UNIFORM AND PERSONAL APPEARANCE GUIDELINES Grooming and uniform guidelines are established so that WCA students will be tasteful, neat, and well groomed. It is the responsibility of the parent to see that students come to school in compliance with set guidelines. Uniforms must be worn properly and neatly, be in good repair, and of correct color and shade. Torn, oversized, or faded garments are not acceptable. Clothing should be marked with the student s name. This is essential for sweaters, sweatshirts, jackets, and PE items. For a list of uniform suppliers, please visit www.wcala.org. *It is impossible to address every uniform question that can/may arise during a school year. The principal is the final authority regarding uniform questions not specifically covered below. PRESCHOOL Although the preschool does not require uniform attire, it is not too early to begin to train preschool children to discern modesty and discretion in choosing apparel appropriate for their age and activities. They will need your assistance and guidance in choosing comfortable play clothes and shoes. Below are a few guidelines in choosing appropriate preschool attire, plus a few items that absolutely will not work. 1. For safety reasons, only post earrings will be allowed, no other jewelry, please. 2. Colored nail polish should not be worn to school. 3. Skirts and shorts should be a modest length when standing and sitting. For preschool play and work please have little girls wear shorts under their skirts for freedom and comfort on the playground. Mini-skirts, bare midriffs, spaghetti straps, and see-through shirts are inappropriate for school attire. 4. Comfortable play clothes should have manageable belts, snaps, zippers and buttons to prevent undue stress for your child and/or teacher during restroom time. If your child cannot manage the buckles or suspenders and shoulder straps during restroom, the garment is inappropriate for school. 5. Tennis shoes with socks provide the best support for safety and for development of large motor skills. Sandals, crocs, and boots are unsafe on the playground and are not allowed. Light-up shoes should not be worn. 6. We are a Christ-centered school and wish to lift up the name of Jesus. The entertainment market has become a great influence on young children, and it has become increasingly more difficult to discern between positive and negative role models. With this in mind, children may not bring lunch boxes, book sacks or wear shirts, tennis shoes, or any other clothing items with cartoon characters on them. Students may not wear clothing items with emblems, pictures, advertisements or writing, in particular across their bottoms. 7. Boys: Hair should be neatly groomed and maintained. It should be kept off the collar, eyebrows and mid-ear. Dyes and extreme haircuts such as: Mohawks, spikes, tails or shaggy styles are inappropriate for our preschool environment. 8. Girls: Hair should be worn neatly combed and out of eyes. Dyed, colored, highlighted and extreme hairstyles are inappropriate for our preschool environment. 9. Be assured if there is a concern, your child's teacher will communicate with you.
