Parents Week Feedback Comments It has been an action-packed couple of weeks at Heathfield since the previous Newsletter, but a lot of fun! We have hosted the Christmas Fayre, been visited by Zack the Road Safety Zebra, commemorated the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War in our own Remembrance service, enjoyed parents week, built models of Tudor houses and then burnt them down and lots more! The next Newsletter will see us well into preparations for Christmas, and heading towards the end of 2018. Whatever the New Year brings, we can be sure that the pupils of Heathfield will be meeting it all with enthusiasm just have a look inside this Newsletter to get an idea of all the different things they get up to over a normal week!

Over the past two weeks, we have had a focus upon Road Safety, organised by Brake, a charity with a focus upon delivering information about road safety. Zak the Zebra visited to help deliver the message, and was even to be found welcoming pupils into School last Monday, standing in for me! Thanks Zak! There is a very serious message, of course, about keeping safe on the roads especially now that the nights are drawing in and the mornings are getting darker too.

Zack returned to give out certificates for some excellent road-safety posters created by Heathfield children.

Road Safety poster winners with Dom in the Road Safety Assembly this week and a number of possible sightings of Zack the Zebra!

Thanks to everyone who has contributed towards the Road safety Week. Today, Years 1 and 2 ran their bake sale, with the profits going towards the purchase of hi-vis vests for our children exactly what Zack the Zebra and Dom have promoted!

This year the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One fell on Remembrance Sunday, and on the Friday before the pupils at Heathfield learnt a little bit more about the World Wars, the local men who went to fight in those wars, and the story behind the wearing of poppies. The two minute silence was observed by our pupils in exactly the right spirit of commemoration and respect.

Please be aware that After School Care finishes at 1745. Children uncollected after this time may be taken to Rishworth. Parents of children uncollected after this time may be charged at a rate of 1.00 per minute. If you are likely to be late in fetching children, please let us know. Uniform please ensure that all items of uniform are regulation including bags, please! Please do not bring children into School through the staff car park.. It is easier and safer to walk along the pavement at the side of the parents car park. The staff car park is busy, and it is also where delivery vans are likely to pull in, at all times of the day. There will be a box outside of the School office in which any donations towards SmartMove can be placed as ever, we need non-perishable items, toiletries, cleaning materials and similar anything is gratefully received, and anything finds a use!

Music lesson underway...and the guitar ensemble in the assembly last week.

In Sit n Stitch this half term, the young stitchers are putting together some amazing hand-crafted decorations! I don t want to give too much away, as there are some family gifts included!

Last week, the photographers were thinking about taking abstract photographs, and how to make amazing pictures out of ordinary objects!

Last week, Year 5 took a trip as part of their Earth in Space Science course to the radio telescope facility at Jodrell Bank. It was a fascinating day out, and the children learnt a lot including finding out what they would look like in infra-red!

Year 6 have been learning how to represent features from the natural world in paintings and pictures, capturing clouds, sunlight, water and other natural features. I think you will agree that there are some fantastic pictures created as a result they are on display on the upper corridor in the Mill building.

Our youngest Mathletics Gold winner with her certificate in assembly last week!

On the 20 th November, Year 5 went in our minibus, to the Huddersfield Odeon Cinema to watch the memorable movie Zoo. There were lots of other schools there as we watched this emotional, but educational film. This story is centred around an elephant called Buster and how he was treated throughout the war. With some help and encouragement Tom and his friends manage to prevent the shooting of Buster, which was the fate of the other dangerous mammals in the zoo. In conclusion, we really enjoyed this trip, but all of us hope in today s world, animals will be treated better, because each species should be treated well. It would be brilliant if the future Year 5 get the opportunity to have this amazing experience, and we hope they will enjoy this inspirational trip as much as we did. Hannah Ananyaa Seth Sophie

STOP PRESS We also raised nearly 200 for the Royal British Legion! The NSPCC have very kindly visited the School over this term on a number of occasions, linking with work carried out in PSHCE sessions, and in assemblies, to counter all forms of child abuse, including bullying. It is never acceptable, and all Heathfield children need to know that bullying can come in many forms. But just have a look at the thank you from the NSPCC HF families have raised an astounding 927.50 for this amazing charity and have eaten a few delicious buns along the way!

It is always a pleasure to welcome parents and other family members into School. During our parents weeks, there is an opportunity for families to join their children in different classes and to get some idea of the Heathfield experience first hand. The aim is to show off what we do, of course, and we want to show the School at its best but we also want to show what everyday lessons are like. Could be a conundrum fortunately, our everyday is, as the ISI report told us, excellent! Here are some of the comments made on the feedback sheets. An excellent session... What a lovely lesson! Lovely Art lesson. Great to watch a teacher teaching a subject they are passionate about!
