PAGE 3 OF 13 INTRODUCTION City Power personnel routinely carry out work in close proximity to electrical equipment. Whilst every possible safety precaution is followed, the employer is obliged to provide overalls which will give personnel the maximum possible degree of safety whilst, simultaneously, being comfortable enough not to restrict movement or cause discomfort. 1 SCOPE This specification covers City Power s requirements for the foot protection in accordance with the requirements SANS 20345 2 NORMATIVE REFERENCES The following documents contain provisions that, through reference in the text, constitute requirements of this specification. At the time of publication, the editions indicated were valid. All standards and specifications are subject to revision, and parties to agreements based on this specification are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the documents listed below; SANS 724 Personal protective equipment and protective clothing against the thermal hazards of an electric arc flash. SANS 492- Protective and Safety Gum boots (Part 4), All made from Rubber DSP 34- Safety Shoes Electrical Testing Specification. SANS 741- Industrial boots (including Safety Boots) with Direct-vulcanized Soles and Heels SANS 1114- Industrial Boots (including Safety Boots) with Stuck-on Pre-moulded or Direct-injection - Moulded Soles and Heels SANS 1167- Industrial Shoes (including safety shoes) with Stuck-on Pre-moulded or Direct-injection - Moulded Soles and Heels SANS 1168- Industrial Shoes (including Safety Shoes) with Direct Vulcanised Soles and Heels 3 DEFINITIONS AND ABBREVIATIONS PPE HRC Personal Protective Equipment Hazard Risk Category 4 REQUIREMENTS 4.1 Safety boots/shoes 4.1.1 General requirements a) The boots/shoes must be black b) The Material shall be full grain upper leather c) The design shall be in accordance with SANS 20345 and certified 4.1.2 Test Safety shoes and safety boots shall be tested as per ASTM F2412 and ISO 20344. 4.1.3 Packaging and labelling a) The safety shoes and boots shall be packed in a box. b) The box shall be adequately labeled and show the shoe or boot size c)
PAGE 4 OF 13 4.2 Gumboots 4.2.1 General requirements a) Gumboots shall be made of solid rubber and shall be black in colour with a protective toe cap. b) The gumboot shall be a knee length c) Gumboots shall comply with SANS 20345. 4.2.2 Test Gumboots shall comply with. ISO 20344 4.2.3 Packaging and labelling a) The gumboots shall be packed in a box. b) The box shall be adequately labeled and show the gumboot size 4 QUALITY MANAGEMENT A quality management plan shall be set up in order to assure the proper quality management of the foot protection during design, development, production, installation and servicing phases. Guidance on the requirements for a quality management plan may be found in the SANS ISO 9001. The details shall be subject to agreement between City Power and the Supplier. 5 ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT An environmental management plan shall be set up in order to assure the proper environmental management of the foot protection throughout its entire life cycle (i.e. during design, development, production, installation, operation and maintenance, decommissioning and disposal phases). Guidance on the requirements for an environmental management system may be found in SANS ISO 14001 standards. The details shall be subject to agreement between City Power and the Supplier. This is to ensure that the asset created conforms to environmental standards and City Power SHEQ Policy. 6 HEALTH AND SAFETY A health and safety plan shall be set up in order to ensure proper management of the foot protection and compliance of the queuing system during installation, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning phases. Guidance on the requirements of a health and safety plan may be found in OHSAS 18001 standards. This is to ensure that the asset conforms to standard operating procedures and City Power SHERQ Policy.
