Your Tutor I am a successful Harrogate based Milliner designing and making bespoke headwear for clients as commissions and also hiring out over 250 individually made pieces from my studio overlooking the famous Harrogate Stray on West Park. I can tutor in all aspects of millinery, working with; felt, straw, sinamay, veiling, fabric covered shapes, dyeing of materials, handmade flowers and bead work. I can also run courses on a range of different aspects of hat making; blocking, creation of fascinators, headpieces, cocktail hats, bridal, perchers, pill boxes, wedding and race hats. The Studio has over 250 designs from which you can gleam inspiration and use as examples to study different techniques. Please get in touch for specific course requirements.

Millinery Taster (1/2 day) Sat 17 th January 2015 Tues 27 th January 2015 This course is a fantastic opportunity for those who are new to millinery and want to acquire a basic understanding. You will be introduced to millinery materials and shown examples of different technique from our collection. You will also have the chance to try on different hat shapes and be guided on the styles which best suit you. You will make basic sinamay trimmings and learn how to attach them to a head fixing. By the end of the workshop you will have created a headpiece and acquired the skills to make more. Suitable for beginners. are 65 for half a day and 10 for materials.
Hand Blocked Felt Cocktail Percher (2 days) Wed 14 th & Fri 15 th January Make a Fabric Flower (1/2 day) Sat 25 th January 2015 Fri 27 th February 2015 This is the perfect course for those who want to take their skills to the next level. You will learn how to block a small felt hat using the traditional method of hand blocking with pins and steam. You will then learn how to line the inside with a petersham edging. You can choose from the skills learn t on the course to trim your percher. The techniques covered include; feathers, felt flowers, bias strips, felt leaves, quills, felt or fabric bows, and veiling. Finally your design will be finished with elastic, band or comb and be ready to wear... Suitable for beginners, improvers and advanced 175 for the two days and 20 for materials This course is for individuals who would like to learn the process of silk and fabric flower making. You will learn how to stiffen different fabrics, create petal templates and be introduced to all the techniques used for making different types of flower petals. You will also be shown different stamen and centres for your silk or fabric flowers. Choose from 100 s of colours of our stock room silk and fabric to then create a flower of your own. Re-invent, Re-new, Re-trim Upcycle your Winter Hat (1 day) Wed 4 th February 2015 Bring along a shaped winter hat, which could be felt, leather, tweed or fabric and upcycle it into something really special. You will learn how to make suitable winter trims from felt and tweed in order to add loops, flowers, feathers or bows. Work with a choice of felt, leather, feathers or petersham to make your design special and go away with the skills to re-invent more hats. Suitable for improvers through to advanced Explore Winter Trims (1 day) Tues 10 th February 2015 A wonderful course for those looking for winter trim techniques and inspiration. You will learn how to make flowers, leaves, bows and other trims from fur felt, tweed, velvet and veiling plus explore using pheasant feathers to trim. Hand Blocked Silk Cocktail Percher (2 days) Wed 21 st and Thurs 22 nd January 2014 This is the perfect course for those who want to expand their knowledge of blocking. You will learn how to block using buckram which will then be covered with ice wool and silk. Trims will be taught dependent on previous experience and the requirements of the group but they can included, handmade flowers, silk loops, bows and many other techniques. You will learn how to line the inside with a petersham edging and create a couture lining for the inside of your hat. Suitable for improvers through to advanced 175 for the two days and 20 for materials Fabulous Feathers (1 day) Tues 20 th January 2015 Fri 6 th March 2015 During the day you will learn several ways of manipulating feathers such as cutting, curling, twisting and forming flowers. An introduction to different types of feathers will provide the basis for your design including, goose, hackle, turkey, ostrich, peacock amongst others. This is the perfect course if you have always wanted to make your own feather headpiece or trim a shape with feathers. You will have the option to add other textures to your design including, Swarovski crystals and complimentary trims. Finally, your design will be finished with elastic, band or comb and be ready to wear... Explore Spring/Summer Trims (2 days) Wed 11 th & Thurs 12 th February 2015 A wonderful course for those looking for summer trim techniques and inspiration. This is a very comprehensive course where you will learn how to make silk and fabric flowers, fabric leaves, silk and sinamay bows, hand rolled soft sinamay trims, flower sprays, feather flowers, feather arrangements, petersham flowers and trims, lace trims, veiling and how to incorporate beading into your design. You will go away with sample trims ready to adorn your hats and headpieces and the knowledge to make more.
