MEMORIAL DAY PROMO HIGHLIGHTS MEMORIAL DAY SPECIALS Kmart s Day sale included practical items for parties and barbeques, such as tiki torches, citronella candles and sprinklers. Similar to what we saw with its Mother s Day sale, Sears had a number of home goods and appliances on sale for Day, including mattresses, refrigerators, ovens, and washers and dryers. Sears also featured summer products, including swimwear, shorts, sandals and luggage. DOORBUSTER JCPenney ran sales in many of the same categories as Sears did: apparel for men, women and children, and furniture and bedding. 6 HOURS ONLY Bloomingdale s couched its promotion in terms of exclusivity, one of its frequent sales techniques. PROMO HIGHLIGHTS UNFORGETTABLE SUMMER As in the last few weeks, many stores again featured products for summer activities, but this week, they bumped up their game. Walmart had sales on bathing suits, grills, aboveground pools, bikes and deck furniture. Target highlighted a large array of different summer items: patriotic quilts, patio furniture, camping goods, grills, sunscreen and bug spray. Kohl s had a special two-day sale, but didn t refer to it as a Day sale, even though it used a red, white and blue color scheme. The promos included golf apparel for men, sportswear for misses, sandals and summer decor products. Family Dollar had all the essential items for a barbeque on a reasonable budget, with promos on tabletop grills, coolers, camping chairs, hamburger patties, chips and soda. POOL S OPEN In what appears to be a trend, Target had sales this week on unique technology items, particularly those with spring and summer appeal. PROMO HIGHLIGHTS SWEET TASTE OF SUMMER Walmart had sales on a number of food items that represent The Taste of Summer. It also provided a few recipes and suggestions for summer dishes, as well as recipes featuring red, white and blue food, so people could show their patriotism on Day and July 4th. SEASONAL SALE CVS Caremark put an interesting twist on seasonal sales this week, when it ran a special on towels customers could create with their personal pictures, an easy add-on since customers can already print pictures at CVS.
