Installation views of Mariko Mori s Cycloid Nobutada Omote Photography. SCAI THE BATHHOUSE. Tokyo, Japan. Cycloid is the general term used to indicate the path traced by a point on the rim of a circle as the circle rolls along a defined line. Covered with a radiant pearlescent coating, and brimming with an energy that allows one to sense the eternal cycle, her aluminum sculpture consists of complex, intricate shapes that intertwine and reach outwards. The exhibition also includes photo-paintings based on drawings Mori made while viewing the ocean in Okinawa, creating manifestations of nature s invisible energy and the world of subatomic particles.
ESPACE LOUIS VUITTON TOKYO. The mysterious stars of Mori s Infinite Renew, are a series of otherworldly, yet oddly comforting spirals based on the Möbius strip that inhabit the gallery like mythic creatures. Meant to invoke questions about the shape and make up of our universe, the space takes on the appearance of a sci-fi set, with each spiral representing the infiniteness of existence.
Mariko Mori, Ring: One with Nature The latest eco-minded project from the Japanese artist Mariko Mori and her Faou Foundation is a permanent work titled Ring: One with Nature a luminous 6m-high ring to be installed at the peak of a Brazilian waterfall. The work, due to be unveiled on 3 August, just three days ahead of the start of the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, celebrates the unity between every being and nature, and is emblematic of the unity of all nations and ethnicities, Mori says.
