Hi <<First Name>> We are fresh back from 12 days in the South Island of New Zealand. After a beautiful wedding at spectacular Moke Lake near Queenstown, we hit the road for two lampshade workshops (Arrow Town and Wanaka), some sightseeing and some textile research! We were overwhelmed with the beauty of the countryside, the sense of history, fabulous fresh produce, easy access to native wildlife and the generous makers we met! Right: Yours truly skylarking at the wedding (with Julie sporting her handstitched skirt completed the day before at the Airbnb) and a view from under the Bedouin tent used for the wedding reception at Moke Lake. If you would like the full story on the skirt - check it out on Instagram We now have an idea. an

Fibres and Yarns Slower, meditative, portable Fibres and yarns are such fabulous creative mediums. Usually worked by hand, they offer a slower pace, where you can lose yourself in the process of creating patterns and shapes. We have two fabulous workshops coming up over the next few weeks, that teach the basics of two quite different skills: Basket coiling and Crochet Basket Coiling - From rags to richness We are thrilled to welcome back Ruth Woods from Craft School Oz. A regular at Ministry of Handmade, Ruth is a skilled and patient teacher. In this generous 5 hour session, learn how to recycle a range of textiles into beautiful baskets. We ll be on the treetop deck in the autumn sunshine what a way to spend a lazy Sunday!!

> Basket Coiling Sunday 15 April Introduction to crochet Lauren Weier is back with her basic crochet class. She has the wonderful knack of turning crochet novices into crochet addicts!! If you are ready for a new creative outlet in your world, this could be the workshop for you!

> Learn to Crochet Wednesday 18 April On the road - New Zealand While we were away we were fortunate to spend time with two very talented weavers. Rod McLean In a shed in Rod and Sue McLean s back garden, sits one of the few, if not the only, complete remaining sets of the Hattersley Domestic Weaving Systems. This system, developed in the late 1800s, uses manpower and the best of 19th century loom engineering to weave long lengths of fabric relatively quickly and

efficiently. Rod is a craftsman weaver and Sue is a recognised textile artist. They are committed to sustainable and ethical practices, the preservation of traditional textile skills and the guardianship of their looms. In addition they only use quality NZ grown and processed yarn.

Rod is passionate about his work and was so generous with his time, answering the myriad of questions we had. This really was a case of serendipity... an unplanned and fortuitous discovery!!! I felt honoured and blessed to have met a master craftsman! Lindy Chinnery Another South Island Weaver in New Zealand!! A quick stop for lunch in Lawrence on our way back to Queenstown...and we met Lindy Chinnery in her studio in the main street! Lindy is an award-winning weaver and has been honing her craft for 25 years. Again, we felt very blessed to just stumble across such a skilled artisan.

On the road - Roma and Dalby, QLD We are heading to Roma and Dalby at the end of April for some workshops: the No Sew Benni (which has sold out already) and our popular lampshade workshops. Thank you to all the people who have suggested and encouraged us to come!

> Lampshades in Roma on Saturday 28 April > Lampshades in Dalby on Sunday 29 April Contemporary Shaggy Quilt It s back again.this workshop is always very popular and this year we have given it a bit of twist to incorporate recycled fabric if you wish! Learn the basics of creating a strip quilt with shaggy chenille-like detailing and then get creative! Customise your own quilts, bed runners, cushion covers, baby floor mats, etc

With a real contemporary edge, this shaggy quilt will add a relaxed vibe, wherever you put it! > Contemporary Shaggy Quilt on Saturday 5 May Mother and Daughter Lampshade Workshop Celebrating Mothers Day. Bring your mum (or your daughter) for a fun workshop together! Share some special times and a glass of bubbly while you learn how to make a professional quality lampshade each using industry standard materials.
