National Costume in Aukštaitija
Aukštaitija Aukštaitija (literally: High Land) is an ethnographic region in the Northeast Lithuania. St. Joseph wooden Catholic church of Kėdainiai. Augustinas Žemaitis.
Men s clothes Men s clothes were modest. They wore grey, brown or black woolen longwaisted coats and trousers. Linen shirts were white. Men wore hats and ornamented blue, green, red, orange and yellow woven sashes. A neckerchief was worn on the neck. They wore black boots.
Women s clothes Women wore long linen white shirts with red ornaments. Skirts were wide and long. Woolen skirts were green, red, yellow and purple. Linen skirts were white with a red border. It was improper for a woman to appear in public without an apron. Aprons were made of white linen and decorated with red and blue ornamental stripes at the bottom. Women wore yellow, green or blue woolen vests.
Women's shoes were made out of home-treated leather. People wore hand-knit linen (for summer) and woolen (for winter) stockings or footcloths. Women wore crowns made of ribbons, laces and beads. Married women wore a white wimple. It was very important to have a wool scarf. Women also wore colourful woven sashes. A woman with a wimple.
