Theatre present: The Colour of Me Sat 28 Jan / 11.30am & 2.30pm / Age 3-7yrs Can you feel the excitement of the deep blue sea, the green peacefulness of nature, or can you bravely go where no child has ever been inside an orange? But do watch out for red, who is sometimes very cross... Come and experience the beautiful rainbow of emotions that lives inside each and every one of us. With live music and projection this interactive dance theatre performance promises to delight, tickle and inspire young audiences. approx. 50mins Compagnie Animotion present: The Musicians of Bremen Fri 17 & Sat 18 Feb / 11.30am & 2.30pm / Age 3-7yrs This visually stunning adaptation of Grimm s The Musicians of Bremen tells the tale of four animals who are dismissed by their master for being too old to work, but together, the donkey, cat, cockerel and dog head out on a life changing journey. A musical adventure using puppetry, movement and trapeze which explores that despite differences, we are never too old to make new friends or follow our dreams. The performance on Fri 17 Feb at 2.30pm will be a relaxed performance. Commissioned by ARC and The Civic, Barnsley.
approx. 35mins plus meet the puppets Kitchen Zoo present: The Owl and The Pussycat Sat 11 Mar / 11.30am & 2.30pm / Age 3-7yrs The Owl and the Pussycat live in a dull and dusty world, so imagine how shocked and surprised they are when a stupendous storm sweeps them out of the window with a great splash, and on to an unexpected sea voyage to a curious land. But who will they meet? Which way should they go? And, what is a runcible spoon? A joyful journey for energetic little explorers and their parents. Developed in partnership with ARC and The Witham. approx. 50mins Theatre sans Frontieres present: Heaven Eyes Sat 18 Mar / 2.30pm / Age 8+ Three youngsters run away from their children s home and sail down the River Tyne on a makeshift raft. Stuck on the mudflats, they meet a strange girl who lives with an old man, Grampa. The girl has a secret only Grampa knows and he is not telling. Adapted for the stage by internationally acclaimed children s author David Almond (Skellig). Mysterious, heart-breaking and humorous in equal measure, this story will touch the depth of your soul. Almond s eerie tale is an astonishing piece of writing. The Guardian
approx. 1hr 25mins Creative Scene present: Dough! Sat 25 Mar / 11.30am & 2.30pm / Age 3+ Jess is in a mess, a very doughy mess. Unable to resolve the chaos in her kitchen, she has to make a journey to an unfamiliar place to get help. Everything tastes, smells, looks and feels different there. Dough! tells a story of how beautiful and delicious things can be when we are all open to mixing what we know with what we don t. 50mins followed by a stay and play session Nearly There Yet presents: The Party Sat 8 Apr / 11.30am & 2.30pm / Age 3+ A man excitedly waits for the guests to arrive at his party. The cake is made, the presents are there, and music is playing - all he needs now are his friends to make it the best birthday ever. Soon enough some unexpected guests arrive including a French cyclist, a man dressed as a giant chicken and a mysterious stranger who has never had a birthday. A fantastically engaging and endlessly entertaining topsy-turvy show, and there is even a pass the parcel game to join in with. Tessa Bide presents: A Strange New Space Sat 13 May / 11.30am & 2.30pm / Age 3-7yrs Did you know that astronauts get taller in space? That our solar system is around 4.6 billion years old? Amira knows all of these things. She is obsessed with space and every night dreams of becoming an astronaut. But one night the bangs, whooshes and fizzes of her imagination explode right out of her dreams, becoming a deafening reality. In the darkness, Amira s mother tells her that they must leave their hometown to go on an adventure together, to find a new home: a safe space. Tessa Bide understands children in a way that can t be taught. Children s Theatre Reviews approx. 45mins Spark Arts, Big Imaginations and Turned On Its Head present: Sponge Sat 20 May / 11.30am & 2.30pm / Age 4mths - 4yrs Roll, squeeze and pop through this new interactive new show that is set to funky 1970s-influenced music, and get hands on with some squishy, squashy materials that will fascinate children and adults alike. Sponge is about all things that are spongy, just like a child s incredible ability to soak information up. Everything in Sponge can be made with simple materials so there is plenty more fun to be had at home. approx. 50mins
Half Moon presents a Floods of Ink production: The Girl and The Giraffe Fri 2 & Sat 3 Jun / 11.30am & 2.30pm / Age 3-6yrs One day whilst Girl is playing in her garden, she spots something peculiar on the other side of the fence and is surprised when she comes face to face with... Giraffe! As their friendship grows, Girl discovers that Giraffe isn t very well and she soon realises that sometimes we need a different kind of help for the things you can t always see. Charming puppetry, an enchanting soundscape and beautiful storytelling.
