UNIFORM POLICY Progress has been made in improving standards of uniform and the aim is to continue this emphasis. Below is the complete uniform list, please comply with the detailed requirements. There will be a full uniform check on the first day of the Autumn Term, all students are expected to be correctly dressed. There will also be uniform checks throughout the year in order to maintain standards. When wearing the Harrogate Grammar School uniform students are ambassadors for their school and should therefore ensure that behaviour and appearance meets the high standards we expect of each other including to and from school. Trainers or boots must not be worn in the school building The outdoor coat should be plain and dark, or in school colours. It should be in keeping with the school uniform. Denim or leather must not be worn Hoodies are not allowed in school or to and from school. Full uniform should be worn to and from school Uniform should be worn in a manner to present the best image of the school at all times Hair should not be worn as a fashion statement and make up must not be worn Piercings one stud may be worn in each ear. Other piercings are not acceptable. Jewellery one plain ring may be worn. The school bag must be suitable for carrying school text books and exercise books and should not be a designer fashion statement or a drawstring PE bag Students, particularly cyclists, should wear an outdoor garment with a luminous strip in the winter months. Students bringing a bicycle should wear a helmet and are responsible for providing a secure locking device for their bicycle and for placing the bike in the designated shelter provided. Sixth Form dress code Sixth Form Students are required to dress smartly, and our expectations reflect those that employers have of their staff in most business environments. As the most senior students in the school, we insist on high standards of appearance and for students to be easily recognised within, and beyond, our school community. SIXTH FORM GIRLS SIXTH FORM BOYS Business Dress Dark skirt, trousers or dress with a jacket. Dark suit or dark tailored jacket/trousers. Skirts/dresses must be of an appropriate business style and length. Top or blouse which must not be low-cut or reveal midriff. Plain non-patterned jumper or cardigan may be worn, but cannot replace the jacket. Buttoned shirt with collar: long or short sleeved. Top buttons must be fastened and shirt tucked into trousers. Tie, worn at an appropriate length. Plain non-patterned jumper or cardigan may be worn, but cannot replace the jacket. Shoes or boots must be smart in leather or leather-like material. Student ID on Sixth Form Lanyard. Shoes must be smart in leather or leather-like material. They can be slip-ons or laced up shoes. For clarification the following items are not allowed: Hoodies, leather, P.U, chinos or denim including jean-style trousers, see-through linen trousers, leggings, shorts, cut-off trousers, playsuits, skater skirts, skorts, leather, P.U skirts, polo shirts, polo-necked jumpers, designer logos, trainers, casual deck shoes, flip flops and Ugg-style boots. Visible tattoos, lip, nose and tongue piercings. Hair must be of a natural hair colour. One piercing per ear is allowed and no stretchers. Outdoor coats, jackets and scarves should not be worn in the school building. If a student s appearance is not acceptable the student will: 1. Receive a warning. 2. Contact made with home. 3. Given the option to change into spare business dress or to go home to change.
