Important Registration Details Event date: April 22nd Theme: The Road to Fashion Online General Entry due March 31st (ONLINE ONLY) Fee: $5 per entry (max of $10) Fees must be submitted to the Cooperative Extension Office by project leader or member by April 8th or you cannot participate in the event. Eligibility: Three categories are only for members in Clothing & Textiles (aka sewing) projects, but two are open to any 4-H members (Purchased & Knit Challenge). Members may enter up to 2 modeling categories plus the County Quilting challenge but may only compete in one category at State Fashion Revue. The garments and accessories for each modeling outfit must be distinctly different. An item in one outfit may not also be used as part of another outfit. Quilting challenge entries will be judged while on display. If two (2) modeling categories are won by the same individual, the child will determine which category the winner may compete in at State Fashion Revue. The alternate will be eligible for state in the other category. Members entering in two modeling categories will be judged in each outfit separately which may require a few quick outfit changes. Please be aware of this ahead of time and plan accordingly. The same outfit may not be entered into multiple categories. Fashion Revue check-in will begin at 2:00pm and Primary Members do not have to arrive until 4pm. Instructions for Members: Complete the General and Supplemental Entry Forms. Forms are online at: http://ucanr.edu/2017countyfashionrevue. A completed entry form includes: Traditional: completed supplemental entry form Consumer Science - Purchased $40 limit: attach photocopies of your receipts for all items being modeled and completed supplemental entry form Upcycled: include a before and after photographs of the garment, photographs of original garment (front & back), and completed supplemental Entry Form Stripe/Print/Plaid Challenge: completed supplemental entry form Knit Challenge: completed supplemental entry form Photos of your completed garment are not mandatory, but are required if you are eligible to participate in State Fashion Revue. Commentary: Your commentary will be read as you walk across the stage during the evening fashion show. It is what you want to tell others about your project and describes what you are modeling. Members must write their own commentary the 4-H Office and Fashion Revue Committee are not responsible for writing your commentary. If you enter two categories, you must submit two separate commentaries. 2
Instructions for Members (con t): Give your entry fee ($5/per entry: 1 entry $5 or 2+ entries $10) to your clothing leader or the Cooperative Extension 4-H Office. Enter online and submit the above materials to your clothing project leader or the office by Friday, March 31st. Members requiring special arrangements due to disability, please explain on registration form or contact the 4-H Office. Instructions for Project Leaders: Distribute the enclosed materials to your project members. Make sure all participating members complete their online entry by March 31st. Collect receipts, completed supplemental forms and/or pictures (according to what category entered). Place in the envelope provided and submit to the 4-H office by April 7th. Check all Commentaries. Fashion Revue the Event JUDGING CONTEST Fashion Revue committee will have a sewing themed judging contest for Fashion Revue participants. Participation in this judging contest can be recorded in a member s Record Book. DINNER FUNDRAISER Dinner will be available at the event for participants, family and attendees All proceeds will go to benefit the Fashion Revue Committee. SILENT AUCTION The Silent Auction starts 2:30pm at the Fashion Revue and will Dinner Menu Tri Tip Beans Salad Roll Price $10 Adult $ 5 Youth Guests (non-participants) continue until the Fashion Show begins. Each club with a clothing project is asked to donate a nice gift for the Silent Auction. Your club can donate more than one item for the Silent Auction. You can consider asking for donations from local stores. IRONING CHALLENGE CONTEST FREE (contest for ages 9+) Wrinkles, folds and creases - This year at Fashion Revue we will have an Ironing Challenge. The member who does the best job ironing will win their own Iron. Ironing is a fairly straightforward process, although it can be somewhat tricky if you've never done it before. This challenge is to help members learn about ironing techniques. You iron shirts, pants, dresses, and skirts slightly different along with how you position your clothes on the board. Divisions and Judging AGE DIVISIONS (as of 12/31/2015) Primary members: Age 5-8 Note: Primary Members will not be judged nor are they eligible to participate at State Fashion Revue in May. Junior: Age 9-10 Intermediate: Age 11-13 Senior: Age 14-18 (A member is eligible to participate as a senior until Dec 31st of the calendar year in which they turn 19.) JUDGING Participants are divided by county, age division, and category for judging. (With the exception of the County Quilting Challenge) Judging is on overall appearance and expression of personal style while wearing their outfits. Participants will briefly tell the judges what they made or purchased and what they learned. They should be prepared to answer questions from the judges. The commentary is not read during judging. (Commentary is read during the fashion show.) The judges will review the entry forms and accompanying information. The judges will review the 2x2 sample of fabric submitted with entry. There will not be on the hanger judging. Judging is closed to the public. AWARDS All entries will be judged by the Danish System. Each participant will receive a certificate and a participation pin. Additional awards may be given in each age division, in each category, including donated gifts. Awards are based on merit, as determined by the judges. If there is only one entry in a category, it does not automatically warrant an award. ATTENTION: (Applies to all modeling categories) The outfit must be produced and modeled by the individual member. To be in alignment with State Fashion Revue: All outfits must meet the 4-H Dress Guidelines, found at http://4h.ucanr.edu/files/210170.pdf. All shorts, skirts, dresses, etc. must be at least fingertip length. Each entry a member enters should be distinctly different. 4
County Winners from the following 5 categories are eligible to compete at State Fashion Review. 1. TRADITIONAL: Showcase the member s sewing skills and ability to coordinate an outfit. The entry must be sewn by the member as part of his/her 4-H Clothing and Textiles project and worn by the member The outfit must contain at least one constructed garment. Participants are encouraged to construct additional garments to complete the outfit. 2x2 sample of each fabric 2. CONSUMER SCIENCE PURCHASED: The $40.00 limit is for the entire outfit which includes any items visible and accessories including shoes, but not sales tax. Receipts from the current 4-H year are required for any item that is visible. Gifts, prior purchases, and items without receipts are not eligible for this category. Receipts from yard sales, etc. may be hand written. There is no 4-H project requirement, which means any 4-H member may enter this category. 3. UPCYCLED: Take one or more existing garments and turn them into a new, different, and wearable garment. Outfit must include an accessory handmade by the participant. Additional fabrics, trim and supplies may be used. The upcycled garment must be sewn by the member as part of his/her 4-H Clothing & Textiles project. Additional upcycled and/or sewn garments are encouraged to complete the outfit. A before photograph showing the original garment(s) is required. This is not an alteration such as a large dress altered to fit a smaller person that still retains the same lines. The emphasis is on the transition of the garment. Must include a 2x2 sample of each fabric. 4. STRIPE/PRINT/PLAID CHALLENGE: Choose any 2 of the 3 fabric designs (stripe, print, and plaid) and incorporate them into one or more sewn garments. If one garment is sewn, it must include 2 of the 3 choices. If multiple garments are sewn, the 2 choices can be in one garment, more than one garment, or one garment each. The addition of other fabric is allowed (ex: solids, other prints/stripes/plaids, etc.). Polka dots are a print. Consider construction techniques for stripes and plaids, the placement of prints, harmonious combination of fabrics and current style trends. Include handmade or purchased garments and items to complete the outfit. The entry must be created by the member as part of the 4-H Clothing & Textiles project (NEW for 2017). Must include 2x2 sample of each fabric. 5
Con t 5. KNIT CHALLENGE: Construct a wearable garment out of knit fabric. Any fabric content is allowed (cotton, polyester, wool, rayon, blend, etc.) and any type of knit (single knit, double knit, rib knit). This is not a hand-knit garment; it is a garment that is sewn, serged, or otherwise constructed using a knit fabric. Include handmade or purchased garments and items to complete the outfit. Open to all 4-H members with no project requirement. (NEW for 2017) This category is specific to Yuba-Sutter Counties and will not qualify for the State Fashion Revue. QUILTING CHALLENGE Create a quilt wall hanging, small quilt, large quilt or any other quilted item. All quilts must have been made by the 4-H Member between the dates of May 1, 2016, and the time of exhibit. All work must be done by the exhibitor(s). Adults may assist in the design and construction through demonstration only. Exceptions: Quilts entered in the pieced category may be machine quilted by an adult. Members may participate in the creation of one(1) quilt to be judged as an individual. They will be allowed an additional entry as a group entry. Individual and groups can create a small or large quilt to be donated to a charity of their choice. Quilts can be entered into one of the following categories: Wall Hanging (anything under 48 x65 ) Pieced Wall Hanging (anything under 48 x65 ) Pieced and Hand Quilted Small Quilt (minimum size 40 x40 or larger) Pieced Small Quilt (minimum size 40 40 or larger) Pieced and Hand Quilted Large Quilt (approx. 72 or larger) Pieced Large Quilt (approx. 72 or larger) Pieced and Hand Quilted Any other Quilted Item: handbag, table runner, tic tac toe board, placemat, pillowcase, etc. Judging and Awards: Quilts will be judged while on display. They should be turned in to the 4-H Office on Friday, April 21st. Quality Awards: Blue, Red and White will be given to entries based on scoring criteria. One Best of Category Award will be presented to one quilt in each category. Judging will be held Bi-County ; there will be one Bi-County winner. Members may enter more than one quilt as long as each one is in a different category. Please complete the online survey if plan on trying out. To be a commentator, you must be in Junior High or above.
