However, the way you care for your skin after surgery will play a major role in determining how long you may be able to enjoy those beautiful results. Nourish your skin from the inside out: An important aspect of maintaining great, healthy-looking skin is to eat a balanced diet. Be sure to get your daily servings of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and lean protein. Be sure to stay well hydrated; drink plenty of water! Eliminate over processed foods and added chemicals in your food sources. Get serious about sun protection: Sun exposure is one of the leading causes of facial aging. It accelerates the appearance of lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin which compromises your surgical result. Wear sunscreen every day and avoid deliberate tanning. Total Defense and Repair by SkinMedica provides protection against UVA, UVB and infrared exposure. It is available in SPF 34 (plain or tinted) and SPF 50. Wear a wide brimmed hat and sunglasses when outside. Use the right skin care products: Healthy lifestyle habits like wearing sunscreen and eating a balanced diet are just part of maintaining your surgical results. The second half of the equation is using medical grade skin care products that contain ingredients scientifically proven to provide results; antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, peptides, and retinol.
