Date: February 18, 2016 To: From: Visual Artists Alamance Arts Re: Willow Walk, 2016 Alamance Arts, together with the City of Burlington Recreation and Parks Department, invite you to participate in the eighth biennial Willow Walk, an outdoor sculpture exhibition and sale. Willow Walk will take place on Saturday, June 4 and Sunday, June 5 at Burlington s beautiful Willowbrook Park. The park is located in a lovely residential section of older homes in Burlington, N.C., one block off Church Street, Burlington s primary north-south thoroughfare. The landscape of Willowbrook Park is both grassy meadow and tree-covered slopes with a meandering stream running through it. We hope to increase public awareness and appreciation of sculpture by inviting patrons and visitors to discover and explore the arts in a setting, which is natural, comfortable and fun. Through this venue, we are able to introduce your work to new markets and new clients. We encourage you to attend, so that you are available to discuss your artwork, show your portfolio, or simply network with other artist friends. During the history of this event, we have sold a number of large-scale sculptural pieces, as well as smaller, garden-size works. Through the Alamance Arts Public Art Initiative, there will be award monies available for the purchase of art for public placement. In addition, corporate and city officials with public art budgets have often made important Willow Walk purchases. Sales in 2014 exceeded $82,000. Monies have also been allocated for artist travel stipends to be awarded on a first-come-first-serve basis. We invite artists living 75 miles or more from the Willowbrook Park location to apply for a travel stipend. Alamance Arts and the City of Burlington will handle all advertising for the event and the site selection and sale of your artwork. The City of Burlington Police Department will handle security concerns. The exhibition contract and consignment agreement will be executed between Alamance Arts and the artists. Alamance Arts commission on sales is 30%. There are no rental spaces available for individual craft booths or commercial vendors at Willow Walk. Willow Walk will represent artists whose work is well respected for originality, creativity, and quality of workmanship and design. Other activities designed to bring people together for a day in the park are planned for the weekend including walking tours, all-day music in the gazebo, and a cocktail event Saturday evening.
You are not required to be present at Willow Walk, as Alamance Arts is responsible for the installation of the exhibit on site and for all sales transactions. If you should have a conflict for the weekend of Willow Walk, but would still like to participate, you may bring your work to Alamance Arts prior to Thursday, June 2nd. Artists with very large and heavy sculptures will, of course, need to bring their work directly to the park on Friday, June 3rd. Please return the enclosed card or email indicating your intention to participate and your completed packet by Friday, April 15 th. If you have recommendations of other fine artists, we would be interested in receiving your input. Please feel free to contact Jenna Rice (jrice@alamancearts.org) at 336-226-4495 with questions or suggestions. Thank You, Jenna Rice Alamance Arts 213 S. Main Street, Graham, NC 27253
