press release brussels, june 24th 2013 scabal spring-summer summer 2014 trends Spring/Summer 2014 sees Scabal offering a huge selection of high-quality cloths, many of them new qualities developed in its own mill in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. Alongside its perennial and proven favourites, Scabal has updated and recoloured patterns to suit its contemporary customers across the world. As always, technical innovations are included in the latest bunches. suitings Continuing the popular and successful trends of recent season, the emphasis for new suitings is on more discreet and elegant designs. Self stripes, shadow stripes and semi-plains remain very important. For an ideal cloth for a classic business suit, look no further than the LONDONER collection of Super 140 s woven from Australian extra fine merino wool. At 250g, the 50 patterns in this important bunch will be suitable for many months of wear in temperate climates. These fine-looking qualities are available in a wide spectrum of colours from silver grey to dark blues and on to bright blues.
False plains, hairline stripes, pinpoints, pick-and-pick and neat herringbones are among the weave effects seen in the HEROIC collection. Including 71 patterns, this is another significant bunch of versatile Super 100 s 280g wool cloths. Bright blue and royal blue add punchy notes to the generally classical selection of shades of grey and navy. The modern businessman who spends a lot of time travelling will appreciate the contemporary appearance of the SHUTTLE range. Comprising just 12 designs, this is a new bunch based on prunelle or twill-like weaves. In a 120 s quality weighting 250g, the selection is dominated by shadow stripes, shadow checks and false plains. Indigo blue is offered alongside the dark greys and medium blues that will be excellent for elegant but fresh-looking suits. Displaying Scabal s design and technical ability, the COSMOPOLITAN bunch combines wool, silk and mohair in a 52/36/12 blend that is ideal for summertime. The nine Super 150 s qualities have the appearance of super-shiny mohair cloths, but they present a surprisingly soft and refined handle. They will be tailored into some very refined business suits in a colour range running from beige or silver grey to black or light blue. The mid blue is particularly fashionable. jacketings For the new Spring/Summer season, lighterweight jacketings are more important than ever. Whether in 100% qualities or in clever and innovative blends, cool merino wool is combined with linen, silk and cotton to create fashionable casual cloths that are oh-so-comfortable to wear. ST TROPEZ is always a popular casual jacketings bunch from Scabal and the latest collection brings together 25 patterns of various qualities and blends. More than half are 100% linen and there are a few regimental blazer stripes in 100% cotton. Summer blends include 45/30/25 wool/silk/linen and 60% linen 40% wool blends. There is a large range of plain colours that will look good under sunny skies, such as light blue, mint green and indigo. Also important are striking but elegant checks, such as a grey windowpane over an orange ground or an orange overcheck above a grey ground.
There is an equally fresh palette across the 20 patterns of the YOUNG GENERATION bunch. Pure 280g linens in strong shades like white, orange, rust red and navy blue sit next to 75/25 cotton/linen blends at the same weight. Wool/silk/linen mixtures in 50/30/20 blends are notably lighter at 250g, while pure cottons come in at 300g. In keeping with the mood of the season, weave effects predominate hopsack, thick-and-thin weaves, and diagonal constructions are all included in this fresh and stylish selection. Bringing a more obviously luxurious approach to summer is NOBILITY, which blends 55% silk with 45% fine wool in 240g cloths. The silk brings a pronounced sheen to the surface, while construction ranges from fancy checks and windowpanes to pick-and-picks and plains. As well as the expected light grey, the bunch offers a rainbow of seasonal colours, including light blue, green, pink and royal blue. Created in England, the FRESH bunch is well named as it benefits from an advanced finishing process that makes the 100% wool cloth actually feel cooler when worn. In 22 patterns, many being traditional checks coloured up in zingy shades like bright turquoise and red, this 230g quality will look splendid under a hot summer sun. The free-spirited 1970s provide the inspiration for COLIBRI, the fanciest jacketing collection from Scabal for Spring-Summer 14. Named after the French word for hummingbird, the bunch comprises just 12 designs of 100% wool fresco cloths, weighing in at 250g. Boucle-effect yarns are used in a very decorative collection that is bold enough to use a palette including lilac, lime green, purple and turquoise, as well as light grey, medium blue and navy blue.
trouserings Great jacketings deserve great trouser fabrics and an amazing 41 colours are gathered together in the CAPRI collection. In a plain weave, these 260g 100% woolen cloths are ideal for summer blazers as well as trousers. The colour selection is vast, starting with neutrals like beige, but the confident man of style will be attracted by the bright fluorescent lime green, orange, light blue and lilac. New 2014 accessories Using, as always, the best yarns and fabrics in elegant colours, WEEKEND is a fully coordinated collection that includes softly tailored jackets, chinos, jeans, cotton shirts, fine knitwear and a trenchcoat. Many of the garments have been washed and dyed to give a distinctly different look from the main Scabal collection. The chinos sport a button fly with contrast-coloured buttons. Trouser colours range from a pale pink to a deep burgundy to a zesty orange. White trousers a summer standard in hot climates are included, as are cleanly-washed denim jeans. The silhouette is slim but comfortable. Cotton trousers often have a touch of elastane for stretch. There is a simple strength too about Scabal s polo shirt, which comes in different colours. It is presented in cotton piqué, as a V-neck model or with buttons. The union jack with the Scabal lion is embroidered on the sleeve. The classic cotton shirts are slim-fitted with soft collars. Ties, mostly in tricot, pochettes, belts, socks and scarves are available from Scabal s accessory collection. In case of summer showers, a short lightweight trench in cotton-nylon is helpful.
