Decorative The flawless look is certainly in vogue at the moment. Claims such as pixilate your skin and flawless complexion are more and more prevalent in the high definition world we now live in. We all want to look our best and using decorative cosmetics certainly helps us to do this by hiding blemishes and minor skin imperfections (see Problematic Skin leaflet), dark circles, puffy eyes (see Eye Care leaflet) and by enhancing key features such as the eyes (long, dark lashes/ eyebrow pencils), cheek bones and lips. There is a growing overlap between decorative cosmetics and the skin care sector as seen by the growth of BB, CC creams and so on. More and more foundations are offering anti-wrinkle effects, lipsticks that claim to plump, mascaras to lengthen and build lashes and under eye concealers to reduce puffiness and dark circles. Plus with the ever growing trend of transfer resistant and waterproof make-up, make-up removers really need to work to avoid those panda eyes. Dermofeel viscolid (INCI: Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil) is a natural oil thickener supplied in a powder format with a melting point of approximately 60 o C. It is used to convert liquid oils into soft, creamy textures. The resulting product is an elegant soft oil paste that is easily applied on the skin without smearing or dripping. It can be used in jars or with a pump dispenser. There is no influence on the sensorial profile of the oils which makes it ideal for massage oils. Dermofeel viscolid has been tested with various oils and is compatible with plant oils as well as ester oils, mineral oil and silicones. The liquid phase with the sensorial profile of the oil mixture is used. Recommended use level: 0.5 7% Dermosoft GMCY (INCI: Glyceryl Caprylate). Derived from Coconut and Palm oil, GMCY is a basic component for alternative preservation. It has a positive effect on pigment dispersion making it ideal for suncare (TiO 2 ) and BB/CC creams. A broad spectrum antimicrobial blend for perfume- and fragrance-free product concepts. Due to the wetting ability of MCA Variante it effectively speeds up pigment dispersion times (lowers manufacturing costs), intensifies colour (opportunity to reduce expensive pigments) and increases the homogenicity of pigments in the oil phase. Recommended use level: 3-5% INOXAN 583 (INCI: Glyceryl Oleate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Tocopherol, Citric Acid) is an exclusive mix of Ascorbyl Palmitate and dl-alpha-tocopherol in Glyceryl Oleate to be used readily as a vitamin antioxidant in all oil-based cosmetic products. MDI Complex (INCI: Glycosaminoglycans) is a marine Glycosaminoglycan that inhibits the Matrix Metalloproteinase (MMP) enzymes that degrade and destroy the skin s Collagen network. MDI Complex can be used to neutralise excessive MMP activity, leading to a better enzyme equilibrium needed for a natural healthy skin appearance. This equilibrium allows greater skin elasticity and increased resistance to external irritants. MDI Complex reduces the appearance of dark circles, spider veins and Rosacea. Because of its affinity with the receptor MC1-R, Melitane can be used as a natural photoprotector and as an inflammation modulator. Melitane stimulates pigmentation and Melanin (natural protection factor) under UV-inducing condition. Melitane represents an ideal complement to the skin s own level of natural Melanin and strengthens the skin s defence. In addition, Melitane makes the skin less sensitive to UV-induced erythema. When used in hair applications, Melitane helps reduce the greying of the hair bulb. MultiSal Menthol is specifically designed for anhydrous applications that require a higher temperature in processing, for instance soap bars or solid AP sticks. Menthol evaporates at typical processing temperatures (around 80 C).The consequences of this are twofold: 1. Menthol vapor is irritating to eyes and lungs, thus filling the production environment with it is unsafe; 2. Menthol is lost, either reducing the concentration in the final product, or making it necessary to use more to make it the right concentration.
