COMPETITION GUIDEBOOK

A LETTER FROM THE ABA COMPETITION TEAM Dear Competitors; Around the world we are currently seeing an increased interest in live competitions with events attracting more participants and more spectators. In Canada, since we have had fewer ABA trade shows over the last few years, we are reformulating our competition concepts with the view to make competitions more accessible and more competitive at the same time. In Spring 2019 we are focusing on Revel in Beauty in Toronto on April 14th & 15th, where we will have an unprecedented number of competitions that are open to all Canadians from coast to coast. We are also taking this opportunity to revamp our competition portfolio; updating some of the rules so they are more in line with current professional practices and trends while also creating new competitions in the Makeup and Nails categories. We are very proud to introduce the CANADIAN CUP a first in competitions for the ABA. The Candian Cup is only open to past ABA competition winners (at least 3 wins). The Canadian Cup is a 3 round competition with a winner of each round and one overall winner that will bring home the new Canadian Cup. Rounds 1 and 2 pre-done and presented live; one on mannequin head and one on live model; while round 3 is a live competition on mannequin head that will push everyone s creative limits. NEW in 2019: Level Categorization: We have received many comments and queries from both active and hopeful competitors about how to decide which competition to compete in and how to get started in competitions. With that in mind, the competition team has decided to give a category level to all competitions as a guideline for the caliber of participants expected in that group. Open: means all ages and all ability levels (students / apprentices / new talent / new competitor/ experienced professionals and seasoned competitors. Level A: is proposed for either students, apprentices, new talents or experienced professionals just getting started in competitions. Level AA: is proposed for experienced competitors confident in their skills and ready to take it to the next level. Level AAA: is for the Canadian Cup only; competitors must have been in at least 3 ABA competitions in the past. Photo Ready Finish: In the days of social media where every event is shared live by both the artists and the model (client). Make-up and nails competitions; the judges will evaluate the finished product both as seen live and then as seen on screen after a professional photo would be taken. If you have any questions regarding competitions we invite you to contact us either by email at communication@abacanada.com, via our Facebook or Instagram Page @ABACanada or call us at 1.800.268.6644. To register for a competition please go to www.abacanada.com/competitions which will direct you to a Shopify page where you can pay for your registration online. Note that if you are an active ABA member you benefit from a $50 discount on the competition registration fees, if not, the non-member price is $150 - this includes a one-year membership and the competition. If you register for more than one competition, you need only to pay the non-member price once, and then register to all other competition at the member price). Note also that a competition registration grants you free access to Revel in Beauty for you and your model (a $80 value). Looking forward to seeing all the passionate competitors at Revel in Beauty 2019! Alain Audet ABA Executive Director Kelly Kalmbach Master Judge Director Megan Gustafson Competitions Director
