The exhibit "The feminine seams of Spanish fashion (1930-2018)", is an idea from EFE Agency and the Asociación de Creadores de Moda de España (ACME), produced jointly with the National Museum of Decorative Arts. The exhibit combines photojournalism, fashion and woman through eighty photographs, taken over nine decades by EFE s photographers, the number one Spanish news agency, and fourth in the world, that dialogue with garments and jewellery signed by twentyseven Spanish fashion creators. EFE s photographic collections (twelve million photographs in the historical archive and eight million in digital record) from glass plates, negatives or slides, show the fashion of Spain of each period captured instantly and without artifice, according to the tempo and the photojournalistic vision, through models, artists or personalities from different fields, who dressed the feminine revolution This exhibition reflects the evolution of Spanish women from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day, through photographs, pieces of clothing and accessories that have been sculpting the feminine figure with personality over time, through the talent of Spanish designers.
Fashion in Spanish, moda, derives from the Latin modus, mode or measure, governed by the principles of authenticity, uniqueness, creativity and power throughout history, and it is the guiding thread of this photographic exhibit on Spanish fashion, showcasing under the shrewd photojournalistic gaze, that the dress of a woman reflects decision, security and evolution, far from reductionist ideas that see fashion as a superficial manifestation. Under EFE Agency s flash spotlight, the evolution of fashion in Spain unravels to reveal its seams: the creators, the artisans, the raw material or the models that have made industry and that, with the imprint of their knowledge, dress and clothe women with their own freedom. The images of the exhibition, captured without the montage or the preparation required by fashion photography, show women without the numerous filters with which they are usually registered by specialized magazines. Even the models, in the procession of the catwalk are not objects of exhibition but active subjects in full exercise of their professional activity.
In this exhibit, journalistic photographs are in dialogue with garments by contemporary Spanish designers. Thus, snapshots taken in the exclusive halls of haute couture houses in the fifties, are confronted with images that reflect the progress of communication in fashion, when contemporary designs such as those by Manuel Piña, Jesús del Pozo, Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada, Sybilla, David Delfín and Adolfo Domínguez arose to relevant runways and became the new shop windows where the pluralism of fashion design in Spain was showcased. Pieces such as shawls, in Spanish mantones, which covered the bodies of the most daring, clothed artists or exalted anonymous women, have become skirts or dresses, while masteries such as lace and embroidery have accompanied women from the recollection of liturgy to the festivity of red carpets. The fashion of Spain, caught instantly, in each era, according to the tempo and the photojournalistic gaze, shows over almost nine decades of evolution that it harbours personality and trade, and that it dresses the feminine revolution.
