The top trade show for American & international children s brands 17 TH EDITION REPORT August 5-7, 2018 Metropolitan Pavilion & The Altman Building
PLAYTIME ENCHANTS THE NEW YORK SUMMER! From August 5 to 7, Playtime was back in New York to welcome the leading U.S. children s fashion and lifestyle professionals. Settled in the heart of Manhattan, the show invested the two floors of the Metropolitan Pavilion and the Altman Building for the presentation of the spring-summer 2019 collections. Before going through the detailed attendance data, what will be remembered from this edition is the wind of optimism that blew through the aisles of the show. An enthusiasm shared by both exhibitors and buyers who were able to forge privileged relationships over three days in an inspiring and relaxed environment. Keeping up with its diversification strategy, the show offered a nice balance between the mid- and high-end designers who have made the reputation of Playtime and other commercial brands with a neat aesthetic that already benefit from a wide distribution throughout the United States. The latter attracted many new buyers (48%) who did not hesitate to change their purchasing habits to place orders with brands they had not worked with until then. A positive evolution for the whole show, which proves that the complementarity of the offer is the key to a successful show. Carrying a selection of 186 brands, 53 of which were exhibiting for the first time, the show registered a total of 1993 professional visitors over three days. A new summer record that confirms the leading position Playtime New York has already held on the American scene for several seasons. More precisely, we note an increase in the number of buyers from California and Florida. The proportion of international buyers remains around 6% with several prestigious points of sale (Harvey Nichols Hong Kong, Bella Baby - Saudi Arabia, Kool Kids - Thailand or Oleana Boutique - Kuwait, among others).
The specialized press was also there to share its fashion and business expertise with as many people as possible. Poster Child Magazine created a sensation by shooting one of its upcoming fashion editorials live from the show. As a strong supporter of emerging brands, Pirouette rewarded the most promising fashion and lifestyle brands of the season with its One To Watch Awards. The Spanish brand kisse was awarded in the Fashion category while lunii, the French brand of audio stories won in the Lifestyle category. Finally, Earnshaw s gave the floor to buyers on Tuesday, August 7 with its successful Be the Buyer! panel attended by a record number of exhibitors. kisse lunii
Nova Gaïa New Tribes On the inspiration side, stylist Mariah Walker was invited to present the key silhouettes of the coming season at the three trend areas of the show. We thus discovered a timeless wardrobe inspired by the artisans workwear on the New Tribes space which hosted an installation by the artist Aran Baik; Neo Optimism unveiled comfortable outfits combining soft pastels with joyful messages all surrounded by the Thought Bubbles of the artist Sui Park; finally we entered a flowery and delicate garden on the Nova Gaïa space where floated a mobile made of mica imagined by Christina Watka.
