PAUL WILD CELEBRATES THE GODDESS IN EVERY WOMAN Every woman should feel like a goddess and every goddess has her own unique qualities, talents and strengths to celebrate, says CEO Markus Paul Wild. What was empowering to us in selecting this theme was to create designs that were graceful yet bold, that explore different shades and shapes in gemstones like tanzanite, emerald, and various tourmalines and spinels. The magnetic energy of passion and purpose that is the goddess in every woman draws people in. That is what we strive to inspire in our colourful gemstone layouts. Colour continues to be a key influencer of fashion trends for spring 2018. For the first time in the 23 years since Pantone began identifying its top 10 hues, the Pantone Color Institute announced 16 colours for the season, which Wild says bodes well for the colour variations and combinations it inspires for gemstone jewellery designers. 04

INTENSE LUMINESCENCE SEEING RED Dramatic, warm and eye catching, red is the colour of passion, desire, romance and love. Emotional and intense, red is energising and motivates us to action. It increases the pulse and heart rate and boosts metabolism. Forming the outer arc of the rainbow, red signifies a pioneering spirit, inspiring courage and strength. Envisioning images of jewels befitting the goddess of love and passion, Aphrodite, Paul Wild has created layouts featuring red and pink spinels from Tanzania. Most notable is a set of nine heart-shaped red spinels totalling more than 112 carats; a flower-inspired earring layout with 80 mauve spinels weighing over 21 carats with two tanzanites totalling 9.78 carats; and two single red spinels: a 17.15-carat marquise-cut spinel and 11.67-carat heart-shaped spinel. Spinel has an immense range of shades, from purple to violet and mauve to pure red, explains Markus Wild, who notes that spinels in sizes over 5 carats are rare on the market. We have single stones and sets in captivating red, but also layouts in the softer shades of violet and mauve. We love spinel because of its intense luminescence. Blue is the colour of the sea and the sky. It is associated with open spaces, freedom, imagination and inspiration. Blue represents trust, loyalty, wisdom, stability, truth and faith. The colour blue is fundamentally important to the human eye as a stable icon of the balance in our universe. Even in an uncertain world, we remember that the blue skies represent constancy, as they ve never fallen! Summoning images of jewels befitting Amphitrite, goddess of the sea, Paul Wild has created stunning tanzanite layouts in colours from cool lilac blue to deep violet blue and in a mix of shapes. One of the most notable storyboards in this colour is an outstanding 31-piece necklace, earring and ring suite of natural tanzanite totalling nearly 252 carats. Equally tantalising is a four-row tanzanite and rubellite wave bracelet layout composed of 78 pieces totalling nearly 144 carats; tanzanite and red spinel chandelier earrings totalling 51 carats; and an 82-carat cushion-cut tanzanite cabochon that awaits to be transformed into a magical creation. Sapphire is limited in big sizes and in quantity for layouts. In this case, tanzanite is the winner, says Markus Wild.
