November Newsletter 2016 Wolseley Dance Club wolseleydanceclub@hotmail.com http://wolseleydanceclub.wordpress.com Upcoming Events 2017Competitions: Dear Dance Families, Wolseley Dance Club is busy getting ready for our upcoming Competition Season! Routines are being choreographed, costumes have been chosen, and shoe and hair requirements are set! This newsletter will provide you with the much needed information that you will require to ensure your dancer is ready for competition! Competition/Recital Requirements: MAKE-UP - Make-up should include foundation/powder to even out skin tones, natural brown shades of eye shadow, black eyeliner, black mascara, blush, and a deep red lipstick (please avoid any red lipsticks with a pink or orange tinge to them they should be a deep, true red). - Make-up is an important asset that allows the dancers to refrain from looking pale and washed out on stage under the lighting. It also allows for attention to be brought to their facial expressions on stage which improves the look of their performance as well! - Please do not share make-up as it is an easy way to pass germs and infections. HAIR REMINDERS High curly ponytail with no part Please make sure bangs and hair are completely pulled back into the ponytail with no bumps, flyaways, or stray hairs by using hair spray or hair gel. Curls should not be loose and should not easily fall out since the dancers will be moving their heads a lot during their routines. High straight back bun with no part Please make sure bangs and hair are completely pulled back into the ponytail with no part, bumps, flyaways, or stray hairs by using hair spray or hair gel. The bun should be held in securely and tightly with a net and bobby/bun pins to avoid the bun coming undone since the dancers will be moving their heads a lot during their routines. Straight hair pulled into a half ponytail Please make sure bangs are completely pulled back into the ponytail with no bumps, flyaways, or stray hairs by using hair spray or hair gel. The half pony should start at ear level and angle up creating a high ponytail at the top of the head. The remainder of the hair is to be left out of the ponytail. All hair that is not slick back and is hanging down should be straightened with a straightening iron in order to ensure all waves and curls are out of your hair. High straight ponytail with no part Please make sure bangs and hair are completely pulled back into the ponytail with no bumps, flyaways, or stray hairs by using hair spray or hair gel. Hair should be straightened with a straightening iron in order to ensure all waves and curls are out of your hair. Low messy bun with part over left eye Please make sure bangs and hair are completely pulled back from the left part into the ponytail with no part, bumps, flyaways, or stray hairs by using hair spray or hair gel. The bun should be on the right side of the head, and held in securely and tightly with bobby pins, with pieces of the hair sticking out. A net should not be used which will give the bun a messy look. Boys: Spiked bangs - Bangs should be slightly spiked up in the front (slightly lifted). EXTRA REMINDERS - Absolutely NO underwear is to be worn underneath costumes. - No jewelry (aside from assigned costume jewelry) is to be warn. - Bangs are always to be pulled off of the face. - No nail polish is to be worn. - Tights must be snag-free and have no holes or marks on them. - It is always a good idea to bring extra hair supplies, safety pins, small sewing kits, extra shoelaces, nail polish remover, static guard, et cetera just in case! - Bras should be beige and have adjustable clear or beige straps in order to change them according to the neckline of your costume. - Please steam any costumes that need it in order to get rid of any wrinkles and creases that may have been created through packaging. DO NOT IRON your costumes as this could severely damage them! - It is a good idea to not wear your costume to and from the competition because the costumes can get dirty or damaged in your travels. It would be a good idea to instead get dressed at the competition. Please treat the costumes carefully as well since there is no way to replace them! - Please be aware of any accessories the come with costumes (ex. hair pieces). Keep track of these pieces because they are also irreplaceable but are more easily lost or forgotten. - Please remind dancers that they are at competitions to dance. Laughing, talking, et cetera while on stage is completely unacceptable. They can do this while waiting to dance and after they dance, but not during their routines! - Please make sure dancers are practicing their routines at home for memory. Competitions are quickly approaching so dancers need to be comfortable with their routines (this includes solos/duos). - If you have any questions or need clarification on anything, please feel free to ask! DANCE TIGHTS Dance tights are not provided with your costume, you must buy them separately from a dance store. It is essential that your dancer wears the correct tights, both because the dance tights are much more durable and it is obvious when cheaper tights are worn in the stage lighting. Dance tights can be purchased at Dancers Den on Albert Street. You can expect to spend about $20 a pair. It's always a good idea to have a back up pair for competitions in case you get a snag!! Proper attire for dance classes: All hair, including bangs, must be tied back from face. Dancers should be wearing either dance leotards or yoga type clothing. Shorts or capris are fine. Sweat pants are only acceptable for HipHop classes. Absolutely no jeans or jeggings! Shoes: Combo classes: black tap shoes, pink ballet slippers, black ballet for boys.
