JASON VASS PRESENTS EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE A GROUP EXHIBITION BY SHEREE ROSE, RHIANNON AARONS, MARTIN O BRIEN, JEFFREY VALLANCE, VICTORIA REYNOLDS, SIMONE GAD & MICHEL DELSOL OPENING RECEPTION SATURDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2017 6-9PM. Left to right: Sheree Rose, Rhiannon Aarons, Sheree Rose, Jeffrey Vallance, Simone Gad, Michael Delsol, Victoria Reynolds October 26, 2017, Los Angeles, CA., Jason Vass 1452 E. Sixth Street, Los Angeles, CA 90021 is pleased to present Every Breath You Take - a group exhibition of works by the artists Sheree Rose, Rhiannon Aarons, Martin O Brien, Jeffrey Vallance, Victoria Reynolds, Simone Gad and Michel Delsol. Every Breath You Take will run from December 2 - December 30, 2017.

The work created for Every Breath You Take investigates issues of voyeurism, creativity and recontextualization. This body of work contains a combination of performance relics from Bob Flanagan inspired collaborations between Sheree Rose, Martin O Brien, Rhiannon Aarons, Simone Gad, Jeffrey Vallance, Victoria Reynolds, Michel Delsol and other artists over the last two years. This exhibition includes documentation and relics from Sheree and Bob s collaborations as well as more recent elements from The Viewing and Philosophy in the Bedroom - two major 24 hour collaborations produced by Rose, Aarons, and O Brien during 2016.. Clockwise from top left: Sheree Rose, Jeffrey Vallance, Simone Gad, Rhiannon Aarons, Michael Delsol, Sheree Rose, Victoria Reynolds About Sheree Rose Sheree Rose is an American photographer and performance artist. Her photographs documented the BDSM and queer subcultures in Los Angeles during the early 1980s. With her partner and creative collaborator, performance artist Bob Flanagan, they explored sexuality, BDSM, death, and daily living with terminal illness. Rose and Flanagan's collected archives are maintained at the ONE National Gay & Lesbian Archives at the University of Southern California Libraries.

About Rhiannon Aarons Rhiannon Aarons is a Los Angeles based artist, writer, and cultural producer whose practice heavily interrogates issues of legacy, appropriation, social stigma, female sexuality, and information transmission. Born and raised in California, she received a B.F.A. from Otis and an M.F.A. from CSULB. She is a recipient of The Marilyn Werby Endowment Grant, HOGAR Travel Grant, and organizer of Live Art Development Association s Methodologies in Body Art Symposium. In addition to her series of self-published books, her work has been included in Senses of Cinema, RipRap Literary Journal, and Culture on the Offensive. Rhiannon has recently exhibited at Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions, Bluecoat, University Art Museum, The Tom of Finland Foundation, and The Situation Room. She has given lectures about art and BDSM practices at CalArts and The Marlborough Theatre, and is frequently featured on The Dr. Susan Block Show. She is presently co-editing Bob Flanagan s The Book of Medicine with Sheree Rose. About Martin O Brien Martin O Brien s work considers existence with a severe chronic illness within our contemporary situation. Martin suffers from cystic fibrosis and his practice uses physical endurance, hardship and pain based practices to challenge common representations of illness and examine what it means to be born with a life threatening disease. His work is an act of resistance to illness, an attempt at claiming agency and a celebration of his body. About Jeffrey Vallance Jeffrey Vallance was born in 1955 in Redondo Beach, CA. In 1979, he received a B.A. from CSUN and in 1981 an M.F.A. from Otis. He lives and works in Los Angeles. His work blurs the lines between object making, installation, performance, curating and writing. Critics have described his work as an indefinable cross-pollination of many disciplines. Often his projects are site-specific such as burying a frozen chicken at a pet cemetery; traveling to Polynesia to research the myth of Tiki; having audiences with the king of Tonga, the queen and president of Palau and the presidents of Iceland; creating a Richard Nixon Museum; traveling to the Vatican to study Christian relics; installing an exhibit aboard a tugboat in Sweden; curating shows in the fabulous museums of Las Vegas, such as the Liberace and Clown Museum. In Lapland Vallance constructed a shamanic magic drum, In Orange County, Mr. Vallance curated the only art world exhibition of the Painter of Light entitled Thomas Kinkade: Heaven on Earth. In 1983, he was host of MTV s The Cutting Edge and appeared on NBC s Late Night with David Letterman. In 2004, Vallance received the prestigious John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation award. For Every Breath You Take, Vallance is creating reliquaries (boxes originally intended to hold relics of saints) repurposed to contain the performance relics of Bob Flanagan and Sheree Rose, including nipple clips, handcuffs, butt plug, slave collar, a ritual knife and other S&M instruments.

About Simone Gad Simone Gad is a Getty Museum Sponsored PST artist included in Lyn Kienholz's Encyclopedia- L.A.Rising/SoCal artists before 1980, among numerous publications/books/articles/reviews/catalogs. She is a self-taught artist whose works include painting collages/pinup drawing collages with animal rescues/fu Dogs and Chinatown Plaza paintings. Gad s Chinatowns' series is about her transition from Belgium to Boyle Heights and falling in love with Asian artifacts/facades/fu Dogs and souvenir shops when she was a child and teenager. Gad is a Belgian-American artist born to holocaust survivors of Poland. About Victoria Reynolds Los Angeles-based artist Victoria Reynolds s sumptuous paintings depict raw flesh such as tritip sirloin, reindeer viscera, brisket, pork bung, and honeycomb tripe. Often set in ornate and carnivalesque rococo- or baroque-style frames, the sensual paintings address customs of representation, Dutch vanitas, kitchen and butcher stall scenes, the Venetian art of painting flesh, divine sacrifice, and society s use and sacrifice of animals. Victoria s work is represented in numerous collections and exhibited internationally. Presently her work is exhibited in Nature Morte: Contemporary Artists Reinvigorate the Still-Life Tradition, Guildhall MOCA London, traveling from Sweden, Norway, Belgium, and Poland; and earlier this year her solo show Médaillons de Corpos (Flesh Medallions) was exhibited at Bert Green Fine Art in Chicago. About Michel Delsol Born in Paris, works and lives in New York. He has a degree in Film Semiotics and Linguistics. Michel's personal portraits of Sheree Rose and Bob Flanagan, Kathy Acker, Dennis Cooper, Rose Wood and Mr. Apology document important 'Culture Changers'.
