3 WHIPPED SHEA BUTTER WHIPPED SHEA BUTTER 80% refined shea butter 19% oil of choice 1% fragrance or essential oil Weigh the ingredients into a container, then mix with a hand mixer using one beater or whisk attachment. When it seems to have increased in volume by 50%, put into a jar, label, and enjoy! I like to use a piping bag with a 1M piping tip to make it look like cupcake icing. This product can be packaged in a plastic, glass, or metal jar as it contains no water. A 100 gram batch will measure about 120 ml to 150 ml in volume, so you will want to use a 120 ml (4 ounce) container. If you wanted to use a 200 ml clear glass jar with silver lid to display your whipped butter in an extra special way, make approximately 150 grams.
4 CREATING AN ORGANIC WHIPPED SHEA BUTTER If you wanted to make an organic version of this, you could use shea butter refined- organic or shea butter unrefined - organic with an organic oil like evening primrose, camellia seed, or sunflower oil high oleic, and fragrance it with an organic essential oil like lavender, sweet orange, lemon, or peppermint at 0.5% to 1%. You could use organic hemp seed oil, but please note that the end product will have a darker appearance. If you want to use tamanu oil, it will also have that darker appearance. If you use shea butter unrefined organic, you may need to melt it slightly before whipping. You can do this by placing it in a double boiler and letting it melt until it s softer. Or you can melt it until it s liquid, add the oil of choice, then place in the fridge or freezer until it starts to solidify. Add the fragrance or essential oil, and mix util it seems to have increased in volume by 50%, put in a jar, label, and enjoy! CREATING A WHIPPED BUTTER SCRUB If you want to turn this into a scrub, you can include exfoliating ingredients like sugar, salt, seeds, or jojoba beads. For a body scrub, try adding 50 grams of exfoliant for every 100 grams of whipped butter, and increase it by 10 grams at a time until you reach a level you like. I like to add 100 grams of fine berry sugar or fine sea salt to 100 grams of whipped butter. COLOURING As this is an anhydrous or non-water containing product, you can t use water soluble colouring, like LabColours, but you can add all kinds of micas, glitters, and neon colours. Add a little bit, mix it, put a titch on your skin to make sure you won t be too sparkly or pink, then add a bit more if you want. CREATING A LESS GREASY VERSION We can incorporate Dry-Flo TS (INCI: Modified tapioca starch) to make a whipped butter feel less greasy at up to 5% added while whipping.
5 WHIPPED SHEA BUTTER WITH DRY-FLO TS 75% refined shea butter 19% oil of choice 1% fragrance or essential oil AFTER WHIPPING FOR A BIT 5% Dry-Flo TS Weigh the ingredients into a container, then mix with a hand mixer using one beater or whisk attachment. Slowly sift the Dry-Flo TS into the container as you mix. When it seems to have increased in volume by 50%, put into a jar, label, and enjoy! I like to use a piping bag with a 1M piping tip to make it look like cupcake icing. Here are a few thoughts about fragrances and colours For fragrances and colours, here are a few of my favourites Yuzu fragrance oil with buttercup yellow mica for the whipped shea butter Vanilla bean marshmallow with white matte mica for whipped shea butter White grapefruit essential oil or lemon grass essential oil for the organic version Peppermint essential oil for a whipped shea butter for the feet Vanilla mint with an iridescent violet mica for the whipped shea butter with Dry-Flo
6 CREATING AN EXFOLIATING FOAMING BATH WHIP SCRUB This wonderful, whippy bubbly and lathery product can be used straight from the container, but why would you miss out on the opportunity to whip it with a great fragrance or essential oil and some lovely exfoliant, like jojoba beads? It can increase up to four times in volume when we whip it, so 100 grams could make more than 4 120 ml jars when we ve added all the extras! Please note: Jojoba beads are not plastic microbeads. As the name indicates, they re made from jojoba oil. VANILLA OAK 2-IN-1 SHAVING CREAM & BODY WASH 99% foaming bath whip 1% fragrance or essential oil
7 Measure all the ingredients into a much larger container. Whip with the hand mixer for 3 to 5 minutes until it has at least doubled in size. Package and add a label with an awesome name and description of how to use it. You can use it as a scrub by adding a little extra oil no more than 5% of something like fractionated coconut, hazelnut, pumpkin seed, or other lovely oil to the mix with up to 50% sugar or salt, or another exfoliant like jojoba beads, pumice (great for feet), or various seeds. MOISTURIZING & EXFOLIATING VANILLA BEAN MARSHMALLOW FOAMING BATH WHIP WITH JOJOBA BEADS WHIPPED PHASE 79% foaming bath whip 5% fractionated coconut oil 1% fragrance or essential oil EXFOLIATION PHASE 15% jojoba beads Optional: To colour, you could use liquid colours or micas as this is a water soluble product. Add a few drops, whip, add a few more if you want more colour, and so on. Measure all the ingredients into a much larger container. Whip with the hand mixer with beaters or a whisk attachment for 3 to 5 minutes until it has at least doubled in size. Add the jojoba beads and mix until they re incorporated, which should only take a few seconds. Package and add a label with an awesome name and description of how to use it. TINGLY, SCRUBBY, MINTY FOOT SCRUB WITH PUMICE & JOJOBA BEADS WHIPPED PHASE 79% foaming bath whip 5% avocado or olive oil 1% peppermint essential oil EXFOLIATION PHASE 10% pumice
8 5% green jojoba beads Optional: A titch of light green mica or a few drops green or blue LabColours Measure all the ingredients into a much larger container. Whip with the hand mixer with beaters or a whisk attachment for 3 to 5 minutes until it has at least doubled in size. Add the jojoba beads and mix until they re incorporated, which should only take a few seconds. Package and add a label with an awesome name and description of how to use it. As this is a lathery product, please note that we shouldn t stand up in the bath or shower with this product on our feet as it is very slippery. When seated, apply to feet, massage to get all that lovely exfoliating action, then rinse well before standing.
SUPER MOISTURIZING LIP SCRUB 9 We re making a small batch of this lip scrub as a little goes a long way. I like to use oils that don t have any flavour, like fractionated coconut oil or jojoba oil, because we want to taste the flavour oil not the fresh taste of olives. Also consider the smell of the oil as it ll be under your nose for a bit, which means oils that may have an earthy or strong odour may not be the best choice, so think carefully before using something like hempseed, tamanu, borage, or neem oil. I don t suggest using castor oil for this formula as it is a laxative, and although we aren t using a lot of the scrub on our lips, let s not take any chances, eh? For the oils, you can use all of one oil or 10% of this, 10% of that, and 11% of another if you wish. If you don t have berry sugar, put your sugar into a coffee grinder and blend for maybe 10 seconds to produce a fine sugar. You don t want to grind it too long as you ll end up with powdered sugar, which won t scrub that well. (Ask me how I know this!)
10 ALL NATURAL, MOISTURIZING LIP SCRUB 68% berry or finely ground sugar 31% fractionated coconut oil or jojoba oil, golden or clear 1% lip balm flavouring Into a small cup, weigh your fractionated coconut oil and lip balm flavouring and mix well. Add the sugar, mix until it is like wet sand, then spoon into your container. If you wanted to make an organic version of this lip scrub, you could an organic oil like evening primrose, camellia seed, or sunflower oil high oleic, and add a titch of an organic essential oil like sweet orange, lemon, or peppermint at no more than 0.3% or 0.3 grams in 100 grams. ORGANIC MOISTURIZING LIP SCRUB 68.7% berry or finely ground sugar 31% organic oil of choice 0.3% organic essential oil - sweet orange, lemon, or peppermint Into a small cup, weigh your fractionated coconut oil and lip balm flavouring and mix well. Add the sugar, mix until it is like wet sand, then spoon into your container. Package this in a small container I m using 30 ml jars from Voyageur Soap & Candle and use a small spatula* or spoon to remove it from the container to put on your lips. Your label for this product will be far too small to have much information, but you could include a card that states something like this, Using a small spoon or spatula, remove scrub from the container and put on your lips. Massage for 10 to 30 seconds, then lick it off your lips and enjoy awesome moisturizing all day long!
A SHORT SHOPPING LIST FOR CONTAINERS AT VOYAGEUR SOAP & CANDLE 11 I like the 1 ounce clear thick wall jar with black or white gloss cap for my lip balm scrubs, and I use a clear or white boomerang spatula or a small black or white spatula to remove it from the container. Using something to remove it from the jar means I don t have to include a preservative.
